Using Zeiss for just over 2 years.

Minor scratches, but the coating lasts longer.

+frame, cost about 1100.

I'm using Zeiss lenses. Honestly I'm disappointed. I went from Crizal (Essilor) to Zeiss. With Crizal, the coating went off really quick. Some blame it on heat, shampoo, etc. I did the same thing with my previous pair Hoya and it's still good.

Anyway, went with Zeiss (Bought from forumer and I guess you knew who) and after 1 years++, I'm not impressed. It's miles better than Crizal for sure but it scratches like crazy. Maybe the coatings on the scratches went off as well. Not to say I'm being conned or anything, but I think the additional coatings on these lenses are super fragile. You'll probably noticed one side is badly scratched and the other is ok.

My >5 years old Hoya had little scratches but it did have some chips and it turned yellowish. Still miles better than both Crizal and Zeiss.

I'm also reaching third year on my Zeiss photofusion, got from Focus point. My friend and I also faced the same issue of coating scratches, we don't really take care of our glasses that well (drop it on the ground, wash with normal soap) but wipe with microfibre most of the time, and both of us also have coating failure near the nose area (not sure is caused by oily skin or not).

Due for lens changing, still deciding which brand to go for next. Probably ditching photofusion as it gives a greyish tint (and expensive)but very versatile if going in and outdoors a lot.

*I remember there was a eyewear shop owner telling me to shy away from Hoya due to weak coatings about 7-8 years ago, probably things are a lot different now

Hoya probably has less coating back then. I remember that these essilor crizal and Zeiss all promoting about how easy it was to clean and better glare reduction which were true. Hoya has none of those. They are harder to clean which is why we use soap. If you ask me, I would rather had one harder to clean but without the coating weaknesses.

Used crizal previously and now Hoya. totally disappointed with the anti-smudge of Hoya lenses.

It is so easy to get smudges on Hoya lenses than crizal. This is still not the main prob. The main prob is that Hoya lenses once get smudges, it is damn difficult to remove it. I used hand soap to clean, also cannot remove the smudges, only after I sent it to the eye wear shop to clean only I managed to clean it. However, same problem comes back within days.

My previous crizal I can clean any smudges easily without issues.

Not sure about hoya nowadays. They told me I can't find back the hoya lenses that I last did about 9 years ago. I'm just too paranoid about branded lenses now. There's so many coatings nowadays that you have to baby them. Most of them kept saying I'm the one responsible for coating peel off but I always answer them back, why is it only happening to one side of tbe lenses when I used same method to clean both lenses. Then only they silent.

Just given up on my Zeiss lenses and made a new one with A- Look. Took their RM200 photogrey lenses. I rather change my lenses every 1.5-2 years now with a cheap brand rather than hoping my RM400-500 lenses to hold up to 3-4 years.

Yeah, indeed nowadays lenses has many variants of products and with different coatings. Indeed it makes it tougher to care.

actually I am very keen on Zeus driving lenses. A bit regret not to take it up this round.

Actually rm400 to rm500 I feel it is reasonable if it can use for 2 to 3 years.
my new lenses alone costs rm1300.

another reason for coating peel/crack, once there's scratch on the lens, the coating will start to peel from there

I went for Tokai high index 1.76 lens 2 years back, special order and cost 1.2k lens only. Coating is wearing off now badly. After try so many branded lenses - think try all already. Will buy hoya only next

No.. I have seen many already deteriorate after 1.5 years. It's just the cost itself that made some of us hold back for slightly longer.

I did tried contact lenses but it's so uncomfortable after just 2 weeks.

I knew an optometrist who just very frankly said even lense manufacturers need to cari makan nowadays. So many competitors nowadays that they need to keep intro new coatings but the end result is that sometimes the coating couldn't last beyond their expectations.

Otherwise just use those basic multi coated which is just basically a hardness coat. That is what he advised me.

True also. I think no point to have so many coatings. Instead maybe focusing on functions better such as zeiss digital lenses/driving lenses. Those are for functions.

Been wearing glasses since i was a kid. my power is 700+ both sides. My experience is that malaysia prices for lenses are really expensive. if you go to China get a try to make a pair there its muchh cheaper. Also the trend now is big round frames. Big frames means the lens will be heavier (more area needed). and if your power is high like mine, i need minimum 1.67 thickness multi focal lens so it wont be so heavy and thick. so the cost of the lens will be very expensive like 1k++ with with blue ray etc. for branded lens. i cant imagine the price for 1.73 thickness.
Anyway since it costs alot for hoya, essilor etc i bought my 1.67 lens from china for just rm300+ and have it installed here. been wearing for a few years its not bad. its important to get good frames as well to support the expensive lenses. 100+ frames will break easily.
