QUOTE(JohnLai @ Jul 29 2019, 07:47 PM) ? Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around? EU firmware has more bugs fixed and features while TIME/MY/TM firmware is mostly left alone with minimal fix. You are right there. However, by looking at the recent release of patch, although the fixes aren't big as the EU firmware, each firmware gives/offers something to the end user, you gain something by loosing something. I stopped using the model long time ago, so couldn't highlight much issues about it anymore apart from long boot up time and high cpu usage at abnormal rate. Haha.

QUOTE(JuneResources @ Aug 2 2019, 10:42 AM) Stupid the TPlink, suddenly auto reboot several times after few minutes. And the Time setting (at admin router setting) it can't auto obtain, it's caused the date and time all lari.. Any idea how to replace the new router? There is a logo of TM there. Can I direct ask TPlink to do replacement? Thanks a lot. No need to waste time and energy. Just go to your nearest IT retail stores, go to the networking section of the shop and purchase a decent wireless router of your choice. Simple and you got more control over your network gear. I can suggest few IT retail stores namely Sri Komputers, Viewnet and All IT Hypermarket.

QUOTE(JuneResources @ Aug 2 2019, 02:32 PM) I can do that by walk in IT stores, but main concern is the financial issued to purchase new router. Plus the router not so cheap at all, randomly purchase still need at least 100 buck or above.. Unless there is available for router less than 100 buck.. (which is impossible.. ) If the budget is too tight for you, you can have a look on lowyat garage sales (Networking) section or facebook marketplace to opt for second hand routers.

QUOTE(4lt4ir @ Apr 18 2020, 03:52 AM) Can recommend better router in the same or similar price range? Tenda? How about D-Link, would you say they're better than TPLink? I see some D-Link haters around the net, too. I'll look up Mikrotik. Are they compatible with Unifi & HyppTV? AVOID consumer-grade router at all cost. I get myself with an Ubiquiti's EdgeRouter ER-6P and I am going to be an ex-asus user after I receive my ubiquiti unit. This post has been edited by Jjuggler: May 3 2020, 07:31 AM

QUOTE(4lt4ir @ May 3 2020, 01:29 PM) Whoa, that looks like a bit overkill for casual home use, IMHO. Still, thanks for the recommendation. If you are planning to get a home-consumer router, i can recommend asus. Invest on AX router.

QUOTE(bananabread @ May 5 2020, 12:38 AM) What's the biggggg difference? When you're buying a consumer-grade router, you are buying the hardware for short-term, say 3 to 4 years? And most of the time, you can't use their "special" features since it requires data input from your end. When something comes free, then you are their revenue.

QUOTE(bananabread @ May 8 2020, 09:09 PM) I am using default unifi router and just not satisfied with it. You can't get much out of your default router. It is always recommended to invest on a third-party router. Brand varies as well as their features.

QUOTE(steventan85 @ May 13 2020, 10:22 AM) i use TPlink AC1200 for around 1yr....other than slow boot up time , its pretty good compare to Dlink 850L.... restart my TPlink once a month , or sometime on weekly basis ...so far so good.. seldom hang .... 5Ghz wifi can get me 90Mbps on 100Mbps unifi , even at 75% wifi signal ..... The archer c1200 is a good router, no doubt in that, it is just the firmware is so buggy that causes the router to undergo its kernel panic session that causes the router to freeze and reboot. If the hardware is superior and the code of execution is weak, then the hardware has to follow the rules set by the code of execution. From my own personal experience, I've used both DIR850L and C1200. Both performs slightly similar except one with visible antennas and another doesn't. However it is recommended NOT to use any routers given by the ISPs especially with those router specially-coded under the supervision of TM or any other ISPs.

QUOTE(steventan85 @ May 13 2020, 11:12 AM) ' as per highlighted... why ? most of the time i use paid VPN. Owning a vpn service don't ensure that you're safe in the online world my friend. There are a lot of security measures should be taken apart from owning a vpn service. If you're using an ISP router that has poor security in it, then you're a goner. Remember how a few hackers get busted in the recent years? Are you confident your VPN provider able to protect you?

QUOTE(steventan85 @ May 13 2020, 02:37 PM) based on ur experience , how much a non-consumer router cost us ? any recommendation ? If you're using speed below than 500Mbps, Mikrotik would be fine. Above 800Mbps you will be needing a higher end mikrotik router or an ubiquiti. Do note that, you will be needing to understand a few programming-commands required to alter the settings of the router to fit your needs that won't be made publicly available. Usually those who own these type of routers often power users who wish to get more control over their networking gear. Cheapest would be Mikrotik around RM270 and max can go up to RM2k and above. Another best solution is to own a consumer-grade router that gives you over 50% control such as from ASUS with broadcom chipset since it is supported by Asus-Merlin fw. I am not affiliated with ASUS, but so far, they are recommended (ASUS with Broadcom chipset) by me. However I am not keen to use their features that requires data since I am more into a privacy-driven dude, thus lead me to opt for an prosumer-based router that gives me 100% of control towards my router.
