QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Sep 30 2017, 12:20 AM) Some of these commentators have agendas. I followed UK defence issues closely for past couple of years. Tabloids like Sun or especially Daily Mail will drill in on some small thing and blow it out of proportion. its them british they will keep using it until the end their useful life even if it would give them thousands of problems For example, the Royal Marines were kept in Afghanistan precisely because their Broncos were so useful, otherwise they would have been kicked out as land ops is totally out of their remit. Almost every gear the NATO forces used in Kuwait, Afghan, Iraq etc have temperature and sand issue, its a known downside of bringing their Cold War-optimised equipment to desert environment. That's why Arab variants of the same hardware have lots of modifications after all. Another example is the hoo-ha kicked up over HMS Ocean being sold off. Ocean is the flagship yes but she is at the absolute end of her useful life as she is built to commercial standards. QE is going to replace her anyway. Its all in the plans. Just that the tabloids want to make a fuss... last week they complained the Broncos are being sold off, this week they complain its defective the broncos were made for a very specific mission profile and the royal marines will go back to using their old vikings albeit with a more updated armor protection |

QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Sep 30 2017, 02:08 AM) Not with Ocean, internally its practically falling apart, they bought it to close the flat-top gap these few years and they will stick to it. QE will be available shortly anyway. with QE-class being commissioned there is no longer a need for hms ocean and the budget constraint sealed her fateBronco, Viking, Warthog, which the hell is it actually sad cuz its a relatively young ship but its gonna be retired next year and sold off to brazil at a huge discount whatever rocks yer boat my fren |

QUOTE(KLboy92 @ Sep 30 2017, 08:35 AM) Lol I didn't know... patutlah the warthogs is exactly thatViking actually has a great combat record, mainly cause their tracks allowed them to off-road and avoid IEDs where the MRAPs couldn't. Up-armouring them would have been pointless as it would remove that advantage. an up-armored vikings lel |

more ship collision
this time taiwan navy unlucky twice in one day QUOTE ![]() Taiwan Investigates Two Warship Collisions On Monday morning, the Taiwan Navy suffered two separate collisions involving its Keelung-class destroyers. At 0735 hours, the fishing boat Chin Fu En collided with the destroyer Keelung at the entrance to the port of Suao, damaging the boat's stern. Taiwan's minister of national defense, Feng Shih-Kuan, alleged that the collision resulted from a local custom in which fishing boats "race the bow" of larger vessels. Less than an hour after the first collision, the chemical tanker Everrich 3 struck the stern of the destroyer Tso Ying, which was moored at a pier in Kaohsiung. Photos show that the collision caused minor damage to the destroyer's weather deck and hull on the port quarter. The Everrich was reportedly loaded and was shifting between piers within the harbor at the time of collision. No pollution or injuries were reported. The Taiwan Navy has called on civilian maritime authorities to investigate the Everrich 3 collision, and it has placed all of its vessels on high alert as a precautionary measure. Taiwan's four Keelung-class destroyers are the former U.S. Navy Kidd-class destroyers. The vessels were built by Ingalls Shipbuilding between 1978 and 1982, and were originally intended for the Shah of Iran's navy – a contract that ended abruptly after the Iranian Revolution in 1979. Ingalls completed the vessels for the U.S. Navy instead. After their career in American service ended, the ships were upgraded and transferred to Taiwan under a foreign military sales program. http://maritime-executive.com/article/taiw...ship-collisions |

hmm.. why?
QUOTE ![]() Indonesia to demand answers after military chief denied U.S. entry JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesia intends to send a diplomatic note to the U.S. secretary of state and summon Washington's deputy ambassador in Jakarta to explain why the head of its military was denied entry to the United States, an Indonesian official said on Sunday. Indonesia's Armed Forces Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo was about to board a flight on Saturday when the airline informed him that U.S. authorities had denied him entry, according to Indonesian media reports. Nurmantyo was going to the United States at the invitation of General Joseph F. Dunford Jr., chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and a former head of the U.S. Marine Corps, according to the reports. He was also due to take part in a forum organised by the Center for Strategic & International Studies in Washington on Monday. Arrmanatha Nasir, a spokesman for Indonesia's foreign affairs ministry said that Nurmantyo had informed the ministry of the entry denial but the spokesman could not confirm details. "After receiving that information, our foreign affairs minister has asked our ambassador in Washington DC to send a diplomatic note to the U.S. secretary of state to ask for clarification," he said. The ministry will also summon the U.S. deputy ambassador in Jakarta on Monday to seek explanation, Nasir said, adding that the ambassador is presently not in Indonesia. The U.S. embassy in Jakarta did not immediately respond to questions about the incident. Nurmantyo has frequently courted controversy in Indonesia because of his actions and what analysts perceive as his political ambitions. The general promotes the notion that Indonesia is besieged by "proxy wars" involving foreign states and even a renewed communist threat. Indonesian President Joko Widodo said this month that the armed forces should stay out of politics and ensure their loyalty is only to the state and the government. Indonesia, the world's biggest Muslim-majority country, generally enjoys good ties with the United States although in the past ties between the two countries' armed forces have been strained by alleged rights abuses involving Indonesia's armed forces.
