Apple, Samsung, and Google will each be offering you a variety of ways to spend MYR 4k on your next phone. Why Samsung thinks it can get away with the escalation in price.

The three key factors are that
(a) it’s not a huge rise from last year’s Note model,
(b) it’s padded out with immediate bundles and sweeteners that get you extras like a DeX desktop dock, and
© Apple’s making the same move, which normalizes it.

For Apple, the iPhone X’s OLED screen from Samsung is surely a pricey component, especially when you consider Samsung’s likely reluctance to share an exclusive piece of hardware (no one else does bezel-less OLED of this quality, not even LG) with its biggest mobile rival. And as to Google and its new Pixel XL? I’m not going to prejudge that product, though it too is expected to have a hard-to-manufacture OLED display with reduced bezels.

The unifying threads between the three companies pushing past the MYR 4k marker are the desire to have an unmatched display (however briefly) and the depth of brand goodwill to convince consumers to come along for the ride. The loyalty of iPhone users is legendary, rivaled only by the degree of dependence that most of the world has on Google apps and services. And with Samsung having sold a few hundred million smartphones of its own, many people have grown attached to that brand too. To push people to spend more than they’ve previously been comfortable with, a strong brand is essential.

Very true. Apple is just an over-hyped product. Unless your house is fully equipped with apple products, your iPhone is just like any other phone. Branding and status.

I usually use low-end phones like xiaomi brands because no purpose using an expensive phone when you get almost the same quality. Nowadays difference comes in the screen and camera, which I find no purpose. It's not like having an OLED screen phone will make your movies more exciting. In fact, I'd rather spend the money to watch a movie in the cinema. They add a little of upgrade specs, then charge u more. IPhone and Samsung is just branding and luxury product that doesn't give you too much from the previous one.

The point is, consumer keep on buying those product, thus they continue innovate and increase pricing. If none or little of us buy them, they will start to looking into cheaper phone.

And the point of consumer buying is because it's an overhyped product. Apple makes ppl think using Apple product upgrade their status. And when u wear apple watch u suddenly became got standard. It's seriously laughable.

Well they managed to create that mindset. Even Samsung too. They managed to penetrate users mindset.

even Pixel are doing the same..

And that can't be allowed to continue.

Seriously, we should all start a trend in whatever way we can. Whether it's convincing our own family members, Facebook guys, old friends from whatsapp......

.....  anyone and anything we can and will do in our own power to convince people to stop buying new phones that's above RM2500 or without a headphone jack.

Hopefully a celebrity will pick this up and make it even more popular.

The big companies will never listen to us alone or with a few guys, but a whole community or a trending social media trends like that, they MUST listen to us all or we will never buy or encourage other people to buy from them again.

A threat is useless if none of them are followed through. (Just look at a certain crook in our country)

They won't listen to reason but they will be when it starting to effect their own wallets.

I will do my part, but if all these talking is just some "hangat-hangat taik ayam" thing then this all ends here in this thread, never to be spoken again.

The bigger the things we want, the more hard work and the sacrifices needed you know?

No such thing as a free lunch.

How expensive it is, consumers will still buy a new phone. Just a matter of now or never. Some might save up to buy a flagship, some might settle for a mid-entry.

But thats only started since this year right? Anyhow, i dun feel worth it even with tax rebate. With rm7500 brp rebate u can get? Then u minus off ur flagship phone price with the rebate u get and what will be the final price of ur smartphone. Assuming all the rebate goes to ur smartphone.

You think its expensive cause the Ringgit is garbage.

Not to mention overseas their phone + line package is MUCH more attractive compared to what Malaysia is paying for.
