And when you will need this laptop? If it is for schooling, try to hold as long as u can, or wait for the back-to-school deal if they have one. U really want to make use of Centrino Pro (codenamed Santa Rosa) as it is faster and last longer (batt life).

Ok if weight is not a problem, storage will be. So look up for more storage and cpu power. U said u wouldnt mind gaming in low or med, which is good. Then u dont need such fancy gpu, in fact it is not good to have such powerful gpu that will have more heat on ur laptop. If ur not using it, so why bother. Get best storage, cpu and ram according to ur budget. john jay is researching for u i believe.

Like i said, go for the fastest cpu u can and ram, i understand the Adobe GoLive along with PhotoShop.. ahh it is still manageable for me even im on single-core. Doing demo or clips for cs, argh it takes like forever to render everything. U can sacrifice ur gpu here, as u r not demanding optimum performance in terms of gaming. Hope this helps.

U could change attitude about the color issue, color shud be above budget or priority. Color shud be like the lowest priority. Worst case, paint-brushed it to black. Done. (ull void ur warranty tho).

Added on June 22, 2007, 2:33 pmoh samsung dont like the gpu? so that suits u then, u dont need gpu power that much.. err i think i have repeated myself here.. or am i missing anything here?

3-5 years? depends on the use and demands.. especially for ur type of activities it might get faster than that say like 2 years max perhaps.. really depends.

Added on June 22, 2007, 2:37 pmGood luck with that. Hope i was being helpful.

AC? i suspected that.. but we wont know until we really try it. Just limit ur hopes to a certain level, that will be my advice. I dont say it wont work, it might works fine or it might not satisfied ur needs. It is safer not to put a really high expectation on that.

Hi.. smile.gif

Is Dell 1520 1.5Ghz with GT8600 or Dell 1420 1.8Ghz with GS8400 better for gaming??

I want 3 years warranty so if i take Dell 1520 n extend the warranty n upgrade the graphic card to GT8600 it will cost me around RM3500.
Then I noticed Dell 1420 also cost me RM3600 only with 3 years warranty already and 1.8Ghz, but just no option to upgrade the graphic card to GT8600. So I have no idea which to take.

And also is GT8600 really hot? Because I always on my computer for long time, I scare it will burned.

Any advices are welcome, thanks.  biggrin.gif

For gaming, of coz 8600GT will perform better. I assume u want it now, bcoz if u can wait, I would say u better wait. 8700GT is already out, and it's an high-end 8xxx series by Nvidia. The only downside is it could be expensive tho. If gaming isn't the main purpose of the laptop (which usually not), it is great to have better proc. Better proc also helps in gaming.

In contrast, graphic card only come in handy if u game. Unless what ur using is 3D-graphic intensive, pretty 8600GT and 8400GT wont do any much difference on u. So if ur thinking light or modest gaming, then go for 8600GT. If ur thinking minimum gaming usage, take the 8400gs or wuteva.

@bladegirl,

i thot u were thinking G2s? owh cmon i need another fren for a 17incher. There are not much of 17incher fans out there. In fact, G2s is in red, i like red. Thats why my nick is der | red (its actually a mirror).

uh look at that G2s, very cool design...

Added on July 6, 2007, 11:19 amOk my bad i dont see the 8700M GT, ill pick toshiba then. I think i have seen one of those at Best Buy, la tapi....

yup i know thats why i said my bad i just noticed that. I actually went to Best Buy like 2 days ago and see one. I've seen their Dual Mode Pad. Kinda weird but innovative. I imagine it will be either so helpful or just annoying as user will kept misclick (accidentally) on it. I suggest u wait till any of those 8700M GT come to Malaysia (dont care any brand Asus Asis Ases Toshiba Toshibu watever). I weren't sure u were a gamer, la tapi....

8700M GT

about G2s, we already discuss somewhere i think about ppl will kill to get a 17 incher's high-end/SLi mobile gpu/gpus in a 15incher. But u cant argue with one's preference, like bladegirl's. He prefers to have 17incher screen to satisfied his gaming needs, if ur logic/reason is really that good in terms of economy, technology, even one's comfortability, then Asus won't even have this 17incher in their mobile lines. There is reason why they are offering em, some gamers just prefer 17incher. I myself i can take a 15incher as i move around quite much, but i have to admit that gaming on 17incher do feel great. Sometime when i switch to my fren's system, it disgust me to play on 15 incher. I feel like im losing something.

Need recommendation upon buying new laptop.
Brand - any but Compaq due to bad experience using 2 Compaq laptops where both end up with harddisk crash. but do share your GOOD Compaq experience as well if u think i'm just unlucky and should change my mind on this issue.

Budget - around RM2500 or lesser. If can installment then better.

Specs - looking at my budget and u'll know it's not a high end laptop coz it is not affordable for me.
Processor : Intel C2D
Ram : 1G at least
Graphic : Capable of mild gaming such as DotA, CS, WOW and etc. I heard GMA950 not bad, izzit?
Harddisk: 80G will do
Rom : DVD Burner
Software : Not needed any software. As long as I can get the notebook and
can format myself to install window then is ok oredi.
Others : Got wireless and must be nice looking :-P
Currently the option i have on my mind is Dell Inspiron 640m that quoted at RM2399 on dell.com.my. It matched all my needs but there is one thing i dont like about it. It looks sux. So, i would like to listen to you people out there to see if got any better suggestions. Thanks first ya. :-P

From the game u listed, u wont need that powerful gpu. I dont know what to recommend, too many choices haha. I like how u come and specifically mention ur need. Not like typical, "i want a gaming laptop/notebook". Ur budget also fits ur needs. Respect. It's hard to find a nice looking laptop (especially gaming-look) in Malaysia. Asus have that criteria but way out ur budget. I suggest get any kind just reskin it.

hey guy, wanna ask for your recommendation for a decent spec notebook. budget wise : not more than 5.5k. purpose, light gaming, more on office productivity, surfing net, movie..pls do not recommend benq s41, cos my brother own it and it sucks big time!!! no taiwan brand anymore based on this experience. what about toshiba brand? btw anyone wanna get the s41 ( one week old ) at 2.5k ? wanna let it go fasssst!

Why do u mean by suck? U might end up frustrated again if any kind of "suck" u dealing with is actually applied to all other brands/computers too.

I will suggest Dell. I've seen a couple of Toshiba, some are ok and get a couple of "editor's award" in magz. Some are not ok and suck big time.

Ur budget is really tight, so that maybe limited ur options. Ur right about 2nd hand, but for a laptop, better to have a new one with warranty bcoz laptop replacement and repair rate are the highest among electronics so think about that..

I dont agree with u about the laptop and desktop. I think laptop is easier to deal with bcoz it comes in one piece so anything it's whether u send it back or get a brand new replacement (assume ram problem or such is under my control.. and prolly this is a lil bit bias as where I am rite now I have a lot of supply for every single hardware on my lappie)

MacBook is fine, but let him know if he has the money to get MacBook Pro. GO for it, its worth it. Mac is always better as u take advantage of BootCamp for multiple OS usage.

As for u, go for Dell. Just bcoz they have better customer services which u will need years after purchasing ur mobile system (laptop is the highest rank for electronics that been sent back for replacement or repair) so buying Dell is like buying laptop with insurans while compaq always discontinued their product which is not good if anything happen to ur system in the future.

For now it will be just 8700M. To answer ur Q, I'll say ask Nvidia bcoz no one here can asnwer that question for sure. We can assume, but we couldn't promise anything.
