hi
my ceiling for a old terrace house is 8.5feet after completing plasterceiling etc.

should i still go for a ceiling fan or no?
I like ceiling fan as it is more cooling compared to a normal standing fan.

I wouldn't recommend putting a flat plaster ceiling with your ceiling height. It would be better to do plaster ceiling on the side and then put a fan directly to the ceiling in the centre. That would make your house looks more spacious. Just my two cents

Heat stratification is essential to human dwelling comfort. Posts here and here deals with the issue. lord_drake's advice is sound. Noregrets commented here too.

plaster ceiling dont really last long although in some cases aesthetically nice. if die die must have plaster ceiling, you also dont need to whole ceiling plastered. get an interior designer to work out the design!

Maybe you can tell us what is your slap height? minimum drop for plaster ceiling are around 3", will your slap height are less then 9ft? i guess not...

However, if 8.5ft u not install ceiling fan, what you plan to do? on aircond every day when you at home? or just install ceiling fan but remind yourself dont jump with hand raise up under the fan? I guess after sometime, you will already remember, at the fan area, you CANT jump, so everything will be good.

Wouldn't recommend Dyson bladeless fan. A friend of mine bought 2 for his condo living room. Can't really cool the room. Just aesthetically looks good.

On the same item, need some advices as well. I have a 10 ft ceiling in condo, and let's say after plaster ceiling it is around 9 - 9.5 ft (using 6 inch downlights).

1. Any ways to make my ceiling look higher? Planning to do a plain flat plaster ceiling now. or is it more advisable to do plaster ceiling on the sides for the 4 downlights?
2. If I proceed with flat plaster ceiling, will it be okay for me to install the ceiling fan? Will it be too low? Planning to get Panasonic Bayu 5 blades....

Thanks ahead for your comments!!

You can buy the ceiling fan for low ceiling, few brands have it. Not using hook but directly attached to slab or wood piece hidden inside the plaster ceiling.
