Looking for open back headphones ranging around 100-200 bucks. Mainly used for synthwave, ambient and piano/string scoring. Need a pair for some quality mixing and mastering sweat.gif Also any shops around KL that might be worth checking out.

Starpicker audio - in my opinion, one of the best headphone seller in town. They also provide unlimited experiences of any headphone you like.

Within that range of budget, you will have very limited choice. I think Sony MDR-XB550APBCE is not a bad choice.

Usually for music production, a neutral sounding headphone is recommended. You can have a look at the Superlux HD668B?

I was actually looking at Superlux HD681. Do you know the difference? The price more or less the same.

imo it's still best to use speakers.
ideally i guess neutral, but as long as u have a reference source to A-B with then generally u should do fine.

u might want to look for closed back,
open back leaks sound, but is really comfortable for long hours.

but for that price u can only get something decent like Roland RH-5
but that is not in the mixing and mastering section.

then agian for 100-200 bucks, u could get something like a Audio tech HM40 or HM50
2nd hand u might get lucky.

those are about 500-700 brand new. but they are real pro headphones, as opposed to Roland RH-5 which are just decent headphones.

I'm not recording vocals plus I do my music in a quiet environment. Need that spacey feel. I ended up getting the Superlux 681HD Evo. Quite happy with it.

Comfy but it gets hot after awhile, if you're ever considering it. Not for long hours wear. Still, I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm able to get what I need for the mixing process.

Yeah, need to do crazy A/B comparison with well published made tracks/songs to get 70%-90% freq curve, by then you can make your custom EQ to make it neutral/flat as possible <<<< cheap poor amateur solution lol

I got it from Stars Picker Audio Cafe. I highly recommend the place. They have quite a lot for you to test and very nice people also. As for the Superlux the lows a little bit boosted. The highs are supposed to be as well, but it's fine to me.

i dont think flat is the solution to it, cause not a lot of systems are flat and a lot of systems that ARE flat tend to sound terrible.

I actually think that using cheap common headphones tend to provide the best result without screwing up with the EQ cause the folks that would listen on it tend to use cheap headphones

a flat very expensive unit like a JH13 i feel is a terrible reference point cause not everyone owns a JH13.

least when i record thats how i feel la, like i put it up to a good system, it sounds amazing, then i put it into my laptop speaker out and it becomes terrible
