despite it being old, the design, IMO, is still acceptable up to this date.
A simple mod with "attractive" and subtle skirtings would give its finest already.

Just seen the red Lantis with the black vinyl at SS15 today. Was looking at the car in a cybercafe, then when I walked out the car was nearby

My cousin's boyfriend has a Mazda Lantis 1.6, recently bought a 2.0 V6 halfcut. Seems quite sturdy although rust bubbles are starting to appear, but overall the car doesn't give him much problems.

cool.. but don think i will upgrade it to 2.0 v6.. petrol consumption sure kaoo.. n maintainence much higher...

hehehe.. me use 1.6 oni.. road tax ok, fuel ok.. no need upgarde la.. if u wanna install vtec, ok lor.. hahahaha...

u want auto? turbo? me can help u find it..

1.8 auto w/o turbo... many said 1.6 not power enuff??

i wont upgrade engine 1st.. outlook 1st.. haha..

i have been driving a Lantis for 3 years now and loving every moment. Of course there are the usual wear and tear issue but its not something no one can repair. Maintenance is expensive... i think that is over rated. Its not like maintaining a Proton but its not gonna cost you a bomb either.

There are plenty of chop shop with Lantis part around town (i mean PJ, Subang and KL). I just found a air-con compressor for RM150. I think a Proton air-con compressor cost around that too...

Lantis and Ford Lynx (as with most Ford and Mazda in this country) are mechanical twins, so for most Ford's part will fit nicely.

If you are bored with your 1.6 or 1.8, there is the K-series engine available for upgrade. Most common is the KFZE which is 2.0 V6. This is a really sweet engine and the upgrade cost is cheaper than most Honda.

Not everything is sweet with this car though... the frameless window can sometime be a little nuisance... after years of abuse, there are alway the issue of gaps when you close the door. There are simple solution to this. hop over to the local Lantis forum to meet and learn more about the Lantis.

Bottom line is do some research and then decide. Enjoy.

haha..seem like imposibble..once u have it u always want to upgrade it..life is about a change..trust me..u'll change ur engine performance when u have been overtaking by local car....1.6 supercharge is ok what..u can even fly with it..

so now even i drive my fren's EVO7,max speed i go is 160.. n my frenz don let me drive the car anymore.. coz a Wira can overtake me.. haha.. now i only speed at high way.. play ZIGZAG.. haahaa..

Just to share, some shots of my friend's previous Lantis (now in the hand of someone else).
He had the sunroof installed due to rust started to appear on the roof.
So the first thing you gonna check when getting used Lantis would be the roof.


How much was the sunroof? Quite cheap at RM500.

Ya la..if u really like the car..go for it.

might be... parts especially. but still cheap. Some even cheaper than protongs. last time my pren bought head B8 gasket for RM40? WTF cheap? mine 4G93 is around RM100 if not mistaken...

sedan wan is quite rare... but lantis hatchback & ford hatchbacks got wan ler...

quite... if layan traffic jam no good. But highway cruise with around 170hp does worth it...
maintenance? same oni I believe, even the V6 design is a bit diff. normal V6 still got 4 cam pulleys, this one 2 oni... haha... damned I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that. Feel like slapping *ss....
