Yea, I did. Tastes a bit like nuts, but got a funny aftertaste. don't eat the whole thing at once, eat the limbs first, then the body.

My crickets are special.
They get fresh veggies and fruits to flush out whatever ink or toxic in their bodies 24 hours before anything in my house consumes them. Then they get alfalfa pellets, wheat bran, royal canin and california natural kibbles. Oh, and I washed them before I baked them. This post has been edited by Reanne: May 2 2007, 07:46 PM |

Yes, they are alive, but immobilized via freezing.
Nope, haven't tried baked mealies, but I made them before. |

Maybe you can get someone to have a look at them? But I think RM400 for a pair, should be adults.

Gave Miko a sunflower seed just now, she took it and chewed on it without removing the shell, her face like 'Smells goood.... But how come taste so hard?' Then I peeled one and gave to her, her right paw got the seed with shell, her left paw got the shelled seed, her face said 'Eh? Now got two? Hmm... Which one to eat?' Then she nibbled on the shelled one 'Mmmmm....'
She was so occupied with the shelled seed that I took the one still with the shell from her other paw and peeled it, then gave back to her and she ate both. |

Put it on my bag, when I got out of the car to change seats to the front, I didnt notice it fell to the ground. Drove all the way back to look for it, but nowhere in sight. Haih... Some lucky person musta found it and took it. :/ |

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ May 17 2007, 03:53 PM) Gutloading takes 24 hours.... once you buy crickets, feed them vegies and dried dogfood or catfood. Then after 24 hours, put in freezer for 20 minutes to make them sleep.... LOLReanne told me that if the heat too high, the crickets will catch fire hahahah.... That's why i dare not try yet with my toaster oven loh... later catch fire, then it will be the same thing all over again for me, jump around with a cup of water LOL... Maybe for now you just freeze them in the freezer, and when Iggy wants to eat, just take a few, thaw it a bit then serve heheheh.. Erm, we cannot fry the crickets due to the oil is bad for gliders..... common sense. Won't catch fire la. I said scorch, as in turn black as it gets burnt by the heat. Dry Frying is a no no as we cant really control the heat and will most probably burn the crickets. I'm not sure about deep frying, but then again, we wouldn't want oil into our pets' diets. |

QUOTE(JonYeap @ May 17 2007, 05:57 PM) how do u actually bake it? can give us some hints? coz some of us might wanna try it, but dont want to do stupid thing with the oven especially, cricket rosak nvm, but oven rosak, then gone. QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ May 17 2007, 05:58 PM) Reanne, use a toaster oven can ah? Have to bake at very low temperature, around 90 - 93 degrees celsius for approx one hour.Mine doesn't have temp control tho, only minutes, how? I plan to put them in aluminium foil then bake in the toaster oven (a way to prevent dirtying my oven also la KP Cannot use toaster oven. Toaster ovens and microwave ovens are all set to max heat, cannot change the temp much. So have to use the ones for baking lor. This post has been edited by Reanne: May 17 2007, 06:43 PM |

About the mealworms, what you can do is, when you first bring them back, put in an open tupperware(make sure tall enough so they can't climb out) and feed them some slices of fresh fruits or veggies like carrots, apple etc. Don't feed very wet and crumbly fruits. Slices ya, not cubes.
The mealworms should not pass one inch in depth in the container, so if you've got lotsa mealies, use a bigger container. Once they've finished the fresh stuff, add an inch thick layer of wheatbran. You can get this in any organic store. If they've not finished the fresh stuff after 24 hours, remove any leftovers. I think wheatbran mixed with oatbran gives the best results as it's finer and easier for the mealies to eat as they go. But wheatbran alone is more budget friendly. Once the substrate is almost completely consumed, sift the droppings out(you'll need a sifter) and repeat the procedure again starting with the fruits. Keep doing this and you'll have fit, juicy and healthy mealies. PS: Do not add fresh stuff when there is still a lot of wheatbran/oatbran substrate, the substrate will absorb the juices and rot quickly which is damn smelly. Always sift all the droppings after the substrate is almost gone, THEN add the fresh stuff. |

Wheatbran is cheaper than quaker oats. But can la, as long as not the instant one.

Miko had an adventure last night. She was playing in the dining room, me and Ben were not more than 10 feet away, then she disappeared!
Waah, looked high and low, up curtains and outside the house. Finally thought maybe she found a way to squeeze out through one of the closed windows. Looked for quite a long time, then when I went upstairs, she was at the grill outside the upstairs window! Poking her nose to find a way in through the mesh. She must have gotten out from the dining room window, climbed the roof and tried to come in through the upstair living room window. Opened the mesh and she hopped onto my arm, leaving dirty footprints with her dirty feet on my arm. Goodness, she gave us quite a scare O.o |

Hun's Mix. Estimated nutrition content.
Fiber Vitamin C Vitamin D3 Vitamin A Calcium (Non dairy source) Omega 3 & 6 Protein Beneficial bacteria Beta-Glucan Honey Trace fat Will add more when process the nutritional stuff more intently. Canned Baby food has low nutritional value, barely enough to cover a glider's nutritional needs per day. It's low in fiber, high in sugar and doesn't even have much protein. Most of it is water. Apple is high in phosphorus, which is bad for gliders if fed too much. Phosphorus leeches on calcium, which is what they need. Though containing vitamin C, a diet of only apples or mostly apple is not recommended. Lettuce, especially iceberg lettuce, is not good as it's mostly water content. The few dog foods recommended are Innova Evo, Origen and other corn-free super premium quality soft dog/cat foods. Even so, small amounts only. Not as staple. Will add more in this post later. |

AHHH!!! That food is so long already! Do keep in mind that Innova Evo uses raw chicken, so not advisable to keep for so long after opening.
