Most people who need to buy very cheap bike are too shy to ask. I really don't agree cycling must be expensive. Cheap got cheap play, opulent got opulent play.
Peer pressure is such a big bull crap that I am too lazy to address... Hobby bah, like you play, don't like don't play. Nobody should impose a stereotype on this lovely activity.

It is unfair to pick on those who prefer to ride something nice. At the end of the day, only you can control yourself, haha!

To me it is a hobby indeed. Like you said, you buy what you want, but if you want advice, I’ll give you my 2 cents worth. It may be wrong to you, but right to me.

30+ years ago I also don't know how to weld. 45 years ago I also don't know how to ride bike...

Birdy, bike Friday common variety? Phew… it's like saying buying a TIG welding set is expensive.

Hey, you are the one suggesting that unless I build my own unique bike, everything else wouldn't have been made to suit me! Lol

As you have made it all sound so easy, how about you building one from scratch and sharing with us here? It will be very helpful and would show the rest of us why we are wasting money buying good bikes?

Sure, TIG welding set would be cheaper, but it would be as useful as a bull with tits to the rest of us.

What info does one need on cheap bikes ? rclxub.gif  Prices, brands..........quality is not a question , right?  Servicing their health means you change their components to better ones, maybe some good used units. If everyone do what you do, there won't be any used good units for sale either, right? That also starts with a good frame and usually that's not cheap either. There's a brand called Cobra from Indonesia, priced only at RM320.00. Frame is aluminium and size and design is exactly like the Dahon Speed. I repainted that before. I shodded it with all my best stuffs  and when I ride, it's terrible, totally different feel. Why? I don't know and can't explain either. Most probably the geometry but the design and size is the same  rclxub.gif Maybe it needs to have cheap components too...hahahaaa.
Haha, by installing those good parts, you highlighted the real weakness, the frame! I was given a chinese made folding bike once. Ridden once. You can just about watch the rust forming, heavy as hell, and it makes walking a better option! Waste of the earth's resources.

The reason why I’m on this thread is I still have connections in Msia. I can’t remember when I first started posting, but in any case, how successful this is depends on all of us. We need to be respectful when posting and make informative and interesting posts. Pictures makes it even more enjoyable.
I would also like to encourage newbies to read through old posts and gain information before asking questions like “what bike should I buy, or can you recommend?” It is like how long is a piece of string? Too hard to answer and makes posts too boring. Much better if they can ask about specific bikes, or “how-to” questions.
This thread is not brand specific, so in theory there should be plenty to talk about! So up to all of us!

riding a folding bike give u less headache, less mental torcher. why? coz if u cycling for a long distance and annything happen to ur bike u can jump on a pulic transport.

rb?hahaha laugh.gif i had expirience being left on bigger and faster peloton (yeah, that time i was too slow to catchup with the peloton). and to add up some spice, both of my tyre flat out that time and need to walk around 10km before rescue came. i try to take bus, but the bus driver wont let me in with the bike.

i had cycled from ipoh to tg malim with folding bike in touring speed alone. i started 10am and arrived at tg malim around 5.00pm. its getting late to cycling back to ipoh that time, so i take ets back to ipoh without any problem.

one bike are enough?hahaha.. that is a myth i can say. when u know whats ur need, later u will add more than one bike to fullfill ur needs.

spam one pix lah. saw many discussion only text without any picture.

Moulton are meant for 40kmh.
Seriously, why would anyone expect a foldie to do everything a RB cando (and better) but nobody expect to fold a RB?
*
Not sure who gave you the impression that Moultons are meant for 40kmh. That speed is an effort even for RBs. We all know it, so let's cut the BS. Sure, 40kmh no problems, but in reality how long can you sustain that for? Sure, there'll be some who can do it, but for most?

Moultons are generally heavy and with the smaller wheels, I'd take my RB anytime. I did not enjoy mine, hence sold it.

that part i will never dispute, some folding rider is faster than road rider.
but at equal wattage equal cadence, equal gears, road bike 700c will be faster.
so what i did was taking advantage of this as i am not a powerful rider, road give me easier ride easier effort.
