Learn to differentiate acoustic treatment and soundproofing

To soundproof your room, you need to seal all opening.

Close every hole so sound cant go out or come in

Instead of soundproof whole room...che@per solution is to create DIY soundproof pods for sleep or work....

Need at least 20cm thick fully sealed enclosure with suitable plywood

i use this foam too, but in order for it not to disintegrate into smaller pieces due to whatever reasons, i wrapped it in very nice looking wrapping paper that made it look like art on the wall.

How do I insulate the ceiling? would engaging contractor to put plaster on the ceiling help???
*
yes it will help if you add a plaster ceiling.
and add some material in between the plaster ceiling and actual ceiling will definitely help reduce the sound & vibration.

Plaster ceiling does not change anything acoustic wise.

In western world, I read there's rules that require them to lay some sound proof material on the floor to reduce noise transmission to unit below.

I'm not sure if your plaster ceiling may have included additional sound proof materials, if conventional plaster ceiling, it does not help to reduce noise from above.

i agree, if just plaster ceiling, then effectiveness is very low. if i am not wrong, the concept is to get the sound wave to bounce inside a controlled and confined area and not let it pass through.

hence if you add a plaster ceiling with a little gap, maybe 15cm or more? and add some foam in between (foam seems to trap sound wave the best) this might do the trick. best TS might want to consult with those sound expert in insulation on this.

The sound won't bother to travel through air gap between floor and plaster ceiling. It will vibrate through beam and column and wall to your flooring as well biggrin.gif

TS,
this might interest you. though this is based on floor but i think the same theory is reversible for ceiling. a little gap makes a difference.

The security needs to be fired liao. Security guard not supposed to let any contractor in after certain hour e.g. 5.30pm, or even Sunday. This is very common rules for most apartments and condos.

Actually if security guard really doing their job, the guard can remind the owner this is not allowed. You should try to engage the unit above too.
