If you drop this kind of question in a Civic forum, you already know what answer you're going to get bro.
You should hang out at the Kia Optima forum (if there is one) and ask them too. They're going to say the Optima is the best car built by mankind
Here's an unpopular opinion from me. I got the Honda Civic earlier this year because I was overly calculative and wanted the best bang for the buck. Sure, I was thrilled when I got the car. But after the honeymoon period (which was short I tell you), the initial excitement wore off. From the first week, there was a noise in my suspension. Sent the car in to check and not only was the problem not fixed, now there are 2 noises in my suspension.
So I figure I'd live with it. But not long after, there's a noticeable 'whoom2' noise coming from the wheels. Sent it in again. The SC said they couldn't hear a thing. Here's the thing I don't get from people who defend this as being normal for all cars. (please don't bash me guys, just giving my honest opinion). Sure, every car has problems. But if you receive a spanking brand new car and within a week, there are defects that the service center can't (or won't) fix, then there's definitely something wrong with that car company
It didn't stop there. 2 months ago, my car 'magically' wouldn't start. Called the Honda guys. They came and jump started the car and said it was a fuel pump problem. Sent it in to the SC once again. They said no problem. Just wait until it happens again and they'll diagnose it again. (this was a different service center mind you)
What. The. F*ck?
So here I am, living in fear of the car not starting again. Not knowing when my car won't start again. At the end of the day, no matter how beautiful your car is, you will definitely fall out of love with it once you get that fear deep down inside .. the fear that there will be problems popping up again. Now if Honda has good after sales service and fixed all my problems, I'd definitely still love this car till this very day. But nope. If you browse through the entire forum, all 900 plus pages of it, you will probably find Zero posts of people saying their problems were actually fixed by Honda.
And the problems are no joke. Bumper gaps. Steering rack failures. Fuel pump failures. Suspension noises. Air cond gurgling noises. Bad smells when turning on the aircond. The list goes on.
And here's what makes it worse for me. My wife recently got a spanking brand new Mazda 3. Stepping into it, I now regret that I was so calculative when deciding earlier on. If I'd just splurged a bit more and followed my heart, I'd be smiling every time I step into the Mazda 3. And I know that for a fact because nowadays my wife works from home and I find myself 'borrowing' her car to go to work more and more often now.
Oh and the icing on the cake? My wife's new car wasn't without defects either. Her I-Stop wasn't working from day one. But here's where my regret (for buying the Civic) was further fueled. She sent it into the service center. The guys were baffled and it took them quite long to diagnose the problem. But they got it working at the end of the day, point being, they fixed the problem and explained every step they took. Even apologized and offered her a car wash.
You see the night and day difference here? Honda wouldn't even diagnose my problem, much less fix it.
You have no idea how miserable I felt sitting there seeing my wife so happy that her car was fixed, and then glancing at my own Civic knowing there are defects that will never be addressed
What I'm trying to say here bro, (and I'm going to be really honest with you) if you really love the Civic design and don't mind the heartache of problems cropping up, problems that Honda will probably not fix, then go for it. Otherwise, you might want to go for the Optima. Plus points for that car is, it's a D segment car. Also, it's quite rare on the road so you'll be unique.
Oh, and on a lighter note, if you're already hitting D-segment car pricing, why not top up and get a Mazda 3 instead? You probably won't regret
Seems like u got a lemon car. My 2016 TC after 4.5 years.. other than claimed compressor once... no other issues. No regret. I still enjoy the ride/power everyday and love the design..To me is still look better than the latest mazda 3 sedan & altis. Yes Optima is very rare & unique on the road. Beware that spare parts can be very rare also & warranty claims can be very long. Honda stockiest is everywhere.
Hear more complains on Civic than Altis and Mazda 3? offcourse more bcos civic sell 8times more than new altis / mazda 3. Many Civic owners like me satisfied with their car with minimal/no issues & just keep quiet in this forum.
Just share my experience.
