For me i just want global for the sake of removing those not-uninstallable chinese apps that i dont use anyway. Language and google apps no longer a problem.

For those who cant wait for global rom, someone just ported Mi A1 rom over. Still on Nougat though. And only bugs on fingerprint scanner, brightness and camera not working. Try it if you want, if dont like can always roll back to china stable rom.

Haha this is where i am different. I dont fiddle with settings or customisations. Just use it as it is, as long as it works to serve my simple purpose. I prefer less feature and less things.

I havent flash anything yet. Bought my phone in stable china rom. Just did the bootloader unlock request yesterday and now in 2 weeks waiting period. No plans on flashing anything yet unless a stable global rom is out.

Your case is seller force load an unauthorised rom. So your best bet is like what the poster said, return for refund or a replacement for an untampered unit, or if u wish to gamble it, request for bootloader unlock (if it can be done) and once complete the waiting period, to flash to china rom or global if it is released by then, or gamble with A1 aosp port. Either one of these 3 is still better than an unauthorised rom.

Would like to understand one thing - let's say we install google launcher (or any other home launcher), does it replace miui straightaway or it is just a skin on top of miui?

aw that sucks. No wonder ppl talk alot about flashing the whole rom.

1. try apply for bootloader unlock - with the "unauthorised" rom, i am not sure if binding of your xiaomi account will be successful or not. but do try and let us know if it works. if you can bind the account and approval is given then all that is left is plug into mi unlock tool, and then they force you to wait 360hours, and unlock again after the countdown finishes. after successfully unlock bootloader, copy paste china rom into root folder, boot into recovery and flash from there.

2. use the testpoint method - the same way they forcefuly flash the "unauthorised" rom without unlocking bootloader, but this time you are flashing an authorised china rom. nobody has done this yet from what i read in miui forum, so again, do try and let us know if it works.

when you say custom rom i had earlier assumed you were talking about those who had the "unauthorised" global rom bought from online sales site like aliexpress/ebay .

Now let's assume that you have a unit with the mi A1 ported rom (or any custom rom like lineageOS if it exists) and you want to revert back to china rom, chances are if you already have a custom rom in your phone that means the bootloader is already unlocked (for you to flash a custom in the first place), so what you need to do is just copy paste china rom into root folder, boot into recovery and flash from there. maybe you already replaced the stock recovery with TWRP even.

alternatively again, test-point method.

Lol boleh lah. After reading thru the guides and actually doing it myself, the unlocking process up till now is pretty easy. So kasi unlock dulu no harm. Flash or no flash belakang cerita.

the download link is active, but you'll run into trouble if you flash that rom. something about requiring beta/developer account.

anyway let's just wait lor.
