Not on hand. One thing you can do is wander from house to house or condo unit to unit and if the workmanship and design strands out to you, ring the door bell and get to know the neighbour and tell them what you intend to do with yours and that you like their design and ask for the contact. Kills a lot of birds this way.

don't think people are so enthusiastic about sharing their security systems...

because i have yet seen people installing grills on their oversized windows.

Never try never know. This is the old fashioned way to be neighbourly. Granted some may be sceptical but if they detect an honest intention I don't doubt for a second it's they'll reject your request. Try it la. No harm. Worst come to worst, skin just get thicker only. biggrin.gif stick to grills first. Honestly, you just need a contact if the design is good.

Is the CCTV inside the apartment or outside? If outside, is there a power socket to power the CCTV?

Similarly I plan to install a CCTV in the apartment, though a cheap one such as the Xiaomi Dafang. However, I was thinking that even though there are all these security measures in place, the thief or burglar may have got smarter throughout the years with all these technological advancements. Even though there is a CCTV, the intruder may wear a face mask and for this reason people may not be able to identify the culprit. I have received few Whatsapp videos from friends and some of the break-ins captured by videos, the intruders were wearing a mask or a cloth to cover the face.

Similarly I am in agreement with few comments on iron grille. It is surely true that the padlock, I mean any padlocks low-end or high-end can be easily opened by a locksmith in several seconds. Few years ago I hired a locksmith to open a padlock and to my amazement he opened it in a blink of an eye, probably in less than 5 seconds. It's like child play to him. Seeing him unlock the padlock just makes me wonder the man can enter through any locked gates without any problem. Though he is earning a living but with the skills he possesses, he can have access to basically any home if he has bad intentions.

Now coming back to this iron grille. If the main door iron grille and padlocks are breached by the intruder, the second tier would be the CCTV and most importantly alarm. Personally I think CCTV is important but it is just a tool to record videos. That's all. It will likely not prevent the thief from carrying out his work. However, the alarm will surely cause some panic and somehow disrupt the activity. Better still if the alarm is connected to the main security system of the condominium or apartment so that the security guards will be alerted once the alarm goes off, but this connected system is usually available only in high-end condo or apartment.

In summary, it is clear from this thread that iron grille is necessary for high floor condo units, not only for break-ins but to prevent a young child from falling 10 or 20 storeys down. The second point is if the 1st tier security in iron grille at the main door or pad locks are breached, the 2nd tier security which I believe is the last tier will be the CCTV + Alarm.

Yes outside. At least you need power. Then you can even opt for IP camera.

Hi.. I would like to ask something related to grill.
I just install a new grill at my condo... My condo has no balcony. I installed grill on the window for safety as I have small kids. I got permission from management. However, they didn't tell me beforehand that there is a specific design to follow.

After I install, the management came to inspect (in order to return my depo). Then only they informed me that there is specific design that I have to follow... Now they are demanding me to remove the existing grill and reinstall with the new approved design.. I already spend more than 8k. Also, I wasn't informed by the management about the design before I started the Reno.

What should I do?

Well... actually if the grille is totally inside your unit compoud, and did not affect any beam/pillar structure, its beyond management's control/rules.
As per ur photo, if we don't treat it as grille, its just an internal silver decoration kan?

So either talk strata rules with them or tell them that is not window grille, that is your inside house feng shui decor saja... else, listen to them and change saja...

As far as I have noticed, management has no jurisdiction on what you install inside your unit, as long as it does not change the external façade of the building. Imagine management specifying what type of curtains you can install, or what colour to paint your rooms.

They can however ask you to change the front door grille, as it leads to a common area. This is usually the only grille they have jurisdiction over.

You also should not need to allow access into your unit. Ask for your deposit back, and tell them to inspect the surrounding area for compliance (no trash, clean, no damages, etc) to the permit you applied for. Unfortunately there are a lot of little Napoleons around, and you may have to escalate this issue to the Commissioner of Buildings for final resolution.
