Just gotten my Note8 4 days ago, hence trying to participate a bit more here.

I was using the S8+ before this but felt no desire to participate, lol. The S-Pen calls out to me....

I read thru this v5 thread and find these posts seem pertinent.

Always use local databaes backup

May I ask why?

Read all the post in this thread regarding tempered class and screen protector. Here is a small conclusion:

1) Dont use tempered class on note 8 cause it will spoil the user experience
2) Using cheap tempered class because all tc/SP are the same
3) Whitestone dome user - good review so far but expensive
4) X-one - mix of review - some have screen sensitivity issue, edge lift up
5) HAO - mix of review - dust and sensitivity issue.

If you are using tempered class, please copy/reply this post with your answer and comments on how is your experience so far with the SP in term of  sensitivity, dust, and etc and what tempered class you use?

I'm using a TG, which I think is full adhesive (or 98% ?) with a full body "360 degree" case. This solves the issues with all SPs losing adhesion at the edges, since the casing clips the TG down all the time.

And I do hate curved screens (including 2.5D) except that the spec-whore satisfaction far outweighs my dislike for the curved screen.

Haha... Ya... True... It's my obsession. LOL!

Well one thing.... No matter how much costly or prestige of the other phone ( kimchi or PRC brand or that fruit phone) can boast , nothing can beat a phone with extra feature like IR.

I like handy stuff to control things.... And I get to impress the chicks too.... LOL
*
I believe that Samsung actually collects usage telemetry data to help them prioritize on which hardware features are used most often and they use that to rank keep or drop for the next model.
I think what they discovered is taht 99.8+% of buyers never used the IR function hence they dropped it. I used the IR function on my earlier devices only a few times.

My case:

Youmaker Pro 360 degree with some no name TG with about 98% adhesive coverage, except for about 1mm all around the edge of the glass. Applied it myself.
You can see a border around the TG, that is the area with no adhesive.

Disclaimer : I like thick protective cases and always advocate such. 3300 vs 150 is a no brainer.

I think this case is about the same size as an Otterbox Commuter, maybe even a little thinner than that.

I also have the hybrid SIM converter which allows me to use 2 SIMs + sdcard simultaneously, and it is nicely covered by the casing.

I must be in the category of only 0.2% pool of ppl who is still (obsessed ) passionate with the (unpopular) IR. LOL

Although I don't use it daily but I treat it like having a first aid kit around.

Comes pretty handy when physical remotes are not near or hard to reach. Eg.... On the bed and the remotes are far too (lazy) to reach.

One time I was staying in a hotel. The remote is not placed in the room. At midnight the room so cold. With the phone IR. i turn up the temp instead of waiting for the reception ppl to come up. It would take a long time waiting. I was able to continue with the sleep without much distruption and inconvenient. And need to properly clothed when the hotel staff comes in. More over if you have your spouse or gf or kids in the room. Inconvenient loh.

One more instances, I was in a small VIP room in a restaurant with 10 pax. The AC was set at the coldest 16c. We called the waiters to come adjust the temperature but no one came. We waited very long. Waiters could have forgotten. And every one was chill to the bones. Lucky I was able to set to 27c with my IR blaster. And we continue with our meeting without shivering.

And I'm not going to elaborate how ( many times) or exaggerate I had impressed the chicks.
I'm sure you guys know the tricks or have tricks of your own up in the sleeve. LOL

Honestly, It's not a must have but it's nice to have.

I'd go without casing for this phone like most phone I use, but the edge display makes me a bit nervous going unprotected with a case lol.

Built in app works fine called Smart Switch.
Contact, photos, calendar, alarms, some past sms and calls. Even does app as well which will be auto downloaded from the Google play store.

SmartSwitch doesn't transfer that but you can use the one mentioned before on PC which should back it up. Or yes backup on iPhone and restore it on Android also works. What I did 4 days ago when I got mine.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the built in app, Smart Switch. I never used it for iOS migration but I read that it works too. Backuptrans was quite some time ago, think 2 years when I used it to transfer from my iPhone 6+. Btw, since it is a paid app, I would suggest you try the Smart Switch. Just plug in your phone and follow the on screen instructions. Good luck.

You only need Smart Switch on your Samsung device and yes you need a PC to transfer so make sure you download the Smart Switch for PC as well.
