btfan, vez, and chaos32 reported similar problem.

sounds like cap followed by auto throttle based on the description hmm.gif

did they change from unlimited to a monthly data cap prior to throttling or something?

i'm upgrading from 50 to 100mbps using the rm10 promo. is the router that comes with it any good? also should i expect a replacement for the hypptv device as well? mine hasn't changed since 5mbps o_O;

Thank You for reply.

Hi btfan, vez, chaos32

Did you manage to resolve the issue that speed dropped from 100mbps to lower speed after bit torrent?
I'm facing the similar issue, i'm using Asus AC68U router and frequently BT. If i re-connect to TM then the speed will be back to 105mbps.

I just logged a ticket to TM, they will send Technician over but i wonder what they can do....
also not sure what router their giving either, but i already have an Asus AC68u, is that good enough for 100mbps? hmm.gif or is the unifi router going to be better? any thoughts.

No, the router that comes with the RM10 promo upgrade to 100Mbps, is definitely not as good as your Asus AC68U. You can ask for a HyppTV replacement box, if yours is not working that good anymore. The Asus AC68U is good enough for 100Mbps.

just to share my exp...

i think not... likely not about "t"... something else is not right.

i did some heavy "t" yesterday and today, speed stays the same after that, no problem.

it was via ethernet, not wifi.

did you test download/upload to foreign server e.g. US ? (not malaysia server. no content rolleyes.gif )

100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s

hmm.gif

hardly taboo at all. not asking what linux distro you dl o-o; just asking whats the max speed it top out whether truly 100mbps or not. but whatever you comfortable with kek cool2.gif

but running the tmnut speed test to local server is hardly a good test. need foreign server test, especially US server.

just upgraded to 100mbps.

speedtest local server yes is up to 100 mbps dl/50 mbps ul.

but US and europe server i see is between 30-50 mbps. is sufficient for me for netflix. though what are others on the 100mbps getting for US/europe servers? hmm.gif

didn't test torrent yet, but then again i don't torrent much anyway, but based on the speedtest should be around those speeds.

as for latency local is 3MS thumbup.gif

to US server is the normal 200-250ms o well... still better than those ADSL times 600-1000ms shakehead.gif

games like counter strike, better off playing locally because too latency sensitive. if mmorpg is playable.

I have complaint 3 times to TM on my unifi wifi issue. They have changed the modem and router. The problem still persist. technician last visit said he change the channel to 11 with 20mhz on 2.4Ghz. Disable 5Ghz.

The wifi still on off.  Sometimes internet connected but no internet.
Is this the source of the problem --->TP link AC1200 router.

Any recommendation for better router?

Today I called again the tm helpdesk. ask me on/off modem/router. Refuse to listen to the complaint. Just act like robot. I fxx him and send a complaint email to tm. Really piss

My advise is to read smallnetbuilder for their tips for buying router. Don't overspend because some of the features are just marketing fluff that don't add much value for you

https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/basics/wire...er-2017-edition

https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wi...-t-need-mu-mimo

keep it simple
- wired routing (performance, check benchmark)
- wireless (check the performance benchmark, and only get the necessary features that will actually help. snb advises what kinds of performance you can expect based on your networking setup)
- price, pay for whats within your budget. get the best router for that price
- get a router that supports good firmware. i like RT merlin so i got an asus router that he maintains (which also has other asus goodies like qos, nat acceleration, security features better than other brands). Other good alternatives are routers that use Pfsense (also has good features and security). I only recommend either one of these 2 only.

Ping to same server.
tested downloading 2 linux iso on torrent. i didn't look see peer location for confirmation, but it's good enough for me. I was even using PIA VPN at the same time ^^
user posted image

If i turn off PIA VPN should be faster probably hmm.gif

normal user probably even 5-10mbps broadband is more than enough. Download is way faster than last time where you had to wait like half the day to download.

for netflix they recommend 25mbps for their service smile.gif

Internet Connection Speed Recommendations
Below are the internet download speed recommendations per stream for playing TV shows and movies through Netflix.

0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed

1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed

3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality

5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality

25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD quality

anyway with 100mbps dl and 50mbps ul i can do quite a lot of stuff, especially better backup to cloud or stream remotely using plex for my spanky new QNAP ts-877 bruce.gif

also easier time to do my youtube game streaming

ran more tests.

PIA VPN US WEST

PING:
223 ms

DOWNLOAD
49.6 Mbps

UPLOAD
54.2 Mbps

i thought PIA can hit 80mbps or more? maybe the server i pick not so good perhaps hmm.gif

turned off vpn then test speedtest new york US, i get this.

i also did the same test as you to same server, but using AC68U RT MERLIN firmware

another test i did to here
https://fast.com/en/#

with PIA VPN 80mbps. without 95mbps

QUOTE
What is Fast.com measuring?
Fast.com estimates your current internet download speed. You will generally be able to get this speed from leading internet services, which use globally distributed servers.

Why does Fast.com only report on download speed?
Download speed is most relevant for people who are consuming content on the internet, and we want Fast.com to be a very simple and fast speed test.

Why does Fast.com not report on ping, latency, jitter and other things?
Fast.com is a simple-to-use way for consumers to test what speed their ISP is providing. It is not a network engineer's analysis and diagnostic speed test suite.

How is the download speed calculated?
To calculate the download speed, Fast.com performs a series of downloads from Netflix servers.

I only use private trackers so usually 3-4 seeders is more than sufficient to saturate 100Mbps...
[attachmentid=9489743]

i tested also on private tracker. 1 torrent wasn't enough so i try download 3 torrent, manages to near max out

user posted image

11.3 MB/s

100mbps = 12.5 MB/s

so performance wise yes you can near max out hmm.gif

2.2 gb a few minutes, a 14.3gb around 50minutes. and thats 2 files downloading same time laugh.gif

tested on old utorrent 2.2.1 build 25110

old version so no flags, can't see which countries the peers are.

anyway i don't download much, just curious so ran some test icon_rolleyes.gif

as for the previous comment about service slow down after few week, i'll see how that goes hmm.gif but i'm probably not the best person to test this, since i don't download much, doubt i'll hit any monthly bandwidth caps if they exist.

*results tested without vpn to reduce bottlenecks when running tests.

also tested wireless AC 2.4hz 0.4 meters running wifi analyzer on samsung s3 smartphone says 72mbps bangwall.gif
