try this method.. this is through my xperience and until know its still success thumbup.gif

open all both your GPU and CPU heat sink.. clean all the thermal paste then put back a new one. since this GPU and CPU need very good air ventilation, shakehead.gif I just put xtra thermal paste to make sure it contact evenly with both the chip and heat sink. Don't worry if the thermal paste a little way off the chip since thermal paste is not a conductor and will not short any component on board.. but just don't put it too much sweat.gif

FYI 360 have 2 big fan at the back of this console but after several testing and reading throughout internet, I found out it is proven that this two fan didn't suck the correct amount of heat they should suck from both GPU and CPU heat sink. If you look at the white plastic standard fan route design (I dunno what the name it's tongue.gif ) .. its purpose is actually as a route for this 2 fan sucking a hot air out from this 360 unit. But because of the bad design.. the actual result showing the CPU side fan will be much more hotter than the GPU fan. why?? simple.. the position of the GPU itself not redirecting the heat to those fan. and this is not correct. eventhough you can feel that the GPU fan will cooler than the CPU fan.. thats not the way it is.. It supposed to be more hotter than the CPU fan especially when running very high demand picture quality game eg: GOW / forza 2. You can tested by yourself by feeling the hot air after playing gow for about 15-20 minutes. only one of this fan sucking hot air out and it its the CPU fan. What you can do is just to put a separator (I used a thick cardboard) between this two fan so that each fan will suck the hot air from the individual GPU and CPu itself. After I do this, I can feel the GPu fan are more hotter than the CPU fan and this is a good result. Thanks microsft!! doh.gif

The main important thing is.. readjust all your 8 screw which holding the both heat sink to be firmly HAND TIGHT.. DO NOT over tighten or loosen this screw as the pressure play a big role on effecting the bending of the mobo when the temperature became hot.

After finishing all of this, disconnect your fan and turn on your 360. wait until the light became 2ROD (overheat) and let it on 2-3 minute from the light start to showing the 2rod effect. (this to make sure all the solder contact became connected back if they have a dry joint). After that just make sure the system cool by itself then only you can tested it again.

I found all this tut on the internet but forgot where the address its... doh.gif but really hope this help .. after doing this procedure I can play forza2, blue dragon as long as I wanted until this very moment. I also have mod all the fan to have direct 12V all the time and also add 1 xtra fan to blow a air directly to the GPU fan itself. whistling.gif

Silencer, My console first kena 3rod about three month ago.. cannot remember the bloody sad date.. cry.gif then I send to tot for xclamp replacement. survive for about 2 month and then it happen again. this time with all the hatred towards ms for being soouu stupido.. vmad.gif I try to fix it by myself and success sweat.gif . but it only can last for about 1 week . doh.gif I found out the main reason for the 3rod and and then the problem solve by adjusting all the screw pressure and adding xtra fan with all 12v modofication. this time it last untill today.

definetly NOT SOO TIGHT and not too loose... just make sure the screw hold the heatsink firmly enough.

the 12v modification and the added xtra 12v fan with customization heat pipe to blow an air to the gpu indeed proven to revive any 3rod console. My console have been attack 3 times edi and since I done this modification everything seem in good condition. I even can feel the xtra 12v fan suck an air from the top of the console..

you also can improve the standard heat pipe functioning by added a separator in between the 2 fan (the separator in glued to the heat pipe). this alone already improve the air flow inside your 360 thumbup.gif

At least now we all have backup plan after the xclamp replacement fail to solve the problem. flex.gif

rezalida.....pictures speak louder than words.......as most of here have no clue on how to do it....is it a simple or complicated work???

Ok...after some googling...here r several links with pictures for 12v fan mode: -

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=467270

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/i...hp/t535735.html (with videos too...for variable speed with switches..only for PRO)

http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/360-12V-fan-Mod.htm

On the third link..I am pretty excited when I read the following sentence>>> You can also pickup 12V and ground at the DVD drive power cable. If your not comfortable soldering to your motherboard this is a great option

guess...we do have the option if our post xclamp 360 died again...thnx to tot and rezalida...for the idea

silencer, the method is not that hard at all.. the hardest part for me to make the custom heat pipe from the xtra added 12v fan to blow an cold air to the gpu.. sweat.gif I,m using a card box to accomplish that. I will try my best to post my picture but since I didn't have any camera with me for the moment it not possible to do so. As for the 12V fan modification I just did it the same way like the tutorial from the 1st link that you gave. thumbup.gif

Just to give you an an info about the custom heat pipe. most of the mod out there just add the xtra fan without the custom heat pipe.. so I think the air flow from the fan are spread all over inside the unit. The purpose of this heat pipe is to make sure all the air from the xtra 12v fan being direct to the GPU heat sink following the path below the dvdrom. Even the solution that ms try to do by adding the xtra heatsink, I'm personally think that it would not enough to draw all the heat from that monster GPU.. and I agreed with tot that this xtra fan is a must to make the heat from the GPU being blow out from the unit. and I one of the successful survivor by doing this method..

wait for some picture .. I will try my best.. thumbup.gif

As I have promised before, here is the picture of the added 12v fan and also customize GPU heat pipe together with the heat pipe separator: thumbup.gif

this is a picture of a customize heat pipe from top. As you can see the heat pipe is placing directly below the DVDrom path.

here is the picture of the added 12v fan which blow an air directly throughout the heat pipe and the GPU heat sink

user posted image
Here is the original 360 heat pipe for the original fan which I have already added the separator in between.

user posted image
separator top view.. As you can see I used the cardboard because it is more easier to bend it to cilok between those capacitor. tongue.gif

user posted image
As you can see here I have blocked all the possibly air leaking by adding a simple tape on those small gape. And by surprise this also increase the efficiency of the air flow throughout the GPU heat pipe.

placing the DVDrom back and it ready to be back in action! rclxms.gif

This modification is meant for give a direct air to the GPU heat pipe since we cannot mount the fan on top of the heat pipe due to the design of the 360 itself. by doing this, my GPU are now running even cooler than before and this is a good for those extreme graphics like GOW and upcoming bioshock!

hope this picture help you all understand the concept and as I said before the customize heat pipe is the only hardest part in this project. But it comes with a excellent result!! thumbup.gif

rezalid, I think it's better for you to use duct tape instead of masking tape on the top  of the GPU heatsink as duct tape can stand heat better than masking tape. I'm using duct tape to cover any gaps between the original air tunnel and the gpu heatsink.
*
tongue.gif dari dulu aku cari nama benda nih.. bagus gak nama ko bagi nih.. so its officially called air duct tunnel.. thumbup.gif Anyway mmg dulu aku guna duct tape electrical yang warna hitam/merah/biru tu, tapi at one time bila aku bukak habis melekit lekit tape tuh... lepas tu aku perasan dia dah mula merenggang mungkin sebab panas.. tu yang aku xperiment dgn tape nih.. and so far so good. sweat.gif

@silencer, thanks for adding my name at the 1st page, I will try my best to help the community thumbup.gif

reza... now you have to turn on the volume loud.. .because your machine sounds like jet engine already.. kkakak
*
laugh.gif that one is indeed very true! but the noise is still acceptable to my ears and my speaker is actually even more loudly than the fan noise itself every time I play.. tongue.gif And one more important info to whoever want or oledi mod their original fan to 12v.. you will notice the fan keep on on spinning while you doing the background download.. laugh.gif
