Seriously if you earn 50k a month, you don't think about driving car but rather have someone chauffeur you.

A 360k car is the highest limit
Rules*: never spend more than 25% of your salary on transport, never spend more than 1/2 your transport bill on purchase price, and never buy a car on instalment more than 3 years Maths: 20k x 36 months x 1/2 = 360k That should be enough for a decent BMW. Of course, the less you spend, the better your retirement, the more you have for famiy and reserve/emergency. There's absolutely nothing wrong with earning 20k and driving a Civic or CRV. *rules are optional and based on your own budget balancing between necessity, future and immediate enjoyment. Some other rules could also be: Never spend more than 10% annual salary on a car; 20k x 36 months x 10% = 72k car Never spend more than 1 months salary on a car; 20k x 3 years = 60k car Never take a loan for a car, pay for it within 1 years' salary; 20k x 12 months x 25% x 1/2 = 30k car This post has been edited by KLboy92: Dec 16 2017, 03:28 AM |

Beli kereta nak mahal mahal kat Malaysia dah lah bahaya kena marking jadi mangsa rompak dan macam-macam, langgar kereta biasa nanti kata orang kaya buli miskin.
Senang, bawak kereta nasional. Apa-apa hal semua deal macam orang biasa. Nak rompak pun tak sakit hati, kena langgar sikit boleh maafkan orang jadi orang yang mulia. |

I guess with 20k monthly income I would buy one which is comfy and has good safety features but nothing too expensive. Maybe CRV or Camry level the max limit.

I'm trying to understand this rule. this is just kopitiam rule lah, simply what people say - your salary should be split about 5 ways:-1k rent + house maintenance -1k food -1k misc expenses (phone, insurance, internet, entertainment, etc.) -1k savings -1k transport, divided into toll, petrol, parking and car instalment and maintenance if other expenses take up say Rm500 of your Rm1,000 transport allocation, then you have only Rm500 x 12 = Rm6,000 to spend on a car a year you should try to pay off a car within 3 to 5 years. So your range should be from Rm18,000 to Rm30,000. |

QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Dec 16 2017, 02:44 PM) this is just kopitiam rule lah, simply what people say - your salary should be split about 5 ways: so, the options are usually a second hand or axia, iriz 1.3mt at best. This is if I were to stay in the healthy budget range. alright2 thanks bro-1k rent + house maintenance -1k food -1k misc expenses (phone, insurance, internet, entertainment, etc.) -1k savings -1k transport, divided into toll, petrol, parking and car instalment and maintenance if other expenses take up say Rm500 of your Rm1,000 transport allocation, then you have only Rm500 x 12 = Rm6,000 to spend on a car a year you should try to pay off a car within 3 to 5 years. So your range should be from Rm18,000 to Rm30,000. |

20k income? Drive Honda Accord.
Only showoffs and lansi chai will drive Lamborghini on 20k income or Mercedes Benz C class on 5k income. The western school of thought is that the type of car you drive does not matter as long as it is safe. The Asian school of thought, the more expensive the car, the more angin. Safety is not a concern as long as the brand and price tag is expensive. The African American school of thought, see Asian school of thought above. |

20K is entry level.
You don't need to open new thread for such entry level income. As other members mentioned, entry level income should have entry level high class car like Perodua Axia. |

QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Dec 16 2017, 04:23 AM) A 360k car is the highest limit true...interesting..i will just pin it up and see how this works in my financesRules*: never spend more than 25% of your salary on transport, never spend more than 1/2 your transport bill on purchase price, and never buy a car on instalment more than 3 years Maths: 20k x 36 months x 1/2 = 360k That should be enough for a decent BMW. Of course, the less you spend, the better your retirement, the more you have for famiy and reserve/emergency. There's absolutely nothing wrong with earning 20k and driving a Civic or CRV. *rules are optional and based on your own budget balancing between necessity, future and immediate enjoyment. Some other rules could also be: Never spend more than 10% annual salary on a car; 20k x 36 months x 10% = 72k car Never spend more than 1 months salary on a car; 20k x 3 years = 60k car Never take a loan for a car, pay for it within 1 years' salary; 20k x 12 months x 25% x 1/2 = 30k car QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Dec 16 2017, 05:10 AM) yes..it is self enrichment genre which can always improve oneself, me & /k includedQUOTE(KLboy92 @ Dec 16 2017, 03:44 PM) this is just kopitiam rule lah, simply what people say - your salary should be split about 5 ways: wow.correct..for me i only consider two- misc expenses and savings.-1k rent + house maintenance -1k food -1k misc expenses (phone, insurance, internet, entertainment, etc.) -1k savings -1k transport, divided into toll, petrol, parking and car instalment and maintenance if other expenses take up say Rm500 of your Rm1,000 transport allocation, then you have only Rm500 x 12 = Rm6,000 to spend on a car a year you should try to pay off a car within 3 to 5 years. Shit always happen to people who enjoy showing off their income. I know many earning more than 20K but driving old 20 year old cars. Low profile is the key.

20K income, no need to show off by driving an expensive car as car is a liability; the money is better used to buy money-making assets like properties or invest in stock market.

You guys do know that most girls are not into cars, right?
The reason why luxury cars are such big business is because mostly only men buy them to show off their epeen. Girls are more impressed by the size of your home than the car you drive. You will need to take them home someday and when you do, make sure your home is more impressive than the car you drive or you can say bye bye to the girl. Big house in an upmarket location will impress most girls. Why do you think the top 1% throw house parties and invited their friends over? To impress the girls. Girls are hardwired to want guys who can provide and nurture their future offsprings. A large comfortable home is more desirable than a luxury car. Just my two cents. QUOTE(Nachiino Etamay @ Dec 18 2017, 09:00 AM) Personally, i think car ownership should be based on net assets. So a fresh graduate who has 0 assets have to work 10 years and if his average salary is RM5,000 and he save 1/2, only can save RM300,000 x 6% = RM18,000 <---- so he needs to work 10 years and save 50% of his gross pay, and then when he is about 35 years old, only then he can afford to buy a Axia ?I think a car should be approximately 6% of 6% of your net assets so if you have Rm12 million, 6% of 6% of RM12 million can buy a myvi |

QUOTE(mohdyakup @ Dec 18 2017, 01:02 PM) Yup.Large landed property in an upmarket address is a better indicator of wealth. I have lived in Cheras and have seen more luxury cars parked inside single story terrace houses and middle class apartments than you can shake a stick at. Even my next door neighbor drives a brand new Audi A4 while his wife drives a Vellfire. Both cars take up their whole driveway in their single story terrace house. The house looks run down and sorely needs a paint job but I guess that family prefer to spend on cars than to spend on their home. |

QUOTE(JerryTeh @ Dec 18 2017, 02:36 PM) JerryTehReally? What about those with 3 small kids and landed while earning 10k (combined income)? I see them living pretty comfortable with holidays twice a year at least. It’s not how much you earn. It’s how well you spent your money.
