QUOTE(7up @ Jul 5 2020, 08:08 PM) Just back from Tioman, weather was good. Visibility good Saw pretty much what I wanted to see, hard/soft corals, lots of blacktip sharks, turtles, stingrays, giant clams, morale eel, squid, octopus, jelly fishes, puffer fish, bat fish, etc wah.. which side was that ? I went for 6 dives saw nothing of that sort.First time saw such a huge grouper fish, easily weigh more than 5kg. Had a fright of my life. |

I'm just back from another dive trip at Tioman.
Rainy weather and visibility of some sites not very good. Public holiday so lots of OW & AOW students and many beginners divers. So DC took us mostly to the easy nearby dive sites. |

QUOTE(EvanSoon @ Aug 4 2020, 08:53 AM) Just got back from tioman too. Its crazy. Bluewater ferry had 5 boats going off at 1 timing and it was packed with no distancing. Yeah, Bluewater ferry not practicing social distancing. In June when i took Cataferry, they only allowed alternate seat sitting.I was at Paya and the accommodations was fully booked too. Also did you get any extra charges from Bluewater ? When i went to collect the ticket they asked me to pay extra RM10 per passenger saying it's "management fee". Too bad i was in a hurry, didn't ask for a receipt to make a consumer complaint later. |

QUOTE(thesnugbug @ Aug 11 2020, 12:54 PM) The 2 island DCs are kinda similar quality. Just avoid the budget rooms at Coral cos last I was there the bathroom door couldn't close, only cold cold water and water pressure so low it took me 15 mins just to wash hair omg. Thanks for the feedback.Recently it's been really crowded though, Robin from TIBR says there are more divers than tanks so if I were you I would check how crowded it is first If you want nitrox you have to go from mainland. Yeah it seems everywhere crowded due to no international travel everyone going domestic for holidays. |

QUOTE(GrumpyDiver @ Aug 13 2020, 08:53 AM) Quattro not so good for frog kick and back kick. OK if you only do flutter kick. Thanks for the feedbackI prefer OMS Slipstreams. QUOTE(MX510 @ Aug 13 2020, 08:55 AM) Thanks for the reviewQUOTE(thesnugbug @ Aug 13 2020, 11:47 AM) There are lots of good fins but it boils down to what suits your needs. haha.. thanks for the feedbackI will say that the quattros can be a bit long for packing if you wear a big size. If you like that particular style of fin but want to look at something shorter, there are the Pure and Excel fins also by Mares, or Scubapro Go. There are also the jet/turtle-type fins that are single piece rubber or monoprene... like the OG Scubapro/Beuchat ones which are stiff and heavy rubber, and then you have softer & lighter versions like Hollis F2, OMS slipstream, Xdeep soft, Deep 6, Apeks RK3 just to name a few. They are all good fins... just with different weight and stiffness characteristics depending on whether you have steel legs or taugeh legs xD QUOTE(ericcc @ Aug 15 2020, 06:48 PM) Hang on tight and claw my way out... Isnt scuba fun... Let me know how's the diving... i'll be there next Sat, and leaving for Tenggol the next day.Anyways will be in Dungun this coming Thurs - yahoooo it's been too long out of the water. |

I'm just back from Tenggol, good vis... but nothing interesting at all... we missed the Whale Shark by one day.
Funny thing is we saw more interesting fishes during our snorkeling in front the resort than the dives DM took us looking for whale shark, mobula ray and bump heads but didn't see any. Just not our luck. But snorkeling 3 of us saw 20 bump heads for a short while. QUOTE(raist86 @ Aug 24 2020, 09:26 AM) Side note, anyone interested to dive Mabul in early November? Planning to stay at Seaventure. Dates maybe 30th Oct - 4th Nov. Either that or Langkayan or Pom Pom.. air asia have 3 days sale to Sabah again.. GF lost her job, company closing down in Oct. Maybe take her dive Mabul/Sipadan so not so depressed. QUOTE(steel52 @ Aug 24 2020, 12:57 PM) WTA, should i get a brand new dive computer or second hand dive computer? If budget computer, then go for brand new, since not so expensive.Any other recommendations ? I'm looking for a budget dive computer I'm using Suunto Zoop Novo, bought for RM790, but i heard some people got it even cheaper at RM650 GF using Mares Smart, got during promo for RM700. Not sure if can get even cheaper or not. But if you want got GPS then both don't have. You need spend more $$$ |

QUOTE(Felice821 @ Aug 31 2020, 11:38 PM) Beginner here. Plan to get a BCD, as few times went to dive, the rent BCD size not fit which cause the dive not enjoyable. Did you ask them to change the size to smaller or larger? XS, S, M, LSome of my diver friend recommended Donut, but some don't recommend it with the reason can get neutral buoyancy. Someone recommended MARES MAGELLAN WING BCD. How was it? Which size they give you ? Also the position of the shoulder buckle also plays a part, there is 2 position for it, upper for tighter and lower for looser. |

QUOTE(raist86 @ Sep 8 2020, 10:13 AM) i'm sourcing for a dive comp currently... one hand, i'm thinking of an all in one comp with fitness tracking (i think only garmin has this), while on the other hand, get the cheapest dive comp and have a separate daily watch (am using huawei gt2e now)... I'm using Zoop Novo one of the cheapest DC when on promo, but of course dun have all those function like AI or wireless connectivity.what's advice on this ya? i see most DC need battery replacement vs rechargeable batt. Am currently using mares smart on loan from friend. Its ok but i wish it had wireless data transmission for easier dive logging. QUOTE(shahrul09 @ Sep 8 2020, 11:28 AM) Im Waiting for garmin mk2 release for upgrade, and to have all other fitness app also. They already announce release date already kah ?... The Mk1 looks good, but would wait and see what Mk2 would offer. Now using suunto d5 QUOTE(rara_bella @ Sep 8 2020, 01:58 PM) oo what dc is this? might give it a try later if i go to tioman. now still considering whether to repeat mabul/sipadan or tioman in nov. If go Mabul/Sipadan in Nov i wanna go also..... lol. |

QUOTE(GrumpyDiver @ Sep 19 2020, 08:11 PM) Heard that the fatality at Redang last Saturday was a 27 yr old girl - OW with about 10 dives. Diving in a group of 1 DM and 8 divers of which 4 were newbies. Don’t know anything other than that. Sad news but hope to hear more news on the tragedy and also the other deaths... at least can learn what went wrong and take steps to avoid. |

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Sep 21 2020, 11:23 AM) Unfortunately many scuba accidents like these have a sequence of: On my last dive trip, it was the DM who needed assistance... he ran out of air after navigating through a rock formation, maybe knock something.1) Dive starts ok 2) Diver gets separated from the others 3) ??? 4) Diver drowns It's the "???" that's troublesome because nobody's around to answer what happened at that point. Luckily another diver was nearby to share air. But the rest of us blur case because didn't see what happen, so we waited at the bottom for some time waiting for the DM to come back down. We thought he go up rescue a diver who lose buoyancy control. |

QUOTE(EvanSoon @ Sep 21 2020, 04:07 PM) Diver was a new diver and it was her 1st dive trip. She told her buddy and DM that she was new and can be panicky when descending. the DM and DC still need to be held accountable. Diver already inform, but DM still ignore and didn't pay close attention. Her buddy told her he/she was new too and it would be better if she stick close to the DM. Diver was missing from the initial stage of the dive. Many lessons that can be learned here and always practice or keep in mind what to do in cases of emergencies. You are responsible for your own life. I also once had a panicky buddy, plus in bad visibility, only 3m.... DM totally ignored her and swam ahead. (4 divers, 1 DM) I tried to get DM attention with my torch, but due to bad visibility, maybe DM didn't see. In the end i have to rescue my buddy. For this buddy, it was also her 1st dive trip after taking OW 2 years ago. |
