No doubt, Camby, it definitely must be you. Suddenly thinking of Camby make me feel that the Denver Nuggets is one hell of a team. If only they have more time to coordinate themselves with AI, i am sure they might juz be 1 of the NBA Champions title contender... oh wait....

are they already one right now?! biggrin.gif tongue.gif

Gordon, McGrady Named NBA Players of the Week
The Chicago Bulls' Ben Gordon and the Houston Rockets' Tracy McGrady were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, April 9 through Sunday, April 15.

Gordon averaged 24.3 points, 4.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds in helping Chicago to a 3-0 week. He tallied 23 points and seven assists in a 98-69 win over New York on April 10 and registered 30 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 101-68 win at Washington on April 15.

McGrady averaged 28.0 points, 7.3 assists, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals in helping guide Houston to a 3-0 week. He scored 27 points, including 21 in the first half, and added five rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 95-90 win at Seattle on April 9. He notched 32 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals in a 99-95 win at Portland on April 11.

Here is a closer look at the week for Gordon and McGrady:

Here are my top five candidates for the Most Improved Player:
1. Kevin Martin, Sacramento
2005-06 statistics: 10.8 PTS, 3.6 REB, 1.3 AST, 0.8 STL
2006-07 statistics: 20.4 PTS, 4.3 REB, 2.2 AST, 1.2 STL
I had Martin on my radar early in the season when he started off the season with 12 straight games of 15-plus points. Martin continued his production all year, netting 10 30-plus point games including a career-high 40 against the Wizards on Dec. 21. The third-year rail-thin guard out of Western Carolina with the '90s haircut and the funky jumper made a name for himself around the league as the other K-Mart and as the other Ohio native tearing up the league while wearing No. 23. He led the Kings in scoring on a team that features big names like Mike Bibby, Ron Artest, Brad Miller and Shareef Abdur-Rahim. The award belongs to Martin.

2. Monta Ellis, Golden State
2005-06 statistics: 6.8 PTS, 2.1 REB, 1.6 AST, 0.6 STL
2006-07 statistics: 16.7 PTS, 3.1 REB, 4.2 AST, 1.7 STL
Even if Ellis doesn't win the Most Improved Player, at the very least his stellar play this season has prompted everybody to properly pronounce his name MON-TAY instead of MON-TUH. The 6-3, 175-pound guard got the league's attention with his slam against the Suns in November, to his buzzer beater on the Nets in January all the way to his throw down in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge in February. Ellis had just one year of post-high school experience coming into this season with Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Dajuan Wagner and Anthony Roberson all on the roster. Despite the competition, Ellis shined whether it was in a starting role as he did for 51 games or coming off the bench which he did 24 times.

3. Andre Iguodala, Sixers
2005-06 statistics: 12.3 PTS, 5.9 REB, 3.1 AST, 1.6 STL
2006-07 statistics: 18.2 PTS, 5.7 REB, 5.7 AST, 2.0 STL
Iguodala's body size and athleticism often draws comparisons to Scottie Pippen and when Allen Iverson skipped town, Iggy made like Pip did in 1993-94 in his first season out of Michael Jordan's shadow. The third-year swingman had a coming-out party since the All-Star break, helping the 76ers to a 17-10 record and dominating games on both ends of the floor. About the only thing that didn't go his way since the New Year was his iron man streak coming to an end at 232 games when he sat out against Charlotte on March 23 with back pain.

4. Al Jefferson, Boston
2005-06 statistics: 7.9 PTS, 5.1 REB, 0.5 AST, 0.8 BLK
2006-07 statistics: 16.0 PTS, 10.9 REB, 1.3 AST, 1.5 BLK
Boston fans haven't had much to get excited for this season with perennial All-Star Paul Pierce missing a chunk of games and the team stumbling to a 23-57 mark, but Jefferson's play gives the Celtics faithful a beacon of hope. Big Al put it all together during the month of March when he played 15 games and scored 20-plus 11 times and grabbed double-digit boards 10 times. In just his third year out of high school, the 6-10, 256-pound Jefferson makes you believe that he has just scraped the surface of how good he can really be.

5. David Lee, Knicks
2005-06 statistics: 5.1PTS, 4.5 REB, 0.6 AST, 0.4 STL
2006-07 statistics: 10.7 PTS, 10.4 REB, 1.8 AST, 0.8 STL
Lee was the last pick in the first round of the 2005 draft but easily outperformed half the players selected before him this season. The second-year forward out of Florida had 29 double-doubles in 58 games played this season. Like Ellis, Lee just flat-out played no matter if it meant he was starting as he did 12 times, or coming off the bench which he did on 46 occasions. Unfortunately a right-leg injury pulled the plug on Lee's season as he only played in three games from Feb. 25 on. Lee's workman-like contributions on a team full of max-contract millionaires cannot be overlooked.

How about u guys???Let's discuss it.

Six man
A good sixth man is to a team as a good change of clothes is to an awards show host. The same way that new digs can give the host a fresh look, a quality sixth man can breath new life into a team and bring a facet of play to the court that the squad doesn't have at the opening tip.
The last two winners, Mike Miller and Ben Gordon, were honored mainly because when they entered the game they immediately gave their teams an outside-scoring threat.

Corliss Williamson, in 2001-02 with Detroit, and Anthony Mason, in 1994-95 with New York, were awarded the distinction based on the toughness that they provided when inserted into the lineup.

Detlef Schrempf earned back-to-back awards in 1991 and '92 because of his overall contributions on both ends of the floor.

No matter what style of play you bring, the only rule you must follow in order to be eligible for the award is that you have to sub in the game more times than you start it.

Here are my top five candidates for the Sixth Man Award (stats through April 17):

1. Leandro Barbosa, Phoenix
2006-07 stats: 18.0 PTS, 2.6 REB, 4.0 AST, 1.2 STL, .475 FG
The defining play in Barbosa's season came on Jan. 2 with the Suns playing in Chicago and trailing by two in the closing seconds. Instead of going inside to All-Stars Amare Stoudemire or Shawn Marion to try to tie the game, or having back-to-back MVP Steve Nash try to create something outside, the ball went to Barbosa with 1.5 seconds left who nailed the three to lift Phoenix to victory. What does this little anecdote illustrate? That Barbosa is a superstar substitution. As I pointed out in my column last week, the fourth-year Brazilian guard had 31 20-plus point games this season ... and he had 13 in his first three seasons combined. Barbosa was a key contributor on a 60-plus win team and fit D'Antoni's system perfectly as his endless energy and uncomparable speed allowed the Suns to put it on their opponents for 48 minutes.

2. Manu Ginobili, San Antonio
2006-07 stats: 16.5 PTS, 4.4 REB, 3.5 AST, 1.4 STL, .464 FG
Ginobili is averaging the most points he has for his five-year career while playing the least amount of minutes per game since he was a rookie. The fact that Ginobili was able to push his ego aside after being a full-time starter on the 2004-05 Spurs championship team and strive off the bench speaks to his maturity. Manu's unique blend of slashing and outside shooting make him one of the hardest players to guard in the league and his never-say-die intensity he brings to the defensive end routinely results in drawing a charge, nabbing a steal or making a stop for the Spurs. Across the board his numbers are similar to Barbosa's, but Manu already came into the season with the confidence of winning a ring, so performing off the bench wasn't as much of a psychological challenge for him as it was for a young, un-established pup like Barbosa.

3. Jerry Stakhouse, Dallas
2006-07 stats: 12.0 PTS, 2.2 REB, 2.8 AST, 0.8 STL, .427 FG
Stackhouse averaged 29.8 points per game a few years back and now, in his 12th season, his role is that of a hired gun off the bench. Stack played a career-low 24.2 minutes per game, but increased his efficiency by a notable margin -- his .427 field-goal percentage was the highest he's shot since the '99-00 season in Detroit. Asides from his scoring, Stackhouse provides a veteran toughness (see his hard foul on Shaq in last year's Finals) that the Mavs need to make the next step.

4. Corey Maggette, L.A. Clippers
2006-07 stats: 16.8 PTS, 5.8 REB, 2.8 AST, 0.9 STL, .455 FG
The Clippers began the season with defensive stopper Quentin Ross starting at small forward and Maggette coming off the bench, but that changed as L.A. made a playoff push down the stretch. Nevertheless, Maggette has subbed in 44 times as opposed to his 30 starts so he is eligible for the award and his numbers are impossible to ignore.

5. Antonio McDyess, Detroit
2006-07 stats: 8.1 PTS, 6.1 REB, 0.9 AST, 0.8 STL
As the Pistons made their run toward the No. 1 seed in the East, McDyess came up big on several occasions. First there was the 20 points and 11 rebounds in a win vs. Denver on March 26, followed by 7-for-7 shooting in a five-point win over New Jersey on March 30, and who could forget his 18 points and 13 rebounds in a win over the East's other elite, Cleveland, on April 8. McDyess' season numbers might not be as impressive as the rest of the field, but he came up big when Detroit needed him most.
