yup yup its usually pricing that comes into play for unless you are the diligent hardworking person and likes homework and reading x.D then usually the next aspect is essential features and marketing features being last because niche items usually jack up the prices, like the aqualung outlaw which is a travel BCD but quite expensive for its size and features
personally i like being slim and agile so i chose the scubapro litehawk which isnt too deprived for features like pockets.
but if you are lazy, as everyone said cheap is fine as long its a reputable brand because these are life support equipment so there is baseline in the industry from what i observed you cant really go wrong, but best to keep your eyes peels since a certain overzealous tax is gone

Just did my dive in Miri last week. Haven't been diving since I got my licence so I did a refresher course one day before for RM150.
My first dive went quite wrong. After diving for about 5 metres (used the mooring line to help me descent, not sure what happened but i suddenly just got pulled back up right to the surface
despite my efforts kicking hard to descent but nothing worked lol. Not sure if it was the current or me having not enough weights (already had 4 on, previous dive also used 4).
Luckily the boat was nearby and I had no choice but to get back on. While I almost accepted the fact I have to wait for 1 hour before the rest of the crew came back, my DM popped back up and brought me down again. This time adding two more weights to make sure I will definitely sink. Which I did.
However for my subsequent dives, my air ran out much quicker compared to the rest. I was thinking probably it's due to my noob skills but now thinking back, is it because I had too much weight on which wasted a lot of energy? 6 weights is really crazy lol.
could it be you didnt release all the air in your bcd when u descent or u accidentally pump too much air into your bcd when at 5m depth? My first dive went quite wrong. carry too much weight will need more energy to move thus consume more air, that is what i understand
