QUOTE(cckkpr @ May 7 2014, 09:11 AM)
Relative fees are locked in from the first year. New students will pay more for each new year.
*
then you are lucky....i understand new offers now state that fees are not locked, and MAY be increased yearly based on inflation.....the key word is 'may', and i do know cases where they actually did NOT increase, although the offer letter says it 'may'....in that sense, uk unis are more lenient than oz, where there are no more lock fees....and they do increase yearly....

question is, do they tell you what year 3 fees will be, from year 1?....since they do not fix fees until just before the academic year starts, each year....

i believe it was the new east anglia med school that started this...with their integrated programme, where clinical exposure starts from year 1....so they charge full clinical fees from 1st year....

many med schools now do provide some clinical exposure in the first 2 years, so they used this as justification for upping the fees....

wonder how many still charge differential fees, besides leicester and notts?.....

QUOTE(podrunner @ May 8 2014, 03:04 PM)
Limeuu, can F1s apply to a different deanery for F2? A friend's daughter is finishing F1 and apparently wants to go to a different hospital. Friend does not know if within the same deanery or otherwise.
*
normally, the f1 and f2 are a bundle, and the 6 rotations are all pre-fixed.....

but people do move after f1, sometimes they request a different f2 from their bundle, sometimes they apply to a different deanery....can be done, but can be troublesome, and also is disruptive to the deanery, as they have to look for replacement, usually locums.....

it makes no financial sense for full fees paying international students to do an intercalated year....unless it is mandatory, like in oxbridge, ucl and notts.....

the extra 2 points in the fy matching process becomes important if one is eyeing for the afp stream.....

if you are good enough, have the max points from med school centile and sjt, you don't actually need the extra points....

afy is designed for channelling the creme de la creme into academic and research careers....of course you are going to stand a head above everybody else when applying for specialisation....

Re AFY, you would need to have published a paper at least,  in one of the better medical journals.
*
you get points for that, but i am not aware it is a mandatory requirement.....most, if not all of the afy aspirants will have several papers under their belt already, i would think...

there is no difference in the 'cert'....it is how smc looks at medical training...

likewise, monash sunway, numed are not recognised....

Can anyone tell me about fail rate for medicine in IMU?
And what is Student Progress Comittee?

Going to choose uni soon....
*
on average, the cohorts used to shrink down to 70+% by sem 5....for the pms stream anyway....don't know what's the current attrition rate....

QUOTE(podrunner @ May 26 2014, 07:22 AM)
Low fail rate = top pick?

then should considered russia, everybody passes.....

1. the clinical component must be done at the parent campus for recognition...hence imu-pms to uk/oz/nz are recognised, and proven in the number of such doctors currently working in spore...(exceptions being new med schools not in spore's list, as mentioned above, and to include uws in oz)...

2. for some reason, they have specifically excluded canadian and us graduates, and insist the pre-clinical component be done in the parent campus...

3. the msian med school they are referring to are specifically in reference to franchise programmes, ie the former perak med school with um, after sheffield withdrew (um was forced to do so, to save the students already in the programme).....and the current aucms ukm franchise....assuming it survive the aucms financial collapse....(will not be surprise if aucms collapses, that the ukm will be forced to take in the franchise students)...

4. imu local degree is not and have never been recognised.....there is NO confusion here.....

Btw, no such thing as having a 'head' above the rest when applying for specialty training if you are doing AFP.

Only difference is they offer an extra PG cert during foundation years (self funded) and you get to choose a more specific track during for FY years i.e. surgical, acute medicine, medicine, teaching etc.
*
if you are referring to the academic foundation programme in uk, yes, there is a difference....just look at who can qualify for the afp, and the points needed to get in.....it's a different cohort....

while that does not translate into any official advantage when applying for ct/st, the fact that you have extra papers, focused rotations, and very important, good references from well known referees, will subtlety place you at an advantage.....

You either wake up early, spend time on the road, sometimes in jams, or rent in vista commonwealth and wake up 15 min before and walk to lectures...

Nobody can decide for you....

you have to choose your stream at application....

if they are not full, they do give conditional offers for august, subject to you meeting the minimum....which is a lowly bbb....

They have failed to fill all PMS places for Aug intake as of last month....which is very unusual....in recent years many applicants have to delay enrolment by 6 months due to oversubscription....

Not anymore....

Jpa scalling down piln and dropping myr may be factors....

depending on which uni, it can actually work out cheaper direct entry previously, but with the appreciated quid, probably not so anymore....

only liverpool charge an extra premium for imu transfer students, afaik...

no need ukcat/isat....

there is no guarantee of any uni during matching....but put the non smc recognised ones last, and you will probably be okay....

if they want you, they will pester you to pay up the non-refundable 1st sem fees within days....

pms used to be the most popular stream....demanding the "highest" pre-u (actually a lowly aaa)....but again, the shringgit (and jpa not sending students overseas anymore) has caused the pms stream to become underscribed, and a drop in the eligibility cut off....

With the current issue regarding junior doctor contract in the uk, I wouldn't be surprised if more international students from the uk are flooding back to sg/Australia.

Fresh graduates from uk cannot register to work in oz....there is no possibility of doing internship in oz....
