Petronas Carigali surveys market for premium jackup
MALAYSIA: Petronas Carigali has issued a market survey into price and availability of a 121m/400ft-rated jackup for a marginal field development project off Malaysia. The operator has indicated four possible workscopes. Option 1 pertains to a short one-well programme. Option 2 will cover a two to three-year charter. Option 3A is for drilling three appraisal wells with a four to six months break between each well under a standby day rate quoted by the contractor. And the last, Option 3B, will have a similar work scope to Option 3A, except the jackup will be on zero standby rate. The survey closes on 20 November. 14-Nov-2017

Hess looks at other rig options for Malaysia HPHT campaign
MALAYSIA: It is understood Hess is reviewing its rig options related to a HPHT (high-pressure high-temperature) requirement on the North Malay Basin Full Field Development (FFD)'s Phase 1B drilling campaign, off Peninsular Malaysia. Currently, Hess has jackup UMW Naga 8 on contract until May 2018, with a one-year option outstanding. It is understood the operator is looking at extending the rig's charter to cover the HPHT campaign. Hess had issued a market survey for a jackup to undertake the project. It has had plans to charter the rig under a two-year contract, commencing between 1 April and 30 June, 2018. The unit will cover a two part work scope, for three deep wells as Part 1, plus two separate campaigns of four and five wells each in Part 2. Hess's requests included a rig with usable leg below hull of 410 ft (125 m), 3,000 hp drawworks, three cranes, cantilever envelope of 15 by 60 ft (4.6 by 18.3 m), three mud pumps as well as accommodation for 150 people. Water depths in the area range between 60-70 m (196-230 ft). 15-Nov-2017
Petronas Carigali needs jackup for Business of Margin scope
MALAYSIA: Petronas Carigali plans to use the jackup it is seeking through an ongoing market survey for a development concept called Business of Margin (BoM) project offshore Peninsular Malaysia. The BoM concept involves a development via surface or subsea wellhead in water depths of between 35-75 m (115-248 ft) with measured well depth of up to 3,000 m (9,842 ft), and downhole pressure and temperature of 5,000 psi and below 120 degree C, respectively. The rig for the subsea BoM project will be required to drill and complete, and re-entry for plug-and-abandonment (P&A). Rig utilisation will be short, excluding a four to six-month break between wells, with commencement in first quarter 2019.
The surface BoM scope will require the rig to be on standby for four to six months to support extended well testing for each well plus P&A thereafter. This campaign will occupy the rig for up to two years, including the standby period, commencing third quarter 2018. Both projects will involve the drilling and completing of three wells, known as BoM wells, lasting around 45 days each. 15-Nov-2017

Perisai narrows losses in latest quarter
MALAYSIA: Perisai Petroleum Teknologi reports a net loss of MYR 42 million (USD 10 million) for the quarter ending 30 September 2017, an improvement from the MYR 293 million (USD 72 million) net loss for the same period one year ago due to the higher provision for impairment loss then. Its lone drilling unit, jackup Perisai Pacific 101, recorded increased revenue of MYR 4.89 million (USD 1.2 million) to MYR 29 million (USD 7 million) as the rig earned full rate for the quarter - and not the standby rate it was charged for the same period last year after it finished the farm-out contract to Hess. Perisai's total revenue was MYR 38.9 million (USD 8.5 million). 30-Nov-2017

Pexco checks market for Malaysia jackup programme
MALAYSIA: Pexco Energy has issued a market survey into availability of a jackup for a drilling campaign offshore Sarawak. The work scope covers one exploration well tentatively in third quarter 2018 on Block SK 302A, offshore Sarawak. The duration is estimated at around 30 to 45 days. The survey will close on 12 February. Among other things, the operator is looking for a jackup that has a water-depth rating of 450 ft (137 m); a minimum topdrive system of TDS-4, and 2,000 hp drawworks. The rig should also have a minimum accommodation capacity for 100 persons. 06-Feb-2018
Petronas Carigali targets accelerating BoM project to 2018
MALAYSIA: Petronas Carigali is looking to bring forward its Business of Margin (BoM) project offshore Malaysai from 2019 to fourth quarter 2018. The operator has ruled out the subsea wellhead concept and will now just proceed using a surface wellhead. The market survey issued in fourth quarter 2017 had originally considered development using a jackup via both options in water depths of between 35-75 m (115-248 ft) with measured well depth of up to 3,000 m (9,842 ft). Petronas Carigali is looking to drill a minimum of three BoM wells. The exact duration is currently uncertain as it will depend on the well results. In the earlier survey, it was specified that the surface BoM scope will require the rig to be on standby for four to six months to support extended well testing for each well plus P&A thereafter. However, depending on the final well number and schedule, it is possible the campaign may entail no standby period. The operator will probably issue a formal tender within the next few months. 06-Feb-2018
Murphy checks again for deepwater rig off Malaysia
MALAYSIA: Murphy Oil is looking for a deepwater rig for a 2019-2020 exploration and development drilling campaign offshore Sarawak/Sabah. It is understood the operator has received responses to a request for expressions of interest (EOI) that was issued earlier. The duration of the charter is estimated at five months plus two five-monthly options thereafter. Commencement is scheduled for the fourth quarter 2019. In 2017, the operator issued a similar market check for a drilling campaign in water depths between 1,100-1,500 m (3,609-4,921 ft) offshore Sabah/Sarawak. Then, the work scope was for an estimated duration of nine months with commencement between fourth quarter 2018 and first quarter 2019. 06-Feb-2018

Pexco cancels jackup tender
MALAYSIA: Pexco has cancelled its tender for an ultra long-legged jackup to work offshore Sarawak, and the operator's recent rig survey to drill one well is a re-issue of the scope. In the tender, Pexco had originally looked to drill four firm exploration wells plus three optional wells on the four blocks it operates with an 85% interest. The latest survey covers just one exploration well on Block SK 302A offshore Sarawak in Malaysia, to be drilled tentatively in third quarter 2018 over an estimated duration of about 30 to 45 days. 23-Feb-2018

QUOTE(ZZMsia @ Mar 3 2018, 10:27 PM) Some contractors still struggling... Yup, that not suprise. Only companies with good reputation, good connections, good financial that can deliver the projects safely and successfully will survive. Too many companies in Malaysia that supplying same services and products. Too many. Same where I am now, we seen many M&A, assets scrapped or decommissioned and also many gone bankruptcy. Overall, it is good for supply and demand but will be not good for some unfortunate people.

QUOTE(v31190 @ Mar 13 2018, 07:54 PM) Hi Guys, long time lurker of this forum, thanks for all the input and useful info so far. I'd like to ask for some career advice. I am an LWD(Logging while drilling) Field engineer with 5 years of experience in one of the MNCs. I am looking to make the move to an office role (anywhere in O&G or even outside the industry) as I don't see much career progression in my current role. Any advice of where to look or is there anyone on here looking for someone with my skill set? Have been applying on LinkedIn, Jobstreet and Rigzone so far but have not heard back much I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Seeing as the industry is slowly starting to hire again this might be a good time to move and work on my career path. I am also looking to upskill by enrolling in an MBA this year. Bro, with the activities picked up, no chance to move up to DD? Or maybe can try joining operator (with good connection of course).
