Am really late to the TWE party and just applied on 1 Feb. Got my approval SMS this evening and hope it won't take too long to be delivered.

Feeling very silly and kicking myself for not applying when it first launched as I missed out on points for year end holiday and CNY spending, as well as kids school fees.

Once I get this card I'm gonna cancel all my other cards except for M2P and perhaps PBB with the hopes of maxing the promotion period and also hitting the AF waiver threshold.
*
my suggestion to you is hold to your other cards as TWE campaign is ending on 31 Dec 2023.

we won't know for sure whether CIMB will be extending the campaign so to save the hassle of need to apply back all other cards, it's better to hold on to.

maybe can exclude those cards from banks that always give out really good acquisition offer, like Citibank, HSBC, etc where you will be rewarded handsomely when you apply back 6/12 months later.

Thanks for the suggestion. Im defo doing that for Citi. SCB and HSBC so that this TWE year can be the "cooling off" period for sign up offers.

Also thinking to cancel the rest (AMB, HLB, some PBB, Affin, AE0N) as after more than 10 years of cashback mining I'm now focusing on miles. As I get older and cashback rewards are less generous, holding 20+ cards is not as fulfilling as in my younger days.

Will start the culling from the most useless cards first and see how it goes.

Also keen to get TWE supp for my husband. Saw that some people advised going to branch to apply instead of online.
*
the only advantage of miles cards compare to cashback cards is they have basically no "limit" of rewards.

with that being said, cards like M2P still has a 2m TP redemption limit per year.

if your cashback cards give better rewards, in term of %, compare to miles cards, it's no brainer to get the cashback cards.

reason being because with cash, you can buy J and F seats anytime you want. Don't need to go through the hassle of process of redeeming miles. It's a very taxing process.

anyway, I can understand the hassle of holding 20+ cards. It's a headache to manage and pay the card statement for so many cards. Speaking from my experience of holding much much more cards than you. Haha.

Same as you, I have a plan to "slim down" my cards holding portfolio by raiding on TWE campaign this year.

The acquisition campaign is much more rewarding for certain banks.

After this exercise, I can clear up many BT ongoing and I then will have a better financial score to apply for more financial products in the future.

Wise words and thanks for sharing your experience. Looks like you've also got a very clear and refined card strategy.

My 20+ portfolio is already slimmed down compared to the good old days where CB benefits were higher, no e-wallet restrictions and also applied to supps (e.g. remember when PBB had individual cashback for 9 supps and most cards did not restrict lounge access / airport rides for supps?).

Re cashback, agree with CB your strategy as my annual cashback exceeds RM10k per year (excluding interest earned from 0% FPPs and BTs). Last year's return was 13k despite some banks cutting back cashback. I'm looking forward to the simplicity of maintaining fewer cards in 2023 (TWE, M2P, maybe Affin, HLB and PBB-i) especially after nearly ALL my cards getting hit by frauds last year likely due to the ipay88 thingy.

I was slow to get onto the TWE bandwagon because there was a period of time that I got rejected by banks (Alliance and RHB), likely due to holding many cards. Am using 2023 as a much needed clean up and rationalisation, and aiming tor my AF waiver!
*
ya. The good old days of supp cards getting separate cashback pushed my cards holding to the max in that period.

utilization of credit proportionate to your total credit limit
high total credit limit

above two are possible reasons for the bank rejection.

holding too many cards are not possible reason.

bank got take a certain % from your total debt and compares to your income.

every bank has different % based on their risk appetite.

I only hold cards that I use (esp those with FPP / BT) so that led to very high utilisation of CL and high total CL (banks typically give me CL of 100k+). Apart from Alliance and RHB which have rejected me at least twice in the past 5 years, other banks generally OK, even after repeated cancellation and reapplication after 12 months (SCB, HSBC, Citi). Just checked eccris and looks like my TWE CL is 250k.  Last CIMB card I held was the Enrich one when they gave the 60k miles as a sign-up offer iirc.

On a related note, I also just signed up for the CIMB Prime account so that I can pay off TWE through CIMB Clicks and perhaps make use of the Prime account current promotional interest rate Prime Account 2023 Promo
*
as suspected due to FPP / BT. Same as me. Haha.

somehow I am stuck in those existing BT where I cannot pay off earlier to avoid any penalty imposing.

however most of them will be settled by mid of this year.

the daily interest earned from those FPP / BT is not bad. Free money always good.

repeated cancellation and re-application is not a reason of bank rejection.

CIMB Prime only give bonus interest for the first RM50k. I skipped it. Not worth the hassle for me to open the account.

RM250k for TWE CL is good for churning. But it will be the same old story of high utilization of credit limit if you intend to play the 30+21 days payment deadline.

Good luck.

I recommended my peer to apply TWE card, but got rejected. Her annual income is 660k per annum with monthly loans liability around RM15k and got rejected, but pledge RM5k FD can get the card? What logic CIMB lol

they see total liability, not only loan liability.

Means if you work 9-5 it's very hard to qualify for the card?
*
why not?

It based on gross income, not net income.

your gross income just need RM20,834/month then can qualify already.

I've tried on Travel Plat only. Yes, very likely since Travel Plat also falls within the same category spendings as TWE. All of my 3 months transactions related back to Setel has points credited to me at all.

I've tried cardterus, topup and don't honour me with points. I suspect they are using Petrol MCC.

oh. I thought you get pts.

I suspect didn't get pts has nothing to do with MCC but because of the saved card and direct top up without OTP.

Same as the previous TnG saved card problem.

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Jul 28 2023, 06:03 PM)
going to join back CIMB CC; been looking at the new Petronas VI-i and Petronas Plat-i

some curious questions on how the cb works

1) CB is based on statement month or calendar month? --- from T&C, it's by statement month. Cashback quota follow statement cycle.

2) when does CB credited? -- from T&C, it will be credited "in the next month’s statement". is there a fixed posting date or roughly when? Cashback will get at statement date.

caveat: "Cash Rebate(s) earned by the Cardholder(s) for each current month will not be posted to the Cardholder(s)’ Co-Brand Card account in the next month’s statement if the Cardholder(s) fails to make the minimum payment due by the Due Date stated in the current month’s statement."
  rclxub.gif

Seems like cb is delayed 1 statement month hmm.gif  No delay.
3) cashback tier based on the clause "*Statement Balance includes any outstanding balances which are carried forward from the previous month’s statement and new transactions made on the current month’s statement. Any payments made before the current month’s statement date will be taken into account in calculating the current month’s Statement Balance."

If i understand this correctly, the mechanism is similar to Affin Duo's? Yes.
thanks

Taken from the Facebook group - 信用卡分享。This customer has accumulated 80 million points worth 8 million Enrich Miles! Fingers crossed the Bank does not confiscate the points. Maybank used to confiscate points when customers use personal charge cards for business expenses.

No wonder CIMB bank has changed the terms and conditions. It is simply incurring losses by paying bonus miles worth 2 to 2.5% cashback.
*
What is 80 mil of bonus points.

I have seen 2 billion of bonus points.

WOW!

2 billion points require 200m of spending!
But I doubt CIMB will truly honour 4m-5m worth of cashback?
Terms and Conditions will allow them to confiscate the points if used for any purpose other than for personal expenditure

no Cash Rebate(s) will be granted in respect of the following transactions:-
E-wallet transaction under designated MCC: 6540.

So i assume top up Setel should excluded.
