Hello,
so i'm international student and have AIA personal medical card.
after i submit my application to AIA they send me conditional approval (if i agree to the exclusion, i'm covered).
the exclusion says:

DUO TO COMPANY RULE, A-LIFE MED REGULAR AND A-PLUS MED BOOSTER ARE LIMITED TREATMENT WITHIN MALAYSIA ONLY.

i travel often outside Malaysia and have travel insurance BUT, in travel insurance if injury happens overseas they might treat me where i got injured cover by them, or they might evacuate me to my country of residence (malaysia in my case ) to receive treatment and to be paid by MY LOCAL INSURANCE, which is AIA.

my question is, does this exclusion mean i cant use AIA insurance to pay the cost of treatment in overseas hospital only? or does it mean i cant use it even in Malaysia if the injury occurs overseas?

i called AIA like three times and they said i cant use the card only since no one accept it overseas but i can submit receipts and claim after i return to malaysia, which they misinformed me i guess because the exclusion is clear about this side.

thank you

I'm no expert on this, but based solely on what you wrote "......limited to treatment within Malaysia only......", it is pretty clear that the exclusion is for treatment outside of Malaysia.
The location of injury occurrence is irrelevant.
As long as the medical treatment is performed within Malaysia, it should be covered.

And I think you're right, the exclusion is pretty clear that your coverage is not valid for any treatment outside of Malaysia, so you cannot submit receipts to claim, if you were treated overseas.

As a foreigner applying for a Malaysian class health insurance policy, the treatment is restricted to MY hospitals only.

If you go overseas, then it is not covered, irrespective of whether you pay and claim.

All Malaysian Class health insurance cannot be swiped overseas as the panel hospitals are only limited to the hospitals in Malaysia. Your premiums paid are also in MY, not US/UK.

You need to inform the Customer Service that you are a foreigner residing in Malaysia.

Initially it was covered (reimbursed in RM based on customary charges as being charged in Malaysia) but there were one too many cases where foreigners chose to return to their country after making the claim and lapse the policy.

Hi,

The exclusion is quite straight forward, all claims for treatment can only be claimed within Malaysia. There won't be any pay and claim when you do any treatment outside of Malaysia.

Yes, in this case you can claim if you're injured overseas and come back to Malaysia for the treatment.

This exclusion is only applicable to foreigners who apply for the insurance within Malaysia. Not towards Malaysian.

Eh so, let say i have accident.. so i bought ticket to go back early and have further treatment in Malaysia.

The insurance will cover only once I am in Malaysia, or can i claim the ticket & spending as well?

This is only claimable if you bought a travel insurance, don't mix up travel and medical by itself.

so since i have travel insurance as well, if injury happens overseas, the travel insurance will evacuate me to malaysia and then AIA will handle the medical charges within malaysia...Correct?

one last thing, where i can find what kind of sports are excluded from aia policy? because i know diving is excluded from most of insurance companies but when i called aia, they said its not excluded but we might or might not cover you depending on the accident. which is not an answer.

Any involvement in dangerous sports such as mountain climbing, scuba diving, motorcar racing, bungee jumping, parachuting, and the list is not exhaustive depending on new sports being invented by people nowadays.
