This would be hard to judge.

First, it's a flat out corner with some liftoff. Lewis had to lift more considering his angle compared to Max. Thus Max thought he could maintained his position with his superior position which allowed him to carry more speed into the corner. However I think he over estimated the gap thus turning into a Mercedes that won't suddenly disappeared. I don't think Lewis is prepared to brake to let him go through nicely because Charles is just behind.

The aerial video showed Max hesitated, let Lewis get alongside, then weave onto the racing line on the outside, and steer sharply into the Mercedes path.

Just rechecked yesterday sprint qualifying.

Yesterday Lewis tried the outside and failed to overtake. Today he tried the inside and get the penalty. Same corner.

I would say that's because carrying more speed but slightly off racing line.

I think Charles played it safe. Rather than losing everything.

Different mentality compared to Max.

I think the only regret in this race is that it's not Max vs Lewis.

However I think he collected himself up really well after that incident.

When Merc dominated, you want they crash or mishaps...

It could go either way. Actually Lewis made 2 similar moves, once during the sprint qualifying and the other on race day. He went outside after Max defended the inside but couldn't overtake. The next day he went inside and the rest is history.

Although Lewis got penalised, I think Max made a misjudgement to turn into the corner, the way he did. I used misjudgement because both cars are side by side with Max being less than half a car just before the turn in. Despite knowing that it's impossible to take the racing line with two cars side by side, he still went for it. Technically its not wrong for him to take the racing line which I agreed but from a risk/reward POV, the risk that he took overweight the reward. Yes, he might have lose a position if he took a more conservative approach, but its just the first lap. Whereas for Lewis, he knew very well what he had to do to prevent Max from running away in first position which is the risk he's willing to take. It's just like many of the overtaking we have seen in the past. Once the pursuer get alongside or make a lunge, the persuer had the benefit of doubt that he will get a penalty if he caused a collision but wouldn't affect his position since he's still behind the car being pursued or get a clean pass due to evasive/preventive action from car in front to avoid an accident.

Sprint race is a double edge sword. If you did well, you could gain multiple places and then some more in the actual race the next day. Sucks if you're Perez though.

Personally I think sprint race idea is interesting but I don't really like it thus far. F1 cars are different compared to F2, and faster cars get the chance to do some damage limitations if you messed up the qualifying. I do support the reduced track running time so that teams can't run too many track simulations.

RBR is losing it...

I think RBR is kidding themselves the longer they delve into the debate. They should focus on winning it. If they could overturn this, imagine what it will be like for future races. Everyone will file for review and revise punishment. Even Max is avoiding the debate which is brilliant IMO. It sucks but move on.

Young racers like MV, Leclerc etc they all built up a reputation for being crazily aggressive which is why others have been taking avoiding actions or didnt race wheel to wheel with them regularly. You dont know when they will explode. However, maybe Lewis aggression might signal a change in the grid. Hope the older guys will give these youngsters a taste of their own medicine.

I think it's different because RBR still trying to change the result of British GP.

Most of the time to reinstate a position due to penalty. I cant remember if appealing for harsher penalty or disqualify a driver that has been penalized during the GP because they think the penalty is too light.

I think RBR will instruct Max to go home and play F1 2020 24/7 to find the perfect spot to lunge into Lewis in Hungary .

Hard to say... RBR is still gentler with tires wear compared to Mercedes. If RBR managed to get pass on first lap then its worth it.
