FYI
"A DDR3 DIMM will not fit into a standard DDR2. The notch in a 240-pin DDR3 DIMM is in a different location than the notch for regular 240-pin DDR2" |

QUOTE(kmarc @ Apr 26 2007, 10:39 PM) Hot news. DDR3 memory modules is out!! interesting..but in 2009?at least i get time to save some cash to buy bigger n faster dd3 mem.. Reviews so far: Super talent DDR3 - working modules Buffalo DDR3 - already for sale! Facts up to now: 90 nm process 40% lower power consumption (compared to DDR2) 1.5V (DDR2 1.8v, DDR 2.5v) 800-1600 Mhz effective clock rate (DDR2 : 400-1066 Mhz) (DDR 200-600 Mhz) CAS 7 (Rated at 5 - 10) (DDR2 3-6) 8-bit pre-fetch architecture (DDR2 4-bit) Mainstream in 2009 (Probably..... maybe..... don't get your hopes up to much!!!) And the last part: 240-pin DIMM interface - allowing DDR3-compatible chipsets to host DDR2 modules !!! This means that by that time, when we upgrade, we can still use our DDR2-1200 Mhz CL 3 Corsair dominator water-cooled RAMS !!! |

QUOTE(campsol2k @ May 1 2007, 10:46 PM) FYI Oh no! I didn't believe that until I googled it. It seems that it is true the notch is in a different place. "A DDR3 DIMM will not fit into a standard DDR2. The notch in a 240-pin DDR3 DIMM is in a different location than the notch for regular 240-pin DDR2" How misleading this phrase is - "240-pin DIMM interface - allowing DDR3-compatible chipsets to host DDR2 modules !!!" Note the word "chipset". It actually (cleverly) didn't mention anything about DIMM compatibility!!! Only chipset compatible! Hopefully, there will be DDR3 mobo that have slots for DDR2 DIMM???!!??!? |

aiyo.,....but not same place is better, cause for noob who go buy ram,"i know it has 240 pin only"
then the shop ppl give him ddr3 and put into his ddr2 mobo, then kahboom! so,better clerify this lo,just we waste a lot of money. |

So, does this mean that DDR3 mobo is not going to be able to support DDR2 ram and vice versa?

i think so,if it is,there is no point to launch ddr3,beside that, the location of the notch is different, cant fix.

Aiks, and i thought they are compatible in the first place. That will help reduce the burden and cost to some people who wanted an upgrade..lol..So, the question is, would there be any Hybrid board that is going to have both DDR2 & DDR3 Dimm slots? |

However, some people might not like it as they won't be able to use the full 4 slots if they decide to later upgrade totally to DDR3.As for me, I don't mind using only 2 slots as I still want dual-channel! Unless DDR3 mobo can have quad-channel???? |

QUOTE Buffalo will sell 512MB PC3-8500 memory modules for ¥37 700 ($315), whereas two of such modules will cost ¥75 000 ($627). 1GB PC3-8500 modules from Buffalo will cost end-users ¥71 000 ($595), while a kit of two such modules will be priced at ($1180). Here's a comparison between DDR3 vs DDR2.
Just look at the DDR3 timings!! http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2989 This post has been edited by kmarc: May 16 2007, 10:20 PM |

Here's another simplified comparison between DDR3 and DDR2:
Kingston DDR3 Vs DDR2 The price of new DDR3 would be burning our pocket, unless you have a lot of $$$ This post has been edited by ronaldjoe: May 20 2007, 11:54 AM |

ERmmm.... the latency almost double if compare to DDR2. But performance still can beat DDR2.
Really wish to see the mature of DDR3 with lower latency. Tempting -pWs- |

QUOTE(X.E.D @ May 20 2007, 03:18 PM) Written off as diminishing return. Or maybe to royally screw AMD in the nuts. Wei, no ranting here. Can go to "Kopitiam" to rant. Anyways, this is more of selling Bearlake than DDR3 itself. Would anyone care about how "good" the new specs are if Barcelona struts its stuff and RD700 gets more coverage than the new P/Gs, simply because of better performance? |

i think need more time for the manufacturer to develop more stable DDR3 before it really suite to market....
now the Price of DDR3 PC6400 still quite high.... if this really into market, it really make a deep impact to market.... somemore the MOBO supported, it also another big problem... the manufacturer really have a long way to go... |

look like ddr3 can run at much lower voltage...
see that 1.5 volt This post has been edited by salimbest83: May 21 2007, 05:17 AM |
