for 3 floor networking, it isnt an overkill
*
Yes but a decent router + AP setup would be better for a 3 floor.

actually a router + powerline will do, cheap and gooding, like I setup my house tongue.gif
*
Depends la bro. If your house have three-phase wiring or if the electrical wiring is old or not wired properly, powerline won't be a good option. I'm also staying in a 3 floor but my powerline is unreliable as my house have three-phase wiring. So far, it's still okay but I'm thinking of eventually having an access point on each floor.

Same. Triple story with 3 phase wiring. So what i did is i put Main router 1st floor. Both APs on ground floor and 2nd floor. I pull rj45 to each floor.

Fullspeed all time

Hi guys, wanna ask right.. When we subscribed UniFi we were given the DIR 615 which is quite old now. Considering that WPA2 is cracked now, is there another router available from TM officially? Otherwise would you advise to replace this DIR 615 with a third party router that will have the latest security updates? Thanks!
*
You should have replaced the router regardless of whether WPA2 is cracked or not as your specific router, the DIR-615L, is one of the worst routers out there in terms or vulnerabilities. I would recommend switching to TP-Link or Asus if you have the budget, otherwise get ready to be compromised mega_shok.gif

Wanna ask for new subscribers, we will get a combo modem-router or separately 2 units modem & router?
*
It's two units, modem AND router.

QUOTE(joehann @ Oct 31 2017, 11:35 AM)
Currently my package has been upgraded from 30mb to 50mb. I'm currently using the black rounded router that has set 2 wifi line that is 2.4ghz and 5ghz. My problem is that sometimes it's hard to reach 40m+ when I'm connected to the normal wifi line that is the 2.4ghz one, but strangely it's very easy to reach 51mb on speed test if I'm using the 5ghz line but the thing is, this 5ghz line does not cover a large area and only near the router. Do I need to change the router? Because I don't think there is a problem with my internet line itself. Or is there any solution for the people that has already encounter this problem?
*
You should change your router for better 5GHz coverage, or get a power line, or extender as the very last resort. Plus, I think you are describing the D-Link router which is not really that good security wise with the recent vulnerabilities that has been found, although it has been patched, but you need to do it manually.

Nothing strange about not being able to reach the full speed on 2.4Ghz as it’s usually congested and have interference, and 5GHz is best for less intereference and less congestion. 2.4Ghz usually has higher range than 5GHz, in the expense of throughput, as a result of what I have mentioned. See this link for further explanation if you are interested:
https://www.howtogeek.com/222249/whats-the-...should-you-use/

I would suggest the higher end Asus models.

In dilemma now. Paying rm149 for 10mbps and wanted to upgrade to 30mbps for rm139.
But issue is right not my contract already ended and by upgrading it to 30mbps, I suppose new contract will commence. But next year i'll shift to new house which i have no idea as to whether there is unifi coverage there or not.

Anyone have any advise?
*
You should be able to check the coverage on unifi website or call TM.

Asus RT-AC88U.  You think the problem is the router?
*
Might be. Router could be overheating, causing the temporary reduction in speed.

nope, but as I said in above post
if direct connect to router can achieve full speed, if connect through wi-fi extender then cannot get full speed
so I don't think is relate to the IP address as wi-fi extender is just give me better wi-fi signal with further expand the wi-fi coverage area rclxub.gif
*
The wifi extender typically cut your throughput by half. Did you changing the position of your extender? Try to put it near the router and extend the signal from there. It could help.

but that wifi extender should be able to support 300 mbps hmm.gif
and no, I didn't change the wifi extender position
if I put wifi extender near the router, then it stay more far than my dekstop
anyway will test it after this few days as surfing international website is slow during this few days doh.gif
*
Yes, it should be able to support up to 300mbps but that doesn’t matter. See this old thread for a more detailed explanation: https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/do-...in-half-534670/

If you put it near the router, it is further than your desktop, but you can set the power transmit level to ‘High’ in the extender settings, which will boost the signal further.

why won't work hmm.gif
since pull the cable from router and plug into wifi extender sure give better wifi signal
if not that wifi extender need to get the wifi signal from my router, then expand further hmm.gif

btw what is powerline? I do Google it but still don't get it rclxub.gif
*
Nah bro. The wifi extender can only get the signal from the router wirelessly, and not via cable. That can only work with powerline as I say earlier.

Powerline is like wifi extender, but it uses the power of your house (electrical power). It comes in two pairs. One pair is connected to your router via cable, and the other pair with wireless function will be like a wifi extender, but better. However, if your house is three phase wiring, then it won’t be so good and you better stick with extender. See here for more info:

May I know which brand of Powerline is worth to buy? TP-Link is still the best? Need recommend for it before the installation of Unifi as I plan to put BTU on upstairs and router on downstairs next to my tv. Thanks in advance! ^^
*
TP-Link is a good buy. Just remember that if you want wireless function on your powerline, you need to buy the one with ‘W’ in front of its name. So, for example, WPA4530KIT.

Maybe i will not buy with wifi function, don want my home hv too much radioactive as my wife will delivery soon. If with wifi function, i will work as wifi extender, right? So is it mean will hv 2 wifi ssid?
*
No and yes. You will have 2 WiFi SSID, but it could be set as same channel or different channel. I would recommend the channel be set differently from the router’s channel, so router could be 6 and the powerline channel could be 1 or 11, so as not to interfere with each other. Congrats on your wife delivering soon bro, but the WiFi won’t affect the baby in any way to be honest. It’s not as radioactive as you think it is.

Thank u for ur share link, tried to search for review but cant get it. Im thinking to buy AV1200 which is around RM280. Im thinking whether want to buy Aztech or TP-Link as Aztech always is the first brand in my mind when think of homeplug, jz not sure currently which brand hv better quality and more stable.

Thank u ya! ^^
*
TP-Link is MUCH better than Aztech. I would recommend the WPA4530KIT.

QUOTE(Senpai onegai @ Nov 12 2017, 02:01 PM)
Thanks! Last question, does the power line have to be connected through wall socket or can I use it on a power extension?

It will be Router > Wall socket power line then the other one would be downstairs on a power extension to my pc. Does it have to be wall power socket on both? Hopefully it's not confusing
*
As izputra said, it’s HIGHLY recommended that you plug it in through wall socket. It will have to be wall socket on both ends and you could get a passthrough if you need the extra wall socket as shown by izputra.

You could get the WPA4530KIT. It’s cheaper, and nearly the same as the PA8010KIT, plus it comes with wireless function. See here: http://www.lazada.com.my/tp-link-ac-dual-b...t-18933988.html

*
No. TP-Link is better. I have 5 of their powerline and they are all rock solid.

guys, do u know where to find enable anti-attack option in tplink archer c1200? my connection is keep disconnect.
*
Log into your router, click on the ‘Advanced’ Tab, then, ‘Security’, then ‘Advanced Security’, then you will find three anti-attack options there. You need to disable NAT Boost first, on the NAT Boost tab first to enable all options. I would also recommend ticking the box where it say, ‘Ignore Ping Packet from WAN Port to Router’.

Thanks guys, just went to store and checked out the AV1200, seems like the perfect one for me since I need the powersocket as well, I got it down to 320, will probably pick it up tomorrow or something.

Suggest you get this which is better, as it comes with wireless function and it’s cheaper: http://www.lazada.com.my/tp-link-ac-dual-b...t-18933988.html

QUOTE(rikusakurai @ Nov 12 2017, 05:54 PM)
thank you. sorry to ask again, how to change wifi channel on the router page? sorry i just want to check.
*
Log into your router, go to the ‘Advanced’ Tab, then you will see ‘Wireless 2.4GHz’ and ‘Wireless 5GHz’ on the left side f the screen. Click on either tab and make the necessary changes in ‘Channel’ and ‘Channel Width’. I would suggest Channel 11 for Channel and 20MHz for 2.4GHz, and Channel 149 for Channel and 40MHz for 5GHz. However, it would be best if you can use a WiFi Analyzer to check which channel is less used around your area and go for that. I would recommend Wif Analyzer from farproc if you have Android phone or Acrylic WiFi if you prefer to use PC.

Or you can get this..

https://www.lelong.com.my/tenda-1-port-av10...7-01-Sale-I.htm

Babe currently using this.  Coupled with unused dlink Wi-Fi router as AP
*
Yes, that’s cheaper but it doesn’t come with the wireless function, unless you have a separate AP, which you do and he might not.

QUOTE(Senpai onegai @ Nov 12 2017, 07:13 PM)
Hmm okie, does cable length matter? I have a 10M cat6 cable, but the socket to my pc would probably bo somewhere 1M
*
Nah. It doesn’t matter, 1M should be okay, as the limit for Ethernet would be 100M, so you still have a long way to go lol.
