dang man, shoulda put huge 'do not use this telco' text on 1st page about this telco.
*
But for those for whom it works (e.g. myself, also others here on this thread) it's great. So much data, and the cheapest way to use Maxis' line (still the best coverage once you take into account congestion, IMO).

Customer support is hit and miss (mostly miss), which is consistently mentioned in this thread. Hence why recommended to port to hotlink before porting in to ookyo, for e.g.

Obviously if I had the same problem you're experiencing with 'base plan' I'd be super pissed as well. Do complain to MCMC also. But take note that most would not encounter such a problem, and that if got no technical issue this is one of the better low-cost options.

Hi guys. I'm a new ookyo user. when the vpn is on, there will be no data transaction at all. when i turn it off, it will be normal. how to solve this cuz i can't use the unlimited data for the 4 chosen apps.
*
Anything special set up on your phone? Custom rom maybe? It should just work, otherwise go to the app and talk to fuzzy, ask to speak to an agent.

QUOTE(kelvinfixx @ Jan 24 2019, 11:29 PM)
Shit I dint read this before porting. I should port to hotlink first.... And I miss the VPN part, now only know it uses VPN for unlimited. sure it will create a lot of problem!
*
VPN is fine, just a bit mafan to turn it off when you using phone for hotspot.

But using VPN will drain your battery faster and slower ping and stream.

How is the port in from u mobile postpaid, if I am not porting in to hotlink first?
*
Have you read their FAQ on battery drain? In my experience not noticeably worst than without VPN.

For gaming I can't comment, but bandwidth isn't affected so videos and content load well. Much better than my congested ex-telcos D and U.

And you should ALWAYS port to hotlink first. Don't take the risk.

Only when using for hotspot. Otherwise the devices on hotspot can't connect to internet.

What's the advantage of signing up with referral code?
*
No advantage for you. It gives escalating benefits to the one whose code you use.

Some just use it as appreciation for those who help people out here by clearing doubt/answering question. E.g. when I ported in I got asrin referral code as he answered questions on this thread to help.

hi everyone here. im currently using celcom and everything is fine  but i saw the ookyo plan and its cheap and im attracted by the 4 apps unlimited data offer! but still concerning. can anyone tell me the user experience about the speed and how to port in from celcom? TQVM.
*
Speed is good (Maxis line) but of course please get a hotlink sim card to test your common areas first. Especially if you're from celcom, cos there's some areas celcom cover where maxis sucks.

There's caps on various things though, so like youtube won't be super high res (I think only 480p speed capped), and some games have complaints of too much lag etc. I don't game so I can't comment. For usage with chat/social apps with big downloads/videos etc. it's very good. Customer service sucks though.

Porting in easiest way is go any Maxis center to port to Hotlink. They'll scan your thumbprint and then give you a simcard with instrucitons. Once you're on hotlink can straight away port to ookyo using ookyo's app.

Hi, can I use this ookyo sim with tp-link mifi? If I purchase unlimited YouTube can I use it with my Chromecast or Apple TV to view it on my TV?
*
No, because you can't run the VPN on the mifi. Anyway tethered connections don't get unlimited.

Using your credit.

*
Nope, spotify uses very little bandwidth even at highest quality so not an issue.

So sad to hear that.... i really need this number back...

hope there is a way to get it back..

Thanks anyway bro
*
Unfortunately really left it way too long. Not just ookyo but any telco would have cancelled the line di unless they have some special long-term service agreement.

In future if trying to keep line active try for unifi mobile (line active based on last usage date, so just send an SMS every month) or those MVNOs with long validity period.

Can ookyo wallet be top up with lazada top up service?
*
'wallet'? You can top up credit to ookyo, yes, but the main RM30 (+6%) per month must be paid by CC. The top up credit is for buying add-ons only.

ookyo have customer help hotline number or not in case they do not take action if report via their app?

No.

QUOTE(AmIRight? @ Feb 8 2019, 10:58 AM)
currently i'm using celcom prepaid. every month i will top up rm50.
1- rm30 is for monthly internet (5gb for a month + 15gb for initial 3days)
2- the balance rm20 is for normal call and sms

by comparing what i listed above to ookyo, what are the cons and pros celcom prepaid vs ookyo. mostly i use phone to open lowyat forum and reading email.
*
With ookyo you will pay RM31.80 (30+6%) for 8GB data (promo, will be down to 5GB after March, maybe).

You can add on another RM8 (no 6% charged on this) for unlimited call/SMS. This amount comes from hotlink-style topup (meaning can buy from Lazada or any hotlink top-up vendor like 7-11).

Total spend RM39.80 per month. If 5/8GB is not enough, there are add-ons, but those add up the cost really quickly. Currently its:-
RM7 for 1 week 1GB
RM3 for 1 day 2GB
RM1 for 1 hour 500MB

So the best way to use ookyo is to take advantage of the 4 unlimited apps. Unfortunately if all you do is open lowyat forum and read email, there's no way to do that. Then again if that's all you do I don't think you ever use 5GB a month....

Most importantly though you should test the maxis line in your area. Any time you consider changing telco must test that first. Get a cheap hotlink sim card to test (or borrow from someone).

I wanna ask if it is really worth switching. I see reviews many people complaining and giving 1 star...is it really that bad?

Yes it's very bad. Please don't use it whistling.gif people who give 1 star ratings are all correct. Just ignore all the comments/advise given in this thread, not reliable one, better trust the google play reviews.

Does the VPN drain batt? Planning to try...
*
QUOTE(DCXW @ Feb 12 2019, 09:51 PM)
It does drain. About 10% overnight.
*
They have an FAQ on the site which explains it. In my experience (and other users here) it doesn't really drain more than your phone would normally drain. I've used it on an old XiaoMi and old Samsung with dying batteries when I was just switching from Digi, and battery life did not reduce noticeably.

If Maxis connection is poor then it will drain a lot as your apps keep trying (and failing) to connect, but this is not different from normal battery drain with poor data.

Funny that Ookyo did not develope VPN for iOS to capture this market.

Ookyo is for budget user. iPhone, not so much. Also, iOS is much more restricted than Android, it's possible that the sort of VPN they're using simply not allowed on app store.

so far ookyo is best for those who want budget andriod user. but the roaming is not good rate. i miss my digi infinite. if not the coverage not good at my house i would have choose digi infinite, cause i spend like 50% everymonth oversea
*
If you're 50% overseas every month it makes sense to have separate simcard just for overseas. I'm hardly overseas so I don't even bother to check ookyo's roaming rate, but my last trip I was still on digi. Best rate!
