gee wiz man... thts a tough 1 , lol
Well there are two types of acoustic guitar , nylon string and steel string guitar. Nylon string guitar is for classical and flamenco type of music while the steel string guitar is for the more popular styles like american blues , folk , country , and acoustic rock \m/( As for electric guitars , they are they mainstay for rock , pop , jazz , blues and others. It is a sensible choice to start on acoustic guitar since it helps you to focus on playing with a real sense of touch and develop solid fingering technique. You will learn how to play cleanly. However , if you are interested with music with electric guitars in it and you want to join a band eventually , electric guitar is recomended. More variety of sounds and effects can be obtained with electric guitar and some add ons . It is also easier to play an electric guitar than an acoustic guitar as in barre chords and all that . If you have the time and you want real solid foundation , start off with the acoustic guitar first , build up finger strength and sense of touch . If you are rich , buy both electric and acoustic guitar lol Hope tht helps... please correct me if im wrong |

Prefer my strat if you're talking about those old school electric guitars with pups with a hollow body then those guitars are more for Jazz. . . but then again it's difference is the tone. . . and some people use them to play amazing rock and metal music. . . all depends on your tone preference. . .hollow tend to give a wider and more rounder rich full sound. . . very much jazzy and more to the low and mids. . . |

yea it's good but you must play around with it. . . still i think this is more suited for acoustic clean stuff. . .
yet don't be fooled. . .Al Di Meola uses Ovation and he runs it through a Roland GK pup with GR-20 synths. .. sounds amazing. . .it's just that you have to use your ear and find wats right for you =) |

Um, semi true.
An acoustic guitar and electric guitar has generally the same "style" of playing, but for electric (especially with distortion), you'll need to learn how to control the distortion and tones of your guitar. For an acoustic, you'll really need to learn how to "dig-in" your fingers to produce the tone, as compared to an electric guitar where all you basically need to just touch the strings to produce tone. But of course, acoustic also has a more natural or harmonic sound that somehow the electric guitar can never replicate (Piezo pickups? Maybe.... Semi-Hollow WITH piezo? Possibly.... but still not close). And of course, don't expect to play whammy bar dive bombs and Van Halen tapping or Death Metal grind on your acoustic either...... |

but, its always better to start out with an acoustic..
it teaches u all the basics.... u have to learn to walk before u can run... by playing acoutic, u learn the proper fingering techniques as well as how to press on the strings as like what blacktrix said... i find alot of people who jump straight to electric, then to use the distortion as sort of a coverup... Because with distortion, u don't really have to be THAT precise in the notes u pick/pluck especially if you're playing mainstream nonsense which is basically a few power chords repeated over and over again. But to really mvoe on to another level, u always have to go back to the basics. also, i've seen people who claim they've played the electric guitar for 6 years... ask them to show u a C chord, they give u that *what the F**K is that ?* look... people like that do exist.. they rely solely on tabs and nothing else... acoustic and electric are two different instruments that share the same....form....if that makes any sense. Although the chords are the same, the techniques involved in playing are totally different. I found that out when i made the transition from acoustic to electric. That i was just strumming way too hard and producing alot of unwanted noise. They're both totally different instruments although still guitars.
You can start out on electric too. But it would be advisable to turn off the OD when you practice your rudiments. Like most people would say, OD hides alot of stuff and if you rely on it too much your playing becomes sloppy. Although it's fun to play sloppily with OD on because you'll still sound good although you're playing crap |

trust me...
we always think that once we finish school then we go on our 'musical' journey. chances are after that we'll be too busy and things will never get done Added on April 18, 2007, 7:16 pm QUOTE(valkyrie1232 @ Apr 18 2007, 07:01 PM) And then you have people who claim they've played the electric guitar for 6 years...ask them to show u a C chord, they show you a sweep arpeggio! haha!
