Hi all finally got a Note8. Not much time to spend on forum nowadays. It is noticeably smoother than the S8+ I had before.
Has anyone used those cases with a built in screen protector?
I'm considering the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro or the Poetic Revolution. Some youtube vids shows some banding due to the gap but I'm fine with that.
Just wondering if anyone who has used such cases finds if the wireless charging works with the case on?

been a while since i see your post, welcome back to the note family!
i remembered that s-pen was really essential to you, back in the old note 3 days.
*
Haha thanks. Spent almost 2 years without a stylus device after the Note 4. Felt like something was missing.

Anyone using wireless charging here? How was your experience?

Saw one selling Original Samsung Wireless Charger (Fast Charge Mode) [EP-PN920BBEGWW] at 11 street for Rm99 only.

http://www.11street.my/productdetail/origi...rom=cart%5Elist

Anyone using this model? Is it good to use on Note 8? curious why it is so cheap?
*
I'm using the 920 model and it works just fine. The new one should also be good but costlier since it has a slide motion.

Reading you guys about cheap Note 8 made me felt like a garbage now... sad.gif

Also, how many of you guys are using Wireless Charging? If yes, why? Is there any benefit or advantage of using it?
*
Wireless charging saves on the mechanical stress to your charging port and any accidental drops you may experience while connected during charging.

I have seen people who damaged their charging ports and needed to connect the cable at an awkward angle to get the phone to charge.

At any rate it's not a must have but a convenience.

I am also using magnetic adsorption charging cables in an attempt to completely avoid damage to the charging port.

Hmmm...never thought much about the charging port but you got a valid point. Constant usage of charging port may ruin it.

Another question, whatwill happen if you overcharged (100% battery) your phone with wireless charging?

Is this wireless charging original samsung?
*
I'm using the EP-NG930, which is the one in that qoo10 pic, genuine Samsung.

It stops charging and keeps the phone at 100% overnight. While charging the LED is a steady blue, and it turns green when the phone is fully charged.

At that price, it is likely not genuine. Read the comments, the first guy already said it's not genuine but works.

I also have a Choetech charging pad, it will also charge my phone to 100% and keep it there although I never noticed whether the LED changes color since it is used at my work desk.

So does this means it won't be ruining your battery in long run if you forgot to pick up your phone when it reached 100% for overnight?

If yes, then I can see this is actually a good reason for me to get one.
*
I suppose the branded ones have cut off circuitry like a wired charger, I haven't heard of issues with wireless charging in general. I was using wireless charging since my Note 4.

QUOTE(metaled @ Nov 11 2017, 10:44 PM)
I have one unit of fake EP-NG930 that i bought from China. Charging speed is identical to my wife's genuine unit. Only when you convert the stand to standing up, the fake unit feels abit flimsy.

3 weeks in so far so good works like the original unit.
*
EP-NG930 is the one with the fixed angle.

Interesting while checking out youtube: Real vs Fake

read the review and Q&A, not support note 8?
*
Any Qi compatible charger should work, but it would only be slow (the original) wireless charging, at about 500mA or less.

Those which support fast wireless charging go to about 800mA to 1000mA.

Get a reputable brand unit (Choetech, Aukey, Samsung etc) which does Samsung-compatible fast wireless charging.

Easier said than done. There are so many fakes around and for some people, hard for me to know the difference.

So anyone know where to get genuine reputable ones that are cheaper than Samsung's?

EP-PG950 and EP-PG930. Interchangeable for S7 and Note FE and Note 8?

My experience with wireless charger is, they are quite a bit slower than cable.
*
Qoo10 usually has flash sale or bulk orders for reduced price Korean sale units, up to 50% less.
These could be one off offers or special deals in Korea, and the sellers are Korean companies shipping overseas.

Got a few items from such sales including a 28" Samsung monitor.

You should also read the comments by the buyers.

Of course wireless is slower than cable.

A cabled fast charger can put out 20W, whereas a non-fast charge wireless goes about 2.5W to 4W max, a fast charge wireless goes from 5W to 8W.

All the Samsung wireless chargers work on their phones.

In the past I was using the LG-WCP300 with an add on qi receiver for my Note 3 and Note 4.

Thanks for explaining.

If a device is from Korea and may I know what it is different from Malaysian device.

Firmware, S pay Pal,  Telco settings, security & software updates etc etc ?
*
I am not too familiar with Korean devices but I understand that usually it would come from one of their 3 telcos, you must get the unlocked ones, or get a regular Samsung unlocked model.

I bought a Tab A with S pen from Samsung Korea last year when I was there and it was unlocked so it can work here.

The telco models usually have S or T or some suffix to the model number, and you would need to wait for their support teams to release firmware instead of the generic Samsung firmware, and custom ROM support is far less.

I suppose this is due to Koreans junking their stuff regularly, and DIY is not an honored practice there.

There might be restrictions on Samsung Pay but I don't know. I'm using a Singapore set and it works with both SG and MY credit cards.

Lastly, the Korean models get better specs faster.

The high speed LTE models will be for Korea first, and they also get the upgraded models (more RAM/Storage) faster.
One negative for me is that they usually only have the single SIM model. I prefer dual SIM, and with a simple mod I get 2 SIMs + sdcard active at the same time.

I did that before with my Mi Max and it worked.

I then tried it with my Asus ZF3 Ultra but the cavity tolerance was even narrower despite being a much bigger device.

So in the end I got one of those adapters and it works wonderfully.

Tested working on S7e, Asus ZF3 Ultra, S8, S8+, Note8.

As long as it's Qi certified, you can use it inter-compatibility.
Whether it support fast wireless charging that will be another topic.

Yes as long as it is Qi it will charge.

The qi is apply to the wireless charger or the phone itself?
*
Qi is the main wireless charging standard. There was another standard before Qi but I think that one has died out.

There are many Qi based chargers, and Samsung's phones are also based on Qi.

From the S7 onwards, Samsung created their own Wireless Fast Charging standard which is still backwards compatible with Qi.

So you can use any Qi charger with your Samsung, but it will charge much slower.

Thanks for the information. I am glad to hear that.

So all I need to do is just go to Samsung Shop and buy the wireless charger from it and I won't get wrong one, right?
*
If you're getting from a Samsung store, get the one that at least says Fast Charge.

There are 4 models.

2 flat round disks, 1 fixed angle disk and one variable angle one which is the largest.

The flat round disks are the earlier ones, and the first model DOES NOT have "Fast Charge" printed on it. A later model has "Fast Charge".

The fixed angle disk is the one I'm using, and it says Fast Charge. The variable angle one also says Fast Charge if I'm not mistaken.

dual active sim?
*
I am not very certain if it is dual active, but there is an option to be set that allows receiving calls even though I'm in the middle of one.

This indicates that the Note8 is a dual active device. I haven't dug deeper into this but it would be really cool if it were.

Just gotten my Note8 4 days ago, hence trying to participate a bit more here.

I was using the S8+ before this but felt no desire to participate, lol. The S-Pen calls out to me....

I read thru this v5 thread and find these posts seem pertinent.

May I ask why?

QUOTE(emei @ Nov 1 2017, 12:08 AM)
Read all the post in this thread regarding tempered class and screen protector. Here is a small conclusion:

1) Dont use tempered class on note 8 cause it will spoil the user experience
2) Using cheap tempered class because all tc/SP are the same
3) Whitestone dome user - good review so far but expensive
4) X-one - mix of review - some have screen sensitivity issue, edge lift up
5) HAO - mix of review - dust and sensitivity issue.

If you are using tempered class, please copy/reply this post with your answer and comments on how is your experience so far with the SP in term of  sensitivity, dust, and etc and what tempered class you use?
*
I'm using a TG, which I think is full adhesive (or 98% ?) with a full body "360 degree" case. This solves the issues with all SPs losing adhesion at the edges, since the casing clips the TG down all the time.

And I do hate curved screens (including 2.5D) except that the spec-whore satisfaction far outweighs my dislike for the curved screen.

QUOTE(vhs1 @ Nov 6 2017, 08:45 AM)
Haha... Ya... True... It's my obsession. LOL!

Well one thing.... No matter how much costly or prestige of the other phone ( kimchi or PRC brand or that fruit phone) can boast , nothing can beat a phone with extra feature like IR.

I like handy stuff to control things.... And I get to impress the chicks too.... LOL
*
I believe that Samsung actually collects usage telemetry data to help them prioritize on which hardware features are used most often and they use that to rank keep or drop for the next model.
I think what they discovered is taht 99.8+% of buyers never used the IR function hence they dropped it. I used the IR function on my earlier devices only a few times.

My case:

Youmaker Pro 360 degree with some no name TG with about 98% adhesive coverage, except for about 1mm all around the edge of the glass. Applied it myself.
You can see a border around the TG, that is the area with no adhesive.

Disclaimer : I like thick protective cases and always advocate such. 3300 vs 150 is a no brainer.

I think this case is about the same size as an Otterbox Commuter, maybe even a little thinner than that.

I also have the hybrid SIM converter which allows me to use 2 SIMs + sdcard simultaneously, and it is nicely covered by the casing.

Will it be dual active or dual standby? If both SIM has data plan, how do I default it accordingly?
*
This is sort of a "hack" of a single SIM unit into a dual, so it cannot be dual active. Dual active needs 2 radios.

Not sure if it is dual standby unless the phone can recognize both SIMs at the same time, otherwise it is a manual switch using the SIMtoolkit.

For the dual SIM models, it defaults to dual standby but I suspect you can turn on dual active although I haven't tested it.

You could get a dremel tool and make holes in any casing you want. I've been doing that to add lanyard loops to my cases.

And yes, why the heck aren't more casing manufacturers providing a lanyard loop? ! vmad.gif

This means that Samsung knows that the curved screen sux ass. The only reason they did it is because they can, and they are milking it for the aesthetics.
