its commercial joinery, enables assembly and disassembly. The usage of D-Nut, is it because of the chipboard material that you are using as the carcass? Since chipboard cannot be joined reliably with normal wood technique.

I still have a Question, why din user cheaper local solid wood, rather pakai melamine chipboard?

And ya, IKEA furniture, you get what you paid for, that picture. But Etsy/Pinterest orang putih punya wood work, mahal at labor. Ad from pakistan/bangla murah, haha! J/k

Hi , nice question biggrin.gif

To me, there has alot of great and durable wood in here Malaysia, but then, still have no company to get use of it. I believe, if someone can bring up this culture, it has a very potential market in Global.

Since wood, are always a great accompaniment for human, we use it to create wonderful world before today rclxms.gif

Dnut was used to join the white oak panels to the carcass on site.
why should i use any ikea style connector or dnut on building carcass frame itself?
its not made as flat pack design. cos i already mention the concern above why it wasnt built as flat packed.

as for being orang puteh or not, even if i paid local or banggla to join the white oak into panels and do proper dark staining, you think most of them can do it?
if they can, then they wont be cutting panels from Fingerjoint rubberwood. lets just say maybe 10% or less of the local cabinet makers can joint hard solid wood (directly using rough sawn timber).
maybe soft pine wood they can la. since they can stretch and squeeze the soft pine to form a tight glue line using their clamps, as for nyatoh, yea perhaps they can too, cos its mostly s4s planed already from the shop. its usually not rough sawn nyatoh.

last question:
I still have a Question, why din user cheaper local solid wood, rather pakai melamine chipboard?
matter of preference vs time frame vs budget. we can build both ways.
*
Agreed on your statement, at the end, it is all about labour cost. Which will greatly impact end user buying price than the cost of the wood alone.

Solid wood like i am selling (Balau or Chengal) , need more time and man power to make it perfect finish. And there is lot of challenge to make use of it, it is not easy to join, and bend. You will need to settle the problem cause by improper drying or storing location, then, you will need to settle the cracking problem which cause by natural life effect, then come to each wood from different jungle will have different side effect during working.

Like log come from Kelantan will have some oil coming out (Chengal) , but from Perak it has no such problem, but it cracked easily.

This is all the thing they facing before you see a very beautiful furniture in shopping centre.

I has a customer who recently brought a Balau Slab from me to make a table, he send to Kuantan for further finishing job, the table is 5"x40"x10 feet, the cost until it look like a "real beautiful" table in 5star hotel is RM9000.

alot of behind the scene processing of the raw wood before they look like those 10-20k table tops.

Yesterday i visit 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya. In new wing, 4th floor i think, got 1 furniture store name Kare as i remember, was selling an Italy brand dining table around 3"x 40" x 8 feet, for RM49,888. Even discount 20% still need RM40k. That is still not whole piece of wood, it is joined with multiple pcs puke.gif

The upper floor is Celini, selling sofa and furniture too.

Just wanted to share with you guy, a England husband and wife found my company on net, and make order for a house building in Langkawi.

Today, they come to me for seeing the sample and further discuss on the order. What's really surprising me is the husband make a beautiful model to show me piece by piece ! And the whole house is design by him ! He is 65 Years old. I was stunning when he mentioned that he bring along the model he have created, and looking for the way to built a wooden house without nail and screw ! I am respect for his passion.

Further surprising me is, he is the carpenter to built (with help from few ppl). When i saw the model with even furniture inside, i am get touched by his dream. I do hope you guy do the same notworthy.gif

How much is your chengal? got 2" x 4" (or bigger also can). Thanks.
*
Hi, you can pm me the size and length, so that we can calculate for you.

QUOTE(lawrencesha @ Jul 13 2019, 01:01 AM)
The wood warp not because of the paint. PU does not cause warping. Your wood wasn't dry enough when you work on it. As it dries over time, the wood will warp and change shape until it matches the environment's humidity.
*
Ya, very good information here biggrin.gif

Even natural dry, it won't dry enough.

Another way to prevent such happen is used of older tree to cut, but then, it still not 100% ensure it won't wraps.

QUOTE(lawrencesha @ Jul 13 2019, 07:03 AM)
Unfortunately, no. To properly dry the wood, we need a big ass oven called a Kiln Dry. This process takes weeks if not months. It is too expensive to do here.

So, we usually allow nature to dry it and this takes years. I had some tembusu that was kept for years (close to 10 yrs) and it still warps.
*
Good info.

QUOTE(lawrencesha @ Jul 13 2019, 01:33 PM)
Sorry. But that is a bad idea. That will indeed speed up the drying process. But it will just speed the warping. And because it dries too fast, the wood will have a higher chance to crack.

Hahaha, nvm, since wood knowledge is wide as sea, we can share and talk with relax.

I also still learning, learning from everyone, asking what info that we not learned biggrin.gif

Many years until today, i still saw plenty of fresh issue happen in our stock. Some say is species problem, some say is weather issue, some say, well, is because it is natural thing ! So it need to have more time spend on finishing it.

Everyone is welcome to my factory to see, you will be well served biggrin.gif

Hi PowerPC

Been following your thread since it was first open. Its really cool to see how wood was use and learn quite a lot through so many knowledge sharing by so many wood enthusiast  rclxms.gif

I've recently took my keys to my new home and i'm happy to try out some diy wood project of my own. Albeit, its a simple wall shelf but still i'm quite exciting about it

Long story short, i'm trying replicate the wall shelf as per the picture above.

So far i think its either pine wood + varnish could achieve such effect. I'm not sure if there is any other type of wood would replicate that light color feel. My choice would be limited by budget itself. probably expecting it to cost 400+- for 3 planks. (150cm L, 40cm W, 2cm Thickness)

If it were to custom cut, will be any limitation in terms or size, thickness or etc etc? would really like to see if there is anything you recommend.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
*
Hi, thanks for your following, biggrin.gif

Wood does make very natural looking all the way for home, and yes, you can done it by buying those short prank, but our process wood is heavy to use as such proposed, you should consult ar188 for his recommendation about other light wood.

QUOTE(ar188 @ Aug 23 2019, 10:53 AM)
yes we have gluedup pine panels which could be made to those size. no issue. 400 can do. thickness is 17-18 mm standard.
finishing, you can just buy rm10-20 clear lacquer spray.
*
See ? This is what i mention above.

It is too heavy and overkill for them biggrin.gif Such wood need to step by lorry ~~ ahaha

QUOTE(kabyss87 @ Aug 27 2019, 12:29 PM)
Im a bit worried about the glue part. not so sure about the durability throughout the years of usage. i mean i'd be using it as a kitchen shelf, so naturally it would have to hold heavy stuff. I think most pine in malaysia are the soft type, but so long it serve it purposes then im fine. Else rubber wood would be the best alternative in terms of budget build?

Kindly advise. tqvm  laugh.gif
So using those hardwood is a bit overkill for kitchen shelves i guess.. but it looks so good!  laugh.gif

Wait till i have more budget.  thumbup.gif

Ya ya, over kill ~~

But then if you have extra land, you can buy some slab from me and make table there, can enjoy moon light during night, chit chat with friend.

Thanks for sharing, TS. You should post some videos on Youtube as well. Interesting projects you have. I love seeing all these solid wood furniture instead of particle board. Sadly, I think most people furniture are all particle board or MDF because that's all that's being sold on the internet and in furniture shops.

Hi sir, thanks for your idea, appreciated it.

I am sorry but due to we are only sawmill factory, we are only output raw wood, as we don't have any skilled furniture workers, thanks to few forumers here who very pro to do anything and post their job here, i am very happy to see that too.

Here can also be a place for all who keen to share it smile.gif
