1. it depends. the huge issue is opening a bank account takes few days to week. i would recommend to bring huge (ard 800 pounds) amount of cash if you have not got a accommodation yet. the reason is, when you are to rent a room, they will need deposit and first month rent. if you have not opened a bank yet, you cant bank in your bank draft and hence have to pay by cash. but if you have accommodation ready, then 300 is enough for some traveling and food until your bank is ready. the reason of buying bank draft is, you save the fee and trouble to TT money into your bank account at later stage. and it is not advisable to carry very huge amount of cash.
2. i prefer HSBC, but for international bank account, it is not free.

1 more question

how much average monthly exspenses for survive in UK? i have survey from net, i cost it about GBP1050. but it too much compare with my saving. In my case :- i have RM65k to show in bank statement, but it not mean we have to bring all that to UK right? (the officer will ask "how much from there u will bring along right?") So if i say i bring RM50k then how to tell how to transfer that RM50k to UK? +/- we bring by cash and travel chq, how about the less?
And RM50k sure not enough for 1 yr in UK, if my monthly average is GBP1050.

Did any body can give an idea for me
