well the gax30 is already low end. but i'd say go for gax70, with the stop tail piece. worth every penny and perfect for hardrock and metal entry-level.
a word of advice: "don't get a tremolo bridge for a 1st guitar", especially any strat clone(or double fat strat). you'll get put off on how easy it runs out of tune. find a fixed bridge, preferably with stop tail piece.

^ around rm800 last i checked. gax30 is no longer in production as of late 2006. if u saw one, probably a new old stock. gax30 has pick guard and comes with normal fixed bridge. gax70 has no pick guard(IINM) and comes with stop tail piece, ala les paul.

QUOTE(echobrainproject @ May 1 2007, 02:07 PM) also, go watch live bands play often. yup, this is what keeps me motivated. no need to watch real live band, just live video clip should be enough since you'll get better close-up shot. hmmm....the yamaha is cool. that's a Floyd Rose Original right, not licensed? anyway, as a 1st guitar, i'd recommend against floyd rose. beginners will have a really hard time setting the thing. unless of course, they have a lot of money to burn everytime they change the strings(by sending it to a luthier) or they're willing to learn how to properly setup a floyd.

QUOTE(soulfly @ May 1 2007, 10:07 PM) anyway.... i got my Ibanez GRG150 from bentley last time for about RM668 (or was it 688?). got the classic tremolo bridge (ibanez FAT10).... but i'm not using the tremolo bar at all. tuning is just fine. block it. then you'll have better sustain. that's what i did with my previous grx40.

QUOTE(soulfly @ May 2 2007, 11:30 AM) can u instruct me how to block (what to use, where exactly to put)? i might do this during my next string change. here's the link, pretty easy. can get it done in a few hours. trust me, it's worthed. plus, it's completely reversable. http://www.guitarrepairshop.com/repairtremeloblock.htmlThis post has been edited by zeroglyph: May 2 2007, 12:44 PM
