Hi,

I'm a beginner. I have been playing my acoustic for about 1 year. Now it's time to buy an electric guitar and an amp. My budget is RM 900. BTW I'd like to play rock.

I think I'm gonna buy Ibanez GAX 30 but I'll have less money for the amp. With my budget, is it possible to get a GAX30 and a good amp? I need your opinion.

The GAX is already around RM800, so no... I don't think you can get a decent amp for RM100.......

HOWEVER.... you can try out some of the SX guitars, which maybe is around RM300-500, and that leaves you some scratch to pick up a Roland Microcube.

a microcube(2W model) cost 380 ??

than how much do the CUBE-15 cost ?

btw i suggest ... 2 packages
1st ... grab a 900 Squier Std Strat ... than play till ur finger wore off 1st and learn up all the skill and start collect money for Marshall 50DFX tongue.gif or CUBE-30

2nd ... juz like me grab a SX strat around 400+ ... collect money for Crate GT15 or CUBE-15 ... dun need upgrade anything coz beginner can only differentiate the look ^___^ not the sound and playability.

anyway juz wanna ask LYN member whether a SX is worthy to upgrade with good bridge and Dmz pickups?

p/s : Get Squier from BENTLEY or SX from WooFatt

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not a fan of Strat. I'm looking for a guitar with hambucker (because I want to play rock and metal).

According to blacktrix, Ibanez GAX 30 is out of question. Any other suggestion? Low-end Ibanez maybe?

well the gax30 is already low end. but i'd say go for gax70, with the stop tail piece. worth every penny and perfect for hardrock and metal entry-level.

a word of advice: "don't get a tremolo bridge for a 1st guitar", especially any strat clone(or double fat strat). you'll get put off on how easy it runs out of tune. find a fixed bridge, preferably with stop tail piece.

Thanks for the suggestion/advice. Any idea on how much a gax70 costs? What's the difference between gax30 and gax70?

^ around rm800 last i checked. gax30 is no longer in production as of late 2006. if u saw one, probably a new old stock. gax30 has pick guard and comes with normal fixed bridge. gax70 has no pick guard(IINM) and comes with stop tail piece, ala les paul.

discipline is the key. of course, itll be good to have someone experienced to show u proper techniques, as learning them wrongly will take ages to correct them. its not easy putting away habits, especially when it becomes muscle memory. however, with the internet nowadays, theres so many (in fact, way too many) lessons one can have. usually we're just too lazy to go through them. apart from youtube(videos are a great advantage, as u can see how its done), you can read up on theory too and some sites give very good diagrams and explanation.

split your practice into different sessions. playing songs is not entirely practice. split it up into caterories like scales, techniques, theory, songs, etc.

to keep motivated, listen to as many genres of music as u can. i myself am trying to listen to at least 1 new album a day. im even starting to listen to the radio (im not saying all songs are good, but then i'll get to also learn in terms of mixing/production). also, go watch live bands play often. another way to improve very fast is to play in a band where the rest of the members are better than you. u'll be pressured, and u'll learn things u never noticed from them.

yup, this is what keeps me motivated. no need to watch real live band, just live video clip should be enough since you'll get better close-up shot.

hmmm....the yamaha is cool. that's a Floyd Rose Original right, not licensed? anyway, as a 1st guitar, i'd recommend against floyd rose. beginners will have a really hard time setting the thing. unless of course, they have a lot of money to burn everytime they change the strings(by sending it to a luthier) or they're willing to learn how to properly setup a floyd.
