Bro. Rule of thumb should be dollar to dollar about 20 percent less. Ur current 11k now best scenario is should be about 9k. 6k in Sg not a lot particularly if u are already servicing a house loan now in Malaysia.
6k then u need 1k for rent. Then ur Malaysia home about 700 sgd? Assuming 500k house. Left 4.3, minus expenses maybe 1.5k. U 11k salary and single u cannot save 4.5k a month?

I did my calculations also coz I was hoping for an offer similar like urs. After calculate the little extra is not worth leaving my family and kid.
*
Bro. The rule of thumb does not work as we move up the salary band.

Fresh grad SG and fresh grad MY both range similar, between 3-4K (in respective currency)
Once you reach higher level, the Malaysian salary slowly catches to SG level (after conversion)
Typical 5k SGD job, Malaysia pays RM8k (exec/snr exec)
Typical 8k SGD job, Malaysia pays RM14k (lead)
Typical 10k+ SGD job, Malaysia pays RM20k+ (manager/head)

ps. I’m talking about MNC companies, chinaman company in sg and my both have out of whack compensations

Not to mention Singapore effective tax is wayyy lower (especially compared to high income bracket Malaysian jobs)

Cabin crew relies heavily on travel allowance, bulk of their income can come from non-basic salary if they fly many long haul routes in a particular month, pretty sure the figure above included those

For the Bachelor Computer Science specialize in Software Engineering fresh graduate who plans to work in Singapore, what is the range of their salary? >2.4ksgd?

Instead of the salary, actually what I more concern is the technical test.... saw many different technical test and those questions are hard, probably screw up...
*
For starting job salary in SG (IT), it depends heavily on which uni you graduate from

Mind sharing which uni you’re from?
The expected range differs greatly

So should I change to Software engineer?  My tester friend told me there's higher challenging and pressure for Software engineer compared to tester. I believed higher pressure and challenging = earn more money.  tongue.gif
*
Actually there is future for tester.
But you need to upskill yourself to do “test automation”, not just create test cases and do manual testing etc.
API calls, integration test etc all can be automated, and companies (even Google/Facebook) needs developers to code those test automations

It can be lucrative career IF you learn the right skill sets

I would strongly suggest you to get a Bachelors Degree if you intend to continue this line, as engineer will have much greater future and salary potential

Maybe consider a part time degree

yea this sums it up quite well. i'm not a local grad but it doesn't really matter..
i guess if you're progressing well in the actuarial department and also passing exams, i would say it is common to earn more than 200k/annum including bonuses before you are 30.. but beyond that then it's pretty much the same world as everyone else.. the gaps won't be that big as you go up the ranks
*
Agree. Actuarial starts high but as you move up the ranks, the compensation is pretty much equal.

A HoD/VP/C level for operations, sales, IT, HR etc will be very similar to Actuarial.

hi there shifus

I want to ask about IT career since  want to work at Singapore

is it easier to get a job and visa as:

1. mobile developer - android
2. Back end engineer - java
3. java engineer - server side
4. front end engineer
5. SAP related work

Which one is easier? or you have any other suggestions?
Should I get job experience first in KL?
I would like to know the challenges we encounter as well as the salary growth
*
Pick one that you are most interested in.

In general, all IT roles are quite in demand.
Except for SAP, that is slowly dying

All Taiko can give some advice on my job career. I'm 37 and staying in KL now. I received offer from Intel and signed the offer letter dy, going to report work soon. At the same time i received offer from Mimos malaysia. Their offer base salary is higher than Intel but Mimos is contract base given 1 year for new employee.
Now I'm in the dilemma choosing which one to go, but of course i need to report myself to Intel first while thinking.
Let me break down a bit on these two company.

Intel
Salary: RM11500
contractual bonus: 1.5 month
bonus: performance and quaterly
medical coverage: RM8k (include family)
EPF: 14%

Mimos:
salary: RM13k
bonus: 1 - 2 months (Not sure HR got tipu or not)
EPF: 12%
Contract basis: 1 year.

The dilemma because I got family and kids plus my property is in KL also. Any advise on this Mimos company?
*
Definitely, recommend choosing intel.

Permanent role
large MNC, good for CV
Stable with consistent bonus

it does not matter these days whether it is permanent or contract position. if the company is not doing well, they will still retrench you regardless but of course contract positions will be the first to go.

mimos offers higher pay and you dont have to be seperated from your family. what I would suggest you do, is to report to work in intel first while waiting for the offer from mimos. you may also stall them for a month. that will buy you sometime to decide and let you have a flavour of the environment in intel.
*
I would disagree, I think having a solid MNC role goes a long way in boosting the career.

If the poster ever consider to leave MY, like to work in SG, Aus, Or TW etc. Having Mimos in the CV brings little to no value, whereas Intel certainly will help

I’m always an advocate for long term goals instead of short term gain. Anyway, it’s up the poster to decide.
Just my 2 cents smile.gif

Quick QS, wonder if you know about the salary market in SG? I got an offer but the interviewer were asking for my expected package. I'm not really sure if I should just ask for the same figure as what I'm getting now or should I raise my expectation. One thing to take note is, my professional qualification (Huawei & Juniper certified in networking) but it wasnt their favor one. So this part makes me wonder about my asking price.
*
Quoting your current salary dollar to dollar is not right, especially if you are higher up in rank. A 15k MYR a month role in MY, won’t be paying 15k SGD in SG, let’s be realistic, only fresh grad or lower level job maybe possible.

The best way is to quote “market rate”.
That is for your level of experience and role type, what is the range of market rate in SG

You search like Glassdoor or PayScale website to find out

Hey pal! Thanks for the feedback!

In fact I've search through glassdoor and payscale before I come to ask.

I found I'm actually like 20% underpaid from my current position (work exp + certification) in kch swk (place of less IT company, have to suck it up in order to get a living), but the figure itself (currency aside) is what the average in SG market. laugh.gif Which making me a dilemma whether to just to tell the HR dollar for dollar or I put slight higher for negotiation.

I see, then I guess in your case it’s fine, give it a shot then smile.gif

I figured I'm being underpaid for a while now. Thanks for confirming  smile.gif  Staying to get a bit more experience for my resume before moving. What do you guys reckon the average salary of an iOS dev (w/ 2y+ experience) in Malaysia is?
*
Would suggest you try for 6k (to get market rate), but if your future employer is not able to offer that, I think you can also accept min 5k.

It’s a bit tricky for you because, most employers will look at your present salary then offer a % of increment, so in your case the chances of getting 6 might be quite low unless you are very strong in your skill sets and negotiation.

Having said that, I would say 5 is the minimum. But I would advise you to make a switch asap if your present employer can’t offer more (you won’t be able to ask for much more from your next employer even if you stay an extra year in your current place, because most will offer based on your existing salary)

Hey pal! Instead of giving the dollar to dollar compares, I got another offer again.

Company originated in SG but they wanted to hire an infra engineer for their branch in Taiwan, and they are offering me quite an attractive package. Work location is at Taipei, with accommodation provided and monthly travel (Go back Msia) allowance. Probation is 3-6months depends on work performance, and 1 month pro-rated bonus upon confirmation. Pay wise will be in NTD but rate is convert from SGD.

Very attractive package to me, but what I'm worried is culture shock.
*
Hey! This is really great 👍🏻

I would suggest to just grab this opportunity, it is well compensated, especially since you are earning SGD rate in TW, even though TW is more expensive than MY, it is for sure cheaper than SG, not to mention your accommodation is covered!

As the above poster has suggested, just check on AL count. Otherwise, I think this would be a great step for your career and CV, especially when you are transferred back or redeploy to new markets, the company will want to retain you as you have knowledge and experience on offsite operations already.
