if you have at least an A2 for English in your SPM, you do not need any IELTS or TOEFL to get into NZ's Uni.

I'm going to VUW next Feb, hopefully I can meet some of you LYN forummers here.

(http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/467413)Maybe someone should merge this thread with the other thread? Mods?
I persume you mean the 111/9 bit? I don't think the normal A2 is enough for NZ, through probably enough to get in and use the English preperation class.

Wellington eh? Be prepared for crazy winds there!

I sent my SPM cert there where the 111/9 scores aren't published. That's what the agent told me by the way. tongue.gif

Yeap, I have also heard about the windy weather there, hence I'm preparing to bring quite a lot of winter clothings there.

I'm pursuing a Bachelors of Business Administration there. As for the 1119, I was ignorant too till one of the representatives came down. I went to meet her in through an agency as my uni's University Placement Office's staff wasn't helpful at all.

Haya,
It's still Auckland Uni's winter break now, the other unis started semester 2 on Monday. Unfortunately, no break for me. Been caught up with my research.
PR? The easiest way is to get a job after graduation. Once that's done, fill in an 'expression of interest' form and if you meet the points requirement (which you should if you have a job related to your degree), the govt will invite you to apply for PR. I haven't heard of anyone turned down yet. Govt's been slowly tightening the immigration policy so things might change in the future. Especially with the elections coming up... if there's a change of govt you can bet there'll be a policy change.

Alternatively, find a million NZ dollars from somewhere and apply under the 'Investment' category.  tongue.gif

But seriously, the fastest and easiest way now would be to learn hairdressing, beekeeping, bricklaying or some other trade. NZ's desperately short of skilled tradesmen/women. Those are trades on the critical shortage list. No need to worrying studying hard for a degree. biggrin.gif

plenty of ways i see, so I assume that you're already a PR there?

i am going to university of auckland (grafton campus i think) to complete my medical course. will be joining year 4 students. i will be leaving around january next year. its a twinning program.

i am planning to apply for grafton hall of residence. but the problem is there are little feedbacks from people staying in that hall. any advice from anyone who stayed there would be appreciated. any other options for accommodation will be appreciated as well.

oh btw i am a frequent internet user. my entertainment life mostly depends on p2p and torrents download. sometimes, i find staring at a high download speed as amusing. so, does the ISP block p2p and torrents? how about the price and the speed of internet connection?

you from imu?

I'm not too sure about this but,

just wanna ask, what are the procedures to obtain a student visa? And I heard that with the offer letter, one can actually get a passport made with half the price which is 150 ringgit.

Are these the only procedures that I need to obtain a student visa?
-10,000nzd in your bank account
-medical checkup
-pay your school fees, accommodation and your insurance

should we pay all the fees in full or pre pay it?

I can't remember the price (it's been a while), but getting a NZ student visa is through the NZ high commision. I did mine through the Singaporean one. You need a letter of offer before you can do it. this link might help you get started. Note that you have to go through the Singaporean high comm. The Malaysian one is not authorised to do so.

I'm not sure where the "need-NZ$10,000" rule came from. Maybe things have changed, but as a student I don't think you need that. Immigrants maybe. I never had that much dough and they didn't kick me out.....or refuse me entry.

Medical checkup:YES. Go to a certified doctor who is recognised by the AUS/NZ embassys and consulates. Not any doctor (even if they're registered to practise in M'sia) can do the checkup.

You have to pay at least one semester of your fees in advance. Ditto for insurance, through that should cover you for the length of your visa (aka your course).

No other ways of getting an NZ student visa other than through Spore. I do need to prove that I have at least NZ $10,000 in my bank account in order to be eligible for the visa. One semester of fees and insurance, not accommodation?

QUOTE(d(@@)b @ Aug 11 2007, 11:20 AM)
yes, my friend applied using offer letter to get discount. cost him RM150. student visa just go to the immigration department right? No?

others, i am not sure tho...

thanks for your help. really appreciate it..

btw, i already contacted another senior there. anyway, thanks and i hope i can be like the many IMU fella who made it through despite my laziness.... i don't really care whos top whos not as long as i can pass, thats all ^ ^

i'll be leaving KK through brunei airlines to sydney on 30th december. cheap airflight (415 brunei dollar inclusive tax). go there and see fireworks on the 1st jan, then go backpacking in aus, then flew to auckland on the 22 jan. will catch you guys there haha...
*
how lucky, looks like you're leaving pretty early. Am considering of backpacking in Auckland too, but the reluctance of parting with my family during CNY made me cancel the plan. Oh yea, just asking, does the ISIC card provide extra 10 kgs to every airlines? Cause I heard one might face problem during the transit in Singapore. Am planning to take SQ to Auckland and then a local flight to Wellington.

not every airline. to be sure, contact the airline service or contact msltravel. their office is just in front of pwtc. if you have frens over at wellington, you can ship your stuff there. its cheaper but takes much longer. how much is the flight to wellington? i believe it should be quite cheap since you transit to spore and auckland....

i have relatives in australia and they are free at that particular time, hence my early departure. besides, they said the fireworks in sydney harbour is simply breathtaking.
*
No friends in Wellington, but I do have a few mates in Auckland. Flight from Auckland to Wellington is about NZ$200, but from Malaysia to Auckland would cost about 2.5k per pax including tax, but i think not inclusive of fuel surcharge. Shipping stuffs? I'm not sure about how many things would I bring, but I'm pretty sure that there's no many, prolly somewhere around 25kg should be more than enough. I'm not going under MSL travel I think, should be STA as they do provide cheap flights too, or maybe I might just book online and get an ISIC card done. Have you done your medical checkup and all the necessary Visa procedures? Mind telling me those procedures?
