Good build quality and cooling. But CPU outdated, CFL-H is here

MSI GP series has OKish build quality and cooling (especially CPU side). Also poor TN panel on 15 inch models. If you don't mind those then it's an OK buy

If portability isn't a concern, Dell G7 packs the most power. Yes there are cheaper options with better hardware but G7 has the best build quality and cooling compared to those options.

Asus UX331UA (without MX150)

1. Preferred brand : Any
2. Budget : Maybe RM4k-5k (maybe can stretch)
3. Usage : gaming and also for compsci student
4. Screen Size : maybe 15inch ?

is that still the best model you recommend for similar usage if budget stretch to myr 4k ?

I think they all seems nice? haha. xD but if I were to get my hand on it, i'd go for the ASUS TUF FX504G-EE4071T, few bucks higher than the others but I think it's gonna worth it. still contemplating though.

since already decided... then scoop around for the best deal then...

There are other choices too that shares similar pros and cons like HP Envy 13, Asus UX430UA and Xiaomi Mi Air. Also UX331UN. There's also Thinkpad E480/E580 with entry level IPS.

have looked at the envy 13 - price a bit higher given same specs'

asus UX430UA - bigger size (14") dont think it comes with intel 8th gen i5 proc. Edit: found 8th gen i5 models on youtube, but cannot source in lazada/11st. is size the only diffs between this and the 331 ?)

xiaomi mi air - very nice but dont think its available locally

thinkpad E480 14" - screen not fullHD

am i right so far ?

i believe your initial suggestion is still the best - UX331UA (only integrated GC)

2. Budget : Prefer around 6-7k
3. Usage : MS office, excel, fb, youtube, light illustractor/photoshop, occasionally gaming...
4. Screen Size : 15'', must have numberpad

Currently eyeing on MSI GE63VR 8RE. Spec wise are more than enough for my usage. Tried to see is there other option with better pricing before I pull my trigger...

Dell G3 Gaming Laptop

Thanks for the reco, googled and found the Dell to be at RM4k. My max budget is RM3.5k, what would you recommend?

Similar pros and cons: Good IPS panel, good build quality, good battery life, mediocre cooling under load (problem in 13 inch Ultrabooks and UX430), soldered RAM etc. You can check out Notebookcheck reviews to compare.

UX430UA has 8250U model in Malaysia. Try to find. UX430 and UX331 have different designs. Compare with NBC reviews.

Mi Air is available from importers (Lelong got), many ppl buy too. Warranty handled by importer though.

E480 can be configured with 1080p IPS panel

You can get a cheaper price from lowyat and online stores

If you don't mind weaker GPU, MX150 laptops like Acer Aspire 5 (8550U model with IPS and 128GB SSD) should be good enough. Need to upgrade RAM and maybe repaste (if the thermal paste job is bad). i5 model also good (no noticeable performance difference) but has TN panel and no SSD (need to manually upgrade). KBL-R CPU needs tuning though for better performance.

Consider Swift 3 15 too, choose between 8250U+MX150 or 2500U+RX540 (Intel+Nvidia model is slightly better IMO due to efficiency and software related reasons). Has soldered 8GB RAM though which means no future RAM upgrades. Comes with 256GB SSD. Entry level IPS.
