My first foray into TV boxes. Planning to get a TX3 Mini. Any recommended local seller for TX3 Mini with Android 7?

this box is probably the best one u can start with.

it is cheap, has all the essential features and works fine for online streaming.

it is only when u r seeking the very advanced features that it is lacking... for that u need to spend 3, 5, 10, 20 times more.

My main objective is to run AOTG. Not for my own consumption but for my upcoming rental place. Will probably be getting a cheap sub RM1500 Philips 50” to go with it.

I’ve read practically the entire thread. The TX3 is just perfect cost wise. Just not clear whether I should get an Android 7 or an Android 8 TX3. Does that still matter?

tx3mini owners, be very careful with trying to change the firmware!
i had the honor of bricking my unit TWICE  but it's all good now.

in the process of upgrading, i encountered severe problems... read and read until i found a solution.
the trouble is this: there are several variations "TX3 Mini"... tx3 mini, tx3 mini-A, tx3 mini-L, etc...
some firmwares CANNOT be applied on the wrong model.
my unit is labeled tx3 mini-A at the back.

initially, i used the ZIP method to upgrade to TX3 Max Version 20180321 zip - the box bricked.
used burning tool to flash with 20180321 img - burning stuck at 7%, no good.
the life saver was THIS, a big THANK YOU!:
burned it with TX3Mini-20181210.img first to breathe life in it again.
then use zip method, upgrade to tx3maxp281-ota-20181101.zip

how diff is tx3max 20180321 firmware from 20181101, i have no idea.
but what i now have is excellent:

.. Alice UI.
.. root closing option in settings remains.
.. auto framerate switching now works better, can see 24, 25, 30 hz message popping up on the TV.
.. lossless audio is obtained with kodi player - dtshdma, ddtruehd.
.. astrogo, unifi playtv work fine once u close root.
.. (i can safely say tx3max should be an excellent value box.)

for those wanting to change firmware, please be careful, know what u r doing... if not, u lose the box!

frankly, i tried quite a few things... don't even remember where i got some of those zip's and img's...!!

I just got the mini-A box [android 7] from the infamous seller in Shopee...my main usage will be playtv and sports live 'ahem' streaming...is it advisable to update the firmware like you did?
I'm concerned that I may screw this up as this is my first box...

yes, i am using tx3max firmware on my tx3mini.

but, please read up and not get caught in a bind where u feel like a brick...

TX3 Mini arrived.

- It's model Mini-A
- Android 8.1
- Has Close Root in settings
- Bluetooth working, tested with Logitech K380
- ethernet port seems not working, running on wifi now. I think it sees my 5Ghz wifi, will confirm later.
- UniFi PlayTV is working
- AOTG not tested yet, forgot my password
- Youtube OK
- Netflix OK
- Kodi dunno how to use
- many other apps installed. Tested one, forgot name, which has local TV channels, etc...
- still a bit blur on how to the thing

kodi was a beast that roared until a couple of years ago.
it is a platform where u build the addons (addon is like an app).
due to copyright issues, court cases in europe/usa, few owners dare put their addons there anymore.
there are still some addons u can try but they usually come n go, live and die quick.
still, it has one of the best playback player feature - for playing back yr own saved videos on hdd.

Haven't really looked into it yet but installed a few addons/sources and saw Joker in there. Didn't try playing yet.

I got a cheap Philips 4K 50" TV and surprisingly the TV plays 2160p h265 mkvs from a thumbdrive with no problem.
