Porky said you don't always have to go ATG in all your squat sets. You try going ATG on a narrow stance and you risk not squatting again ever.

Oh, you mean ATG squat not meant to be doen with narrow stance? dang.. i didn't know that.. blush.gif i'm such a noob...

ahh thx. will check king's journal sometime.

i'm 19. ahh apart from darklight and musclemass, ive got pizzaboy here guiding me with forms n all.

eh wait, u mentioned 5x5 being a power program? wats a power program, and how many kinds of programs are there?
The clown still went to the gym religiously. but he was on his own made-up routine. Guess it didnt yield much results. so now the clown is gonna try 5x5. LMAO
*
5x5 is more like a strength programme where the main focus of the programme is to be lifting heavier weights as you go.
other programmes like HST (hypertrophy specific training) focuses on getting size. not strength. So in HST, your strength may go up, but not as much as doing 5x5. However, the 5x5 will give size as well as long as you haven't reached your peak strength. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(King83 @ May 8 2007, 11:02 AM)
i can't do dips... any substitute?
or i hafta do those half dips with my legs on another bench?
*
ya, do with leg on the bench, then as you get stronger, you add weight plates on yer lap. and progress up to be able to do normal bw dips. Thats how i did it. Maybe the big guys got diff advice. tongue.gif

alright. i back off. anyway. was watching fit show iwth milos sarcev about ham string exercises. and he mistaken romanian DL with stiff leg DL http://webcast.bodybuilding.com/fitshow/fi....php?episode=33
*
It is stiff leg deadlifts he's doing isn't it? i mean, his knees ain't moving... hmm.gif

i thought romanian deadlifts involved the knee movements as well (just like a conventional deadlift). just that you don't deload the weight. hmm.gif

but thats just me.. i may be wrong tongue.gif

what about side bends
any recommendations on the reps and sets and the intensity
thanx

i read and creatine usually la...used after workout
but like what musclemass said, a matter of preference
*
You can't really spot reduce on fat. best way to tone up is to lose overall bodyfat. in your case, since its genetic that you have love handles, its gonna take more work to reduce the love handles.

losing overall bodyfats leads to the fact on doing cardio and more on filling up ur body with protein right?

Added on May 14, 2007, 10:12 amoh yeah
i intend to post up a workout journal
but later when i really have the time to put things down

b4 that, im looking to build up my upper body first before i do my love handles...
is that okay? cuz i think if i have leaner and stronger shoulders and chest, they cover up the look first...haha
and then the arms as well
but i also doubt such plan is a good plan...
i intend to do a whole body workout day per day

the f***ed up thing is, i only have thursday to sunday to workout
what do u guys think?
maybe u guys cud make up certain workout plan for me...and i do the math on the food intake
cuz im dead bored with the plan the instructors made for me (which later on they left me at my own devices...which is good)
haha
*
Losing overall bodyfat means to have a caloric deficit. with cardio and more protein doesn't necesarily mean losing fat..
btw, in case you don't know, caloric deficit means using more calories than you consume. you need a deficit of at least 500 cals.
and about building upper body first, yuo can do anything you want, its your body. just don't go too unproportionate and have a big upper body and broomstick legs. ppl will laugh at that... sweat.gif

like King said, its either grow, OR lose fat. MOST of the time you can't have both. but while getting noob gains, you might be able to do both for a while.
so you can decide first, which one to do... put on weight (muscles) or lose fat.
i tried to do both... but didn't work.. wasted 8 months of training doing that.

maybe you can try a body part split programme like MAX-OT. but you split the body parts into 4 consecutive days. read up bout that programe in one of the pinned threads by darklight. while you're at it, read up bout diets too. smile.gif

oh
thanx dude
i think the max-ot is really a powerful tool
i mean i told the gay buffed up dude that i tot its better to have minimal reps with heavy weights
he said no need...just try those that cud keep u up til 10
hahaha
my karate friend had been using max-ot all this while when i told him this evening...darn
but he's short
hahaha
*
Good to see you found something to your liking. one thing you need to be aware of is that when one thing works for one person, doesn't necessarily works for another. so what the gay dude is doing may or may not work for you. Only one way to find out... TRY IT!!! when you get your hang on this, check out your results. Normally it'll take bout 12 weeks (i think tongue.gif ) to see how a programme is working out you.
and keep your diet in check. post it up on your journal and ppl will guide you through it. Good luck.

Hey guys btw erm can you teach me how to not get big size...if i consume protein ..i might be like a giant with my height....and haha i just want a normal guy body....but if i dont drink protein ..muscles wont grow rite....hmm so complicated..i dont wanna be the hulk..or like spartans ...just fit and look muscular
*
To not get big size: don't workout and don't eat. easy.

consuming protein won't make you a giant. its not as easy as you think.

normal guy built? you mean like a typical nasi-lemak-eating-teh-tarik-drinking-malaysian-guy-who-doesn't-work-out with belly? thats easy... don't do anything, just eat nasi lemak, drink teh tarik for all 3 meals of the day and don't exercise...

i don't understand, you don't wanna get big, you're worried about muscles growing. and you want to look muscular rclxub.gif

to get big, go workout...
protein is not necessarily taken in liquid solutions...
there are many people out there who got ripped/big without all the supplements...
they eat right...at the right time...
like fish as the best source of protein...or soy
even if u take protein, without the necessary moves in exercise or workouts, muscles still wont grow
and, if u tak exercise, the protein will later on turn to fats...
as for me, i wanna look ripped, but if i failed in one or 2 years, hell...i'll just get fit from the inside...aha

and according to one of the darklight's posts, its not complicated...to get big...
its all common sense

QUOTE(pizzaboy @ May 19 2007, 10:08 AM)
no
yes

What I mean is, why the overemphasizing bench presses for powerlifters? Yea you move alot of weight in benches, but.....they ain't "functional" ya get me?

You see deadlift related events in strongman (ramp walk), you see squat related events in strongman (keg lift), you see arm related events in strongman (almost everything) you see overhead related events in strongman (timber toss, log press)

Yet nothin on chests. Fucntional strength .....no so much there
*
I think the only good function is to push people around. and i mean literally push. lol.

but its odd how the general masses like to use the bench press as a marker of one's strength. I have this skinny friends that asks me "How much can you bench?" and it just ends there... doens't ask bout squat or deadlift. sweat.gif
Then i ask if he even knows what a deadlift is and his reaction is : huh.gif
lol. laugh.gif

Well my friend. That's because you're looking at things from a powerlifter's perspective. Bodybuilders do it differently. You can still build an aesthetically pleasing physique without deadlifts and even, there i say, without squats. Dorian Yates never squatted, neither did Wong Hong. It's all a matter of different goals.
*
Wong Hong never squatted? ohmy.gif
and his legs are massive! till this day i still wonder where he can get pants for those thunder legs of his... tongue.gif

NOOO~~~ arhghh..............................

i give up.....bleh!

1. u STILL can milk a lot of gains from rippetoe's i believe, if you were consistent. you can!

2. if you're in madcow, you won't squeeze the gains so fast. btw, n00b gains don't last forever. squeeze it while you can.

3. madcow's a long term programme. 6 months, no surprise. if you can't keep doin rippetoe's for even 2 months, how consistent can you promise yourself to be with a six month programme?

4. MADCOW said DON'T FCUK with the programme. Here you say you wanna supplement the main exercise with db/cable/machine. I consistently followed 5x5 like religion for 2 months, no fcukups. No switching.

Chances are i'll see u in a club more than a gym.
*
Yen, what pizza is saying is correct. i made that same mistake and went for 5x5 first then i switched to 3x5. the 3x5 worked better since i was a noob.
btw, how long were you on rippetoes b4 you switched out of it?

Well i guess i wanna be 70% bodybuilder and 30% powerlifter. i wonder if thats possible... tongue.gif flex.gif

i'm not syd, but based on my own experience from as a Lipo-6 user:
Just 1 bottle of lipo-6 will help. but it'll be better if you can take it during the whole cutting period. can speed up your results a bit.
however, you need to take note of the cycling. you need to take 1-2 weeks off after 8 weeks of using lipo-6.
Some people only take it when their fat-loss reaches a plateau.
