Well that's not based on forumer's tale, but rather is what we witness and experiencing all these while. Our salary can never keep up with inflation and every year is getting harder and tougher to live with your stagnant or minimal increment salary.

I do not think you will get more than 10% increment in your annual increment unless a promotion, but you could request a minimal of 15% increment when you hop to another company.

For my case, I had 3% increment for 2017 and 2018, is not even 10% in total. Plus politics and unhealthy segregation of work task in MNC, I decided to move on to another industry instead.
*
Agree. Had gotten 6%, 10% and 7% increment throughout 3 years in my previous company. After jump ship, at least achieved what I wanted. And good luck to you bro. You deserved better. rclxms.gif

The heck fresh graduate 2 years in OnG already earning rm25k. Are u sure ur bf telling the truth. Or ur bf working outside of Msia. If ur bf posting outside Msia then rm25k do sounds logic.
*
Might be true. My cousin work in Exxon mobile as engineer earning around 30k which including allowance upon his graduate from university. Maybe OnG pay well back in the years.

Heard from his parent. After graduate from master he sent to oversea for 1-2 training program. After back to Malaysia, his starting package around that including allowance. 🤔

I understand the increment when jumping ship, it makes yourself more competitive in the market by bringing in experience and knowledge from the previous company.

What if you jump to another industry or a completely different role?
Would a pay cut be more likely as you need to restart from scratch?
*
Should be have some pay cut if jump to different industry or another role such as from software engineer to business analyst.Just my cents.

1. They are unable to find suitable candidate after months of trying.
2. The JD should be the same i guess.
3. This is the dilemma, they are asking my expected increment. Since i just left, how much is too much? Does 30-40 seems reasonable?
*
30% is reasonable with your current salary. And make sure you still able to grow in the company in term of skill set and career path. rclxms.gif

I have been avoiding this thread for many years. I posted twice and I am ashamed to say that my salary is still stagnant. I am very ashamed of myself and the salary I made. I need some input so i could get out of this salary bracket.

I have been working for 7 years starting as a normal Admin to E-commerce Sales cum Admin for the last 5 years. I dont consider myself knowledge in every aspect of what an E-Commerce employee should have. My skillset is more of mixed here and there. I Worked in a medium sized Chinaman company (previous) and startup company (current) so we need to do a lot of things including Cleaning every week like mop the floor, clean the toilet, etc 😫

I am so lost and demotivated. I live in Ipoh with my family. It is not that I dont want to work in KL/SG, it is just that my parents are in their early 70 now and I am not young anymore. It is not an excuse but my heart is not there. I was once away from home for a week in KL and my father was in hospital. I was so worried that I kept calling my mum to check on him.

I am looking forward to attend workshops and trainings to upgrade myself but I dont know where to start 😔

Thnx for reading my long rant. My english is weak, pardon if it feels funny to you.

Using a throwaway account as I'm a lurker in /k and my username could be a giveaway for such a small industry  wink.gif

Job Title : Sell-side equity analyst
Job Description : Provide equity research services and investment recommendations to buy-side analysts and fund managers
Age : <30 yrs old
Years spent in industry : >5 yrs
Industry : Finance
Employment Level : Irrelevant
Tenure : Permanent
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Degree, CFA
Location : A local broker in KL
Average Working Hours Per Day (incl lunch hours): Varies from 30-80 hrs a week, but need to clock in early in the morning at 7+ am

Monetary Payout
Basic salary & bonus : Around RM300k per annum

Remarks
- Team structure is relatively flattish and your value is entirely dependent on your own franchise a.k.a. recognition from the clients and how much they value your input and ideas, also the intensity of the services provided
- The revenue pie is definitely shrinking as clients are gradually cutting the brokerage rates to reduce trading cost and also due to the onset of algo trading and more DMA-based trading. Therefore, the stockbroking career isn't as lucrative as what it was years ago. The current mundane market also does not help
- Since research reports are more or less viewed as being commoditized due to the sheer amount of analysts covering the same set of companies, the challenge is always about how to provide value-added insights to the industry
- The best perk is that I can dictate my own entire work and pace, hence the flexibility in when and where I do my work. This could also backfire as there are no concrete deadlines on our work

Any insider news? biggrin.gif
Anyway, 300k per annum are around the salary of senior manager in big corporate. Awesome.

So I'm like ghost employee now.

Maybe you can remind your managers. Sometimes, they are too busy and might forgot your 3 months confirmation accidentally. hmm.gif

Would suggest you try for 6k (to get market rate), but if your future employer is not able to offer that, I think you can also accept min 5k.

It’s a bit tricky for you because, most employers will look at your present salary then offer a % of increment, so in your case the chances of getting 6 might be quite low unless you are very strong in your skill sets and negotiation.

Having said that, I would say 5 is the minimum. But I would advise you to make a switch asap if your present employer can’t offer more (you won’t be able to ask for much more from your next employer even if you stay an extra year in your current place, because most will offer based on your existing salary)
*
Yeah, James are right. Some company even stated HR policy maximum 20% for example, but i feel this is good as we no need to apply leave for interview a company which you won't accept due to not able to meet your expected salary. In the end, it still based on your negotiation skill with your skill set present to your future employer to enlightening them on why you deserve the pay you requested, maybe underpaid in previous company etc.. Just my cent. Good luck to you. laugh.gif
