Hey everyone. This is my first time posting here. I have a 2010 2.0 CVT Inspira, recently I’ve noticed a whining sound coming from the engine at high speeds (around 140 and above I think)

I’ve read that it has something to do with the CVT oil and needed to be changed. Is this true? How do I check it and can I do it myself?

I’m not the most car savvy guy so I’d appreciate if someone could walk me through it 😁. Thanks
*
I had that before. Even got the warning once. Gear icon with message, slow down. After CVT oil change all sorted. Dumped Proton SC from then on. Trusted them to follow their own service schedule but they never did. Luckily no long term damage. At least none I can see/feel so far la.

Anyway, I recently started hearing the whining sound again from the gearbox. Next service will be time to change CVT oil and CVT oil filter liao.....

BTW, to those celebrating, Gong Xi Fa Chai!!! Huat arrr!!!!!

Sorry. Didn’t answer yr question. Not sure how to check but the first time I had the warning, I send to outside mechanic and he plugged in Bosch diagnostic tool and told me my CVT oil degraded. So not sure if its something you can do yourself.

I reckon, check the service schedules, if its time to change, just do it.

Alright thanks a lot brother. I didn’t get the warning light but definitely going to have it checked ASAP.

Hmm... I see. That’s a really useful information. I bought the car about 6 months ago a 2010 model. Now has 70000 on the odometer. Only had 1 previous owner. Honestly I don’t know if he didn’t drive much or they changed the odometer 🤷🏻‍♂️ But the car is in great shape and dead stock.

So far I’ve only had to change the rear shocks, boot dampers, battery and undertrays. No performance mods.
But... I drive like mad especially when the road is empty haha 😂 chased an Audi at 200km once, never caught him of course but it was good fun 😂 That’s when I first realized about the whining sound. Ever since then I only hear the whining I think about 140-150 and above. But yeah... I better get it checked and take it easy for now haha 😂

Can anyone recommend a workshop around Bandar Saujana Putra/Putra Heights/Subang Jaya/Puchong area that I can trust to service my Inspira? Seems like a few workshops have no experience working on an Inspira ☹️

I have to change my CVT fluid but I’d rather not go to a Proton service center, because I don’t want the proton CVT fluid. It’s garbage apparently haha 😂.

Sometimes we need a little bit of speed in our lives 😂

I did some reading up and I’m making sure to get genuine Mitsubishi CVT fluid J4 (Rm46/L on Lazada). As I understand J1 and J4 is the same, it’s just that J4 is the newer formula. Although the dip stick says to use J1 but J4 can also be used. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I think 4L should be enough right?

4 to 5 l of its only for drain and top up.

If full drain, empty all, needs more.

Mine also cracked. I ended up taking it off and patching the clip holes. Debadged the car as well. The back end looks so much cleaner now.
