QUOTE(quarantined @ Dec 3 2007, 12:14 AM) Are they really that bad? Maple fretboard in a non mahogany bodied Les Paul, shouldn't it be pretty interesting? Bad news on the Epis though. How much is that thing listed anyway? Listed the same price as though they're real Epis I suppose? lol..well its not maple in the first place.. its plastic ..tested it in mighty music..that was what the feller told me beware!!! yellow doesn't = maple

Plastic? They had me fooled. Must test that thing when there's a chance.

damnit everdying you seriously have a good eye. That's the store in some obscure corner of the old wing right? Past Guitar Collection. I was actually in there testing just for kicks a few weeks back and there actually is a noticeable tonal difference (i mean, duh). I thought it was just bad QC, but i never really noticed the other details you pointed out.
Added on December 3, 2007, 9:57 pmand btw, to check for plastic fingerboards, press the fretboard without touching any strings. There is a slight difference. Since you already know which ones have plastic fingerboards, go and press those. Then go home and press the one on your axe. There is a slight but noticeable diff in the texture that the finishing can't hide.
