Retrenchment in oil and gas industry will happen again if oil price drop continuously.

some company already start retrenchment and paycut. sighh

A few design firms have issued circulars today to their staf. 1 of them will start laying off people beginning end of this month.

One manager resigned a month ago  but later retracted it when this happen.. *sigh

i think this year is still ok for projects and jobs, but if oil price still like now, and demand still low. next year will be hard. this is the heads up from my company.

One thing I noticed is this Norwegian company doing SPS is one of the fastest to VSS their staff..

So, in the future, if you join this Company in Port Klang/KL, make sure ask for more

Let me answer u, PKFZ 200 permanent staff got lay off, I dont know the exact figures for contract workers..but most of contract workers including the expat, their contract has been ended early.

For KL office i heard 100 permanent staff, the contract staff also has been ended early.

What I can say is, COVID 19 and economic crisis, is only an excuse to lay off people for them. As they have no future projects and all the tenders has been awarded to the competitors. SO, they decide to minimize the manpower locally. After this, they will make a hub for certain products only by countries, as malaysia will be the hubs for vertical tie ins and xmts, so other manpower for other products will be minimize enough for tendering pruposes only.

And yes, if u gonna join this company in the future, u may ask for high salary as they usually pay quite handsomely and consider its in PKFZ. They pay all the expat quite huge salary but what I can say, our locals are better in term of work and technical.
