I took AIME as my chance to practice and train my skills on shooting machines before going to bigger motorshows like KLIMS 08. For the 1st time, i shooting more machines than ladies, maybe there aren't many show girls afterall. Pls kindly give me c&c on this series. I need to get some feedbacks in order for me to learn and improve my shots so i can prepare better for upcoming motorshows and KLIMs 08. Thanks notworthy.gif

if the ceiling is high, you'd need a high powered flash to bounce.
if you bounced your flash to the ceiling and the ceiling is black, the light will not bounce back down.
the color a bit red because the camera compensated the wb to counter the flash light but since the flash didn't reach the subjects in the frame, it becomes red.

usually if i were shooting, i'd turn off the flash, adjust the wb to match, or just do a custom on white object, dail up the ISO and shoot.
if you dun mind can visit my album to have a look.
http://g3k.smugmug.com/gallery/3062365 just hover your mouse over the photo and click on Info for the exif.

Thanks for ur tips. Maybe i wil pm u on this for further discussion, i got some questions on my mind too.

THe compo still need to work out more...coz it doesn't really attract me to stare at it....

Ya lesson learnt. I should have used my kit lens coz i was using my 55-200. Was trying if such lens helps. Looks like my AIME is a failure, but lesson remain learnt. sweat.gif

Thanks smile.gif

VOL 4 - lyvk Ivy
edited to prevent misunderstanding
This round some PP has been done, to adjust the exposure and some adjustment on the saturation, just to make the skin look less reddish. I didnt take much pics of her unlike the other guys, coz too many photologs were busy taking Ivy. This girl is a photographer's magnet, and by looking at those pics u can understand why......

OK.. some comments for yr photo smile.gif

picture 1 - cute pose biggrin.gif
picture 2 - she is burning .. too red .. use color filter in photoshop to adjust back ma
picture 3 - a bit weird of the compo if she is in the center
picture 4 - also a bit weird of the compo. look like center only. why dont shot in vertical
picture 5 - hair potong.. try not to potong, it look nicer for me if no potong
picture 6 - walao .. potong again. but hard to notice also since the background also dark
just my comments for yr photos. if not nice, then jz ignore me. smile.gif

Ok, i just rephrased it, dont wanna mislead everyone into misunderstanding. sweat.gif I'm sorry and i really dont mean it that way. I not a person who can describe things in proper way though. That why i should stay away from PR. sweat.gif

Thanks for ur comments though, but i dont get it why pic no 6 is considered as "potong"?

QUOTE(kjin @ Oct 30 2007, 11:21 PM)
k lah... comment on your ivy series.

1. you cropped her left arm. i can't find any reason to crop off her left arm, coz just a bit more and you'll have her nicely framed ady.
2. skin tone. maybe the red reflection is from my clothes? smile.gif and it's a normal photo loh.. haha nth special. i'm still not sure how to crop someone's chest. your framing seem abit awkward to me, maybe because you cropped off directly at her chest?
3. compo could be better. i think framing her vertically would create more impact... unless if it's your intention at the first place to include klcc and the coconut tree  hmm.gif
4. you said it yourself. compo no impact. too much space on the left and right, but top and bottom framed so tight  rclxub.gif
5. same as bbtat's comment, hair potong
6. potong hair potong arm.. and i have a weird feeling that your focus point is on her fingers. correct me if i'm wrong ya.

i am commenting with the best intention that we learn from our mistakes. i'll try to make mental notes on other people's pics as well, so that i don't make mistakes that other people have done. no offence ya.

well, i have to apologize that you didnt shoot as much as you wanted. i didnt know it would turn into such a huge thing. anyway, lesson learnt from this shoot. no more next time. lol
*
1st of all, thanks for ur comments. smile.gif Most of Ivy's shots were taken while stuck inside the hut when it was raining. That is where i took my oppurtunity to take shots of her. After the rain, when its time for the next round of shooting, it was my own decision not to join bbtat, urself and kensim to take ivy , rather i go ahead and take pics of stephenie, then lyann and faye. Then the rain strikes again which made us to halt the shooting.

So therefore i am sorry if i caused any misunderstanding. I admit i am insensitive at times towards ppl feelings. Anyway, kjinn, i really appreciate ur efforts for organizing such shooting event. Lesson learnt? Do a smaller group and smaller ratio perhaps? tongue.gif

From this series, i learn that vivid will no longer works, perhaps i will need to find my own suitable settings. Compo needs to be worked too. After my series of Stephenie its my time to give my thread some rest. I have no more events to shoot and in a few weeks i will be working on weekends. I will take my "off period" time to see what mistakes i made and also need to learn my flashgun too. Fret not, i believe i will be in full swing by december, u know what event will be brows.gif

Yet again thanks to those has given me useful comments over these pages, and i wasting no time to post pics of stephenie, in the next post! notworthy.gif

QUOTE(ac98 @ Oct 31 2007, 01:50 AM)
Travis ... WHAT is going thru your mind when you're shooting? Based on the images you shot, and it's all the same, you have problem with almost everything, from compo to colour to angle to ... everything.

PLEASE, take it easy and take it slow when you're shooting. You're trying to become somebody you're not when you're seeing everyone moving along so fast. Move towards having your own style and learn to accept AND adapt to changes around you, i.e know the drawbacks of using flash and the advantange of using lower shutter speed and wider aperture, juggle between ISO settings, shutter speeds and aperture settings to get the best exposure ... not just popping up the flash everytime you see there's "not enough light".

Learn to think slow, but act fast. It's the mindset that counts.
*
Its more like what i want to capture the model's impression and posing when she on it. But i dotn quite agree u mentioning i got problem with everything. That statement makes me sounded worse than a ps photographer on.

Still, appreciate ur words, i need to take things slowly which i really agree.

QUOTE(derek87 @ Oct 31 2007, 02:43 AM)
Travis, After browsing ur series of models, i think that u are a better event photographer but there's still a lot of spaces can be improved, especially in WB. As for ur model shootings, they just dun get my votes, the pictures seems like something is missing or something is wrong.. I dont know... June's and Ashley's series seems to be better than this... hmm..
*
Honestly i felt the titiwangsa one is a rush affair, and i was surprised when i have to resort to my flashgun during a bright sunny day. Changing weather conditions didnt help as well. Still it was a good experience but an indication that i need to halt my shootings and learn what went wrong.

Event shoots is where i started my shooting passion but that really what i dont plan to do in long term, exception for major car exhibitions like KLIMS or any future int motorshows. I would want to improve my outdoor model shoots since from these feedbacks stated i need to work even harder. Anyhow thanks for ur feedback too. smile.gif

Photography is not only about expression and posing ... it's about exposure, how you EXPOSE the image, CREATING an image which captures the eyes of the viewer. Work on your exposure, i.e what's the correct colour, White Balance, highlights and shadow. If you notice, 90% of the C&C you got here are based on problems with your choice of colour and exposure, they're either over or underexposed, mostly under exposed. What turns people off is bad exposure and colour, everything else aside. You won't have any problem with colour IF you're using film, haha!
I saying goodbye to vividgraphy for now. Need to find my own settings.

QUOTE
Never EVER shoot in a rush, even a professional will fumble. Shooting in a rush creates tension and stress, which makes things even worst if you're still learning photography. The result? Garbage. Sorry if I am a little hard ... I am telling you all this based on experience so I am firm and confident with what I say, these are not '2 cents' where I just babble without facts and experience ... I've been there, had the worst, and done that.

Give up or not up to them, some people just cannot stand the heat, thanks to the internet. What they can't handle is not the difficulty, but the constant bashing from people who provide C&C. Back in those days when many photographers learnt by heart and by eye ... who the heck needs C&C to improve?

It's all thanks to the internet and so-called free speech. You cakap apa lu suka, gua ambik apa gua suka ... bleh! dry.gif tongue.gif

Its just me that i would like to listen & read from other ppl feedbacks coz i need to know if my pics is acceptable, although it can be difficult as every ppl has different opinions. So far i have not received very harsh and inmature ones like "u suck dude, throw ur camera away or go hand urself" (those are typical kopitiam style comments), and yet i still receive comments on improvement according to their level of experience. I dont find this offending, its more constructive to me. wink.gif
