Its actually good that phones are overpriced (the high end ones) as this gives manufacturer money to innovate such that their mid range phones can be sold to the generally public at reasonable price.

QUOTE(endymeon @ Sep 21 2017, 11:50 AM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Apple, Samsung, and Google will each be offering you a variety of ways to spend MYR 4k on your next phone. Why Samsung thinks it can get away with the escalation in price.
The three key factors are that (a) it’s not a huge rise from last year’s Note model, (b) it’s padded out with immediate bundles and sweeteners that get you extras like a DeX desktop dock, and © Apple’s making the same move, which normalizes it.
For Apple, the iPhone X’s OLED screen from Samsung is surely a pricey component, especially when you consider Samsung’s likely reluctance to share an exclusive piece of hardware (no one else does bezel-less OLED of this quality, not even LG) with its biggest mobile rival. And as to Google and its new Pixel XL? I’m not going to prejudge that product, though it too is expected to have a hard-to-manufacture OLED display with reduced bezels.
The unifying threads between the three companies pushing past the MYR 4k marker are the desire to have an unmatched display (however briefly) and the depth of brand goodwill to convince consumers to come along for the ride. The loyalty of iPhone users is legendary, rivaled only by the degree of dependence that most of the world has on Google apps and services. And with Samsung having sold a few hundred million smartphones of its own, many people have grown attached to that brand too. To push people to spend more than they’ve previously been comfortable with, a strong brand is essential.
Read more here Agree? No. First of all, the phone market is very competitive and your argument's only valid if its monopolized by one or two players. Think Apple or Samsung too expensive? Then just get some cheap china phones..there's plenty of choices for every budget. Heck there's even companies targeting "flagship specs" for mid range price. Moving up price segments gives the brands room/margin to breath and add new features which eventually trickles down to lower price segments. As for brand loyalty... not really. Consumer brand loyalty these days has been lowest in history.

I only buy what I can afford....full stop. What others buy is not my concern. If you can only afford a phone worth RM 500, there are plenty of phones within that range. So the choice is yours.

That is what happen when people relates phone with status.
I agree with ur statement ts. Got only minor improvement yearly, yet people still buy.
Especially on iphone. I cannot brain customer change phone every year.
Ya, I know their money. Up to them la to buy. But still the obsession to get newer and latest smartphone is topkek behavior.

Not a bad trend I would say. Invention need money and there must be someone who pay for it. Later the technology will be move to mid range and the process restart again.
If you have cash you can go ahead buy flagship and if less cash in hand you can always look for decent mid range. So I don't see any issue here.

Indeed no issue here, but still we are the one who drive the rising of the product price.
It similar to increasing petrol price, if you can't afford it don't complaint about it. If you are unable to afford the price go take the public transport despite it may that much more time.
Item price is rising, it's ok, you can choose to eat cheaper things like bring your own lunch. It really not an issue.

QUOTE(endymeon @ Sep 21 2017, 02:16 PM) The point is, consumer keep on buying those product, thus they continue not innovate and increase pricing. If none or little of us buy them, they will start to looking into cheaper phone. Fixed. I agree with this term but not so for the fan boys

Im actually thinking of getting the S9 but i am worried about the price. Samsung usually sell their phones a little cheaper than iPhone. But with iPhone x reaching 5900, I am worried that the Samsung 9 will be at lease rm5k

But with iPhone x reaching 5900, I am worried that the Samsung 9 will be at lease rm5k with current situation, it is always unwise to get the latest phone during launch. It is much cheaper to get it after half year or maybe get S8 when S9 is out. Even now you can get S8 as low as MYR 2349 during the 11.11 sales.

I guess ill keep my iphone 5S for a few more months until i see another great deal.
