There is this running joke about accordions.

A accordion player was driving home from a gig one night . He felt hungry and decided stop by at a McDonald's for a quick bite. Having faith in humanity, he decided not to bring down his accordion and decided to leave it in the car.

After the meal, he walked to his car and to his horror, he found his car window smashed. He rushed to his car for fear that his expensive instrument was nicked in the progress.

Instead, he found a 2nd accordion in the car. laugh.gif

Read it on the internet and heard it during the Tommy Emmanuel gig. biggrin.gif

Alright back to topic. To answer your question... hmm... frankly, I don't know. tongue.gif

i love accordi0n.. and wish i can learn it too..

is it expensivE? i think i saw one in Do Re Mi for about RM3k.

but .. if bought also.. where to learn?

accordian got 2 side to play.. 1 for piano like section.. and another one for bass part.. (i don't know what term they call for this 2 part. )

i love to listen to lots of french music that have accordion in it.

i dont think so, ive come across people playing accordian many times, in fact here in KL, just by the street played by street musician and during my time in uni for student in the performing arts.

i believe for local music such as lagu asli use alot of accordian, its a norm.

because accordion is not featured in those mainstream scene like guitars and keyboards
and accordionist doesnt need that kind of attention. smile.gif

the accordion isn't popular in malaysia because it isn't featured in malaysia's musical history. also, probably because from the looks of this thread, some people dont even know what it is tongue.gif

but if you're into playing the accordion, you should totally go for it. it's unique and rare! smile.gif

To me, in Malaysia, accordion is one of the key instrument in many Malay traditional songs (like zapin example in the previous post). It is just not as popular in commercial pop songs with a popular instruments - guitars, drum, bass, keyboards, piano.

To think of it, accordion is kinda cool because it is one from few hand-held acoustic instrument that could produce accompaniment (bass) and the melody.
