but still a very dumb thing for dell to do la...using heat pads...and they're not very effective at transferring heat

i read a tutorial on how to overcome that...but need to attach ur own piece of copper plate de lur..pretty straightforward...mebe gona do it when i have the time on my hands...finals now

btw...i used gold heat paste...issit okay if i spattered abit around the gpu die?...coz there's like little square thinghys and im afraid the gold paste would short circuit or something...no wonder ppl use silicone..metal based paste are a hell to clean off

hmm called up the warranty services today and inquired about the price if i want to extend my warranty...

the guy said 1 year would be RM650 while 2 year would be RM 1250, everything included though....i asked him why so big diffference from the one in the website he said thats for inspiron models and apparently if u had any problems that require fixing in the past thats gonna add up to the extended price too.

so how?...seems abit pricey now to extend

what do u mean here?
*
i mean...if u had a component replaced before...such as faulty battery or whatever hardware....its gonne add up to the extended warranty price as well...

it;s something like insurance...if a person has a condition..the premium would increase

wow thats some pricey battery...good thing i got a new 9 cell before warranty ended...could last me awhile lols...btw zhinsara, do u remove the battery when ur plugged in for long periods of time?

just ran some benchmarks tests, again crappy results, but for a 12 incher lappy its quite good already i think lol haha

no noticeable temp change from overclock...guess my pimped up thermal system and undervolting really paid off hehe.

these are using 174.31 WHQL drivers

well not bragging but my laptop looks literally like new....i noticed some tiny black dots though, generally in a line below the speakers, hardly noticeable on mine unless u lean in really close, so i suppose those are what you're talking about?...i think the heat from the lcd is causing it.

hmm...if you read the xps1210 manual, it explicitly says that you do not need to remove the battery when ur using it with a wall socket, because it says that there's special circuitry built in the battery to keep it overcharging.

my faulty battery last march was due to me turning on the wall socket switch THEN plugging it in, i definitely saw sparks, and the wall socket not that great either, faulty as well..then my battery can't charge.

not much gaming on this machines either...just the ocassional CSS online when im free...and playing some of my old favourite games.

well, i hope your wrong, other than gettng a new pricey battery might as well sell this off and get a new laptop...and this time ill pick the 3 years CC!

hmm..the 1 year warranty easy to circumvent...just get ur battery replaced within than one year mah...does that reset the 1 year counter? hehe

yupe palmrest is due to use and sweat...i noticed mine a little discoloration after long hours af CSS so i use celotape cover palmrest part, cheap and keeps it look good =)

discontinued last year around July...the one i got was one of the last units already i suppose

well, 6 cell doesnt last very long if u have the nvidia configuration and if you havent tweaked the laptop for performance and undervolting and other stuff. for comparison, my 9 cell can last approximately 5-6 hours purely surfing the web and listening to music on winamp on power saving mode on wireless.

im underclocking but at the same time my GC is over clocked to 560mhz core/550 mem

as for compatibility issues with xp there would be none.

heat issues...well...with stock configuration it can get pretty hot....when i first got it gaming and intense use usually got my cpu and gpu up to near 90C.i suggest opening it up and reseating the heatsink with AS5 and replacing those dumb thermad pads with aluminium or copper.

well...usage time varies with the activities ur doing on ur laptop. just wireless and surfing and listening to music would most definitely last u 3 hours...i got mine for a total of RM 3465, pretty much stock configuration, just add the 9 cell and nvidia.

lol zhinsara, i got almost 3 hours with CS:S as well

mine's great as always, actually in pretty mint condition, just the chrome got tiny nicks here and there on the touchpad...and some micro dots in a line below speakers. Heck im confident it can even pass as new.

performance wise, okay for it's "era"...feel envious see people with new laptop with 9 series gpu and new core 2 *sigh*

it's pretty straightforward and the instructions there are pretty detailed, nothing to worry about, just follow the instructions to the T.

after your first time opening it, the subsequent openings you close eyes also can do. and if you get a chance to open other laptop, especially different brands, you'd be suprised how much more user friendly and simple dell designs can be.

my temps normal usage cpu about 50ish, gpu 60ish, in fan room, cooler doesn't affect much maybe 3-4 degrees...and as for those fancy expensive laptop coolers, i find them to be useless, only the aluminium of the cooler feels cold, but in actual fact the laptop is still hot at bottom and the airflow is too little and too slow to do anything useful, it doesnt even cool through convection due to difference in heat because of the rubber stoppers ur lappy bottom aint touching the aluminium or whatever of the <insert branded expensive laptop cooler with whatever crap something airflow design>.

I am asking about the motherboard xps m1210.

My motherboard is defect because of some missing parts by the cmos battery connection. Can someone help mewith a macro picture of that area?

I am sending a picture .

damn..big problem...couldnt start up..so i called the call centre and they said my video card might be faulty...ahhh...and im outta warranty too..

last time i inquired about extending warranty they quoted me 1k plus.

need some opinion, if the fix costs above 1.2k, should i forget about it and invest in a new laptop?

its annoying how i take care of it properly for the past 1 1/2 year and all, then suddenly out of the blue it fails on me, withought any prior warning or telltale signs, one fine morning just refused to start.
