It isn't that big, but apparently, Air New Zealand is very particular when it comes to baggage from what I've heard. Big laptop bags are considered as one piece of hand carry luggage from their site.

Yep, laptop bags count as one piece. How big is your backpack? I've never had a problem with passing mine off as a personal item - it's a average (medium)-sized Reebok bag. As long as it's not stuffed really full, it should be fine.

Btw, if a piece of cabin luggage is over-sized/over-weight they simply won't let it onto the plane. It's for safety reasons, so a mere fine won't solve the problem.

then i guess it should be fine, I guess I should be able to argue my way in, wanted to get a backpack for my partner's lappie, but i guess staying sling is much better as it is much slimmer than a backpack

Thanks by the way.

Qantas from Singapore? Changi is usually quite lenient, if you are transiting from somewhere else (say, Kuching), and assuming you don't start your journey in Singapore, with your hand luggage. I brought in my cabin bag and my laptop bag, no problems.

Prices of computer parts in NZ are a bit higher than Malaysia, and range can be painfully limited (compared to KL's Low Yat) unless you order online. Personally, bring a notebook the 1st time, then when you come back at the end of the year, consider bringing a desktop over (when you don't have to much to carry with you) on the way back.

Yes, I do miss having a desktop.

Try HSBC. I don't know if they have a branch in Christchurch though - very few branches nationwide.

Any bank will do really. Your Dad can still transfer the $$$ over. I recommend National Bank or BNZ since their branches are everywhere, especially on/near campuses. You'll never have a problem looking for one.

Christchurch. Please. At least know where youre going.

As wornbook said, I think the only bank which has both branches in Malaysia and NZ is HSBC. I'd second what wornbook said, that is, to go there, and open a normal NZ back account. I love ASB. And their 7.75% interest. tongue.gif Then have your parents transfer the money to your NZ bank account, be it TT or BankDraft.

ASB stands for? Amanah Saham Bumiputra? Is that a saver account? i bet it sure come with conditions preventing you drawing money and transactions.
