No.

First of all, the phone market is very competitive and your argument's only valid if its monopolized by one or two players.

Think Apple or Samsung too expensive?

Then just get some cheap china phones..there's plenty of choices for every budget. Heck there's even companies targeting "flagship specs" for mid range price.

Moving up price segments gives the brands room/margin to breath and add new features which eventually trickles down to lower price segments.

As for brand loyalty... not really. Consumer brand loyalty these days has been lowest in history.

Good points. But too bad, brand loyalty does indeed apply to a significant number of consumers. Apple users are the main culprit, then comes Samsung. I've seen people complaining about apple decision to release ip8 and X at the same time while upping the price of the X, but in the end still got the X because...and I quote...no choice. Samsung users tend to stick to Samsung because Chinese brands cannot be trusted and you rarely see them switching over to LG or another brand. That said, it's easier for Samsung users to migrate to another brand. So, I feel that the apple users are the one caged in. Apple releases a new iPhone, and if their current one is too old, they don't have a choice, they have to get the new phone.

What youve just said is true. I was considering getting a phone during 11.11 but just decided not to. I guess ill keep my iphone 5S for a few more months until i see another great deal.

Late to the party and I know I'm necro'ing an old thread, but thought it's worth commenting here rather than start a new thread.

Already boycotted flagships ever since prices shot up to more than RM 2k. At the current price of RM 3k - RM 5k, I don't really find it worthwhile to spend so much money on a smartphone when at that same price, you can already get a mid to high-spec laptop and desktop PC. Quite ridiculous if you ask me, but many of them who bought at that price thinks otherwise.

I'd rather wait until the price drops to half or below that after a year or more, then I'll be willing to consider it.
